I'm a guy. I started by learning how to quilt. Then came a need for a shirt. A shirt that was not available in a store. I joined the ASG, (American Sewing Guild) The ladies were so nice and helpful. You make true friends and learn something to boot. Wise up guys, give sewing a try. If you can work with metal or wood, you can sew.
Is it gay I want to lean how to make a shirt. I have my own custom shirt business but all I'm good at is art and printing on the shirt, but people want to charge an arm and a leg for quality blank shirts, so I want to learn how to make one myself
No its not gay. What about professional Taylors. That is a profession dominated by men and they know how to sew pants, shirts, etc from scratch. Sewing is a valuable skill and has nothing to do with sexual preference or being soft or whatever you may think people may tease you about.
I myself (a guy) am here for essentially the same reason. I want a particular style, but finding an ideal one is tough, and the closest results are way too expensive. It'll be a big savings and get exactly what I want if I learn to do it myself.
There are plenty of guys around out there that do sewing as a hobby, so there shouldn't be any negative thoughts if you do it as well.
people are idiots, as a general rule. keep that in mind. just because you want to know how to make custom clothing, doesn't make you "gay". all branches of the US armed forces are taught to sew, to be able to repair clothing when needed. i'm looking to be able to tailor my own clothes, and make my own shirts, and i'm a straight guy too.
That is super! Besides, I like to do carpentry and other DIY activities! That doesn't make me a lesbian. Sexual preference has nothing to do with such things, we all need to work on not stereotyping people from what kind of activities they like, which job they have or which hobbies they have! We're all different and have different likes, thank God for that! How boring wouldn't this world have been if all of us were the same...
What on earth should be "gay" about that? I think it is super cool that more and more guys and men start sewing! Actually, my grandmother, who was born in the 1880's, taught all her boys and girls how to sew, knit and embroider (with my GF's two from a previous marriage they had 11 kids!)! Actually, some of my uncle's has been the most active ones doing such crafts! And, none of them are gay and I don't think sewing or such skills should be thought of as "gay". Besides, most tailors are male!
I'm a beginner and I love her already :)
