Most people now have never seen a nuclear blast, and hopefully never will. 100% disarmament and destruction of all nuclear weapons seems to be impossible. If it could truly be 100% however, it wouldn't be a bad thing, IMO. But could it ever really be TOTAL elimination of the Bomb? Shame we ever let the genie out of the bottle.

@Neonman78 during the cold war, the united states and the USSR didnt go to war because they were both guranteed to be destroyed with a large part of the world as well in any war. there was no winning in that situation. both sides would have just flatened eachother and several other countries with nuclear weapons and there would have been nothing to gain what so ever.
without nuclear weapons, the war would have started because the soviets believed their army was much much stronger.

We will never have no nuclear weapons. It would be a realistic goal to reduce the numbers to only as many as are required to destroy enemy cities. The reason for that is mutual deterrence, and the fact that it would never be rational to attack the enemy if you did not have the means to destroy their counter-attacking forces.
The only possible use for thousands of weapons is to strike first and try to eliminate enemy weapons. It's madness to have thousands of weapons.
