  • For all the people who keep trying to figure out which country has "ownership" of this man or song, just know that Nigeria and Cameroon used to be one country until the British separated us. This song is sung in Nigerian Pidgin but has a Cameroon melody. Embrace it, we are all one. Where Nigerians are, Cameroons are and vice versa. Africa unite!

  • @realhiphopnation25 I'm from Cameroon and this has been a major topic over and over again back home... Truth been told right here, we'all ONE!!! WORD UP

  • after radio Akwaibom news broadcast, my father's(papa) favourite Prince Nico hits the air, a kerosene bush lamp on our center table, in a wooden house, the sounds of crikets and bats eating from fruit trees few meters from the roof , with the moonlight illuminating with its natural light, sweet mother will make sure i take supper, study for a while and go to sleep, she set's up the mosquito net while am deep asleep. RIP PAPA , may God grant mama many more years, i love mami, you too papa.

  • Prince Nico, well done, this is africa's anthem of all time. Every party we had here in england we played this song, it got people up of off their chairs and propping up the walls just frinking and eating to DANCING, until they were sweating.

A beautiful dedication to all sweet mothers. You can tell this man loved his mother and appreciated her, just the listen to the lyrics.

  • This is great, may God bless all the mother out there for the good job they are doing.

Hearing "sweet mother" this afternoon while sitting in my office brought tears to my eyes. The nostalgia that I experience took me to the sinkor old road, Monrovia, Liberia in the year 1976. Prince Nico Mbarga was great, may his soul rest in peace.

Thanks for keeping this great African music alive.

    Best regards,

    Sando McGee

  • viva africa viva cartagena colombia

  • This song rocked our national radio station(Kenya Broadcasting Cooperation) in the early 90s. I used to think Nico was a Kenyan artist

  • @OMAMOJULIUS

Even though he sang in Pidgin?

  • This is great music. The music coming out of Africa nowadays is just trying to imitate US culture and sucks big time. This is original and a classic

  • GOLD

  • Prince Nico was born raised and lived in Ebonyi State Nigeria. His mother is an Igbo Nigerian and his father is of Cameroonian origin. Nico is an Igbo but despite that, this song is still pure magic.

One of the simplest yet most meaningful tune in African music.

  • @Kenx95 OMG, I always thought that he is "totally" cameroonian. Huge blow for my national pride ;-) ;-)

    Great song though.

  • @clauperri then keep on thinking that if it means that much to u. Nigeria and Cameroon used to be together b4 we got separated by the british; so u could tell yourself ur ancestors added to his talented genes. To me all Africans are one, so better yet take pride in anything that comes out of Africa not just ur Country. I'm Nigerian but i'm proud when any Black especially African Nation succeeds

  • Jah Bless..Thanks.. for the memory!!

  • lovely.....

  • Just beautiful. Timeless for sure. Words cannot describe the joy and pride I have everytime I hear this music

I had just graduated from college and arrived home. This song was wafting down to first floor of the house from the second , I rushed upstairs to find my younger siblings partying with some real sweet chicks, pulled one free chick on to the floor and danced all afternoon. This song always compels me to reflect back to those good old days of my youth. GOD BLESS NICO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
