They sound very good here. I've seen this line-up twice recently. Excellent playing from all concerned, but they had a strangely 'boggy' and lumpy sound. High volume - especially in the bass and drum frequencies do great harm to this kind of music for me. I'll continue to support them of course, they were [and are] a great band - tho' from the comfort of my armchair - and with the old albums.
What a truly amazing piece of music from an truly amazing band. They are just jaw dropping and I would love to see them come to Liverpool one day and perfrom. Brilliant stuff.
Andy Latimer is a God on guitar. Anyone here who has not heard him look up the live version of "Ice" by Camel. It is mind blowing. Also, David Gilmour of course is a God on guitar,m and my favorite guitarist of all time.Another very underrated guitarist is Mikael Akerfeldt of Opeth. I love his style and emotion...
Saw them in Ipswich the other week...absolutely fantastic...lost for words.Has certainly rekindled my interest in this very under rated band who sound better today than they did back in the 70s....i once heard that 'nostalgia ' was a cure for boredom...poppycock and yahboo...nostalgia is fantastic and without it life would be meaningless and very sad.
every bit as good as they were in the late 70's, guitarist Neils V'D'S is stunning I didn't expect him to be in the same league as Jan A' and I am full of admiration for the stamina and skill of Pierre V'D'L after all those years he still punches it through! Thys is an amazing talent I have my own Hammond (A100) which I am inspired to play after Focus. Well done boys>
Sounds like late '70s fusion ("Focus con Proby" era), not unlike, say, Steve Morse & Dixie Dregs "Night Becomes Light". I'd like to hear this group play "Round Goes the Gossip" live.
I just saw focus last night and they were awesome. Their new guitarist is better than Ackerman, he is cleaner and faster and his sounds carries wonderfull emotion. Ackerman these days is reduced to crap funk guitar. Sorry but true.
Lovely and with much of that gorgeous texture and harmony of the old Focus...but it still needs someone with the "danger" and tension of an Akkerman: the strat player here is reducing the sound to hamburger music if he's not careful, with the same little trills. Who's the bass player? Looks uncannily like an unaged version of Cyril Havermans without the hair!
It' so weird, where Jan Akkerman, Pierre van der Linden,Bert Ruiter...??

is the guitar Jan Akkerman?
santyrush 2 years ago
No it's not. Only the organ player and drummer are from the 1970's version of the band. The other two are new members.

That's Bobby Jacobs, son of (the late) Ruud Jacobs, a great standup bass player in his time.
