If Herbie REALLY wanted to P-O that captain before getting dumped into the sea, Herbie could have rolled up all his windows and sealed his sunroof top watertight so when landed in water,He couldve floated &SWIM >;)p What confuses me is whatever happend to those Square VW THING bodies used on islands to be used as deep puddle jumpers? Those Square Body VW are "Rumored" / Alledgedly to be AMPHIBIOUS-every 1960 car design that tried to float on water always Floundered ! Except 1...The Amphi-Car
I remember seeing this when I was little and forgetting my size and age, I felt like strapping the captain himself to the ledge instead of Herbie lol.
I love the Herbie films, but this has always made me sad. The sound of him beeping and spinning his wheels helplessly is sad. +1 Internets, n20neenee.
I agree, it is sad. The sound him beeping and spinning his wheels was like he was saying "I'm sorry for whatever I did, it won't happen again just don't throw me in the sea." (Unfortunately, Captain Blythe, Chief Steward, and all the sea men don't understand him). He's also probably calling help to Jim Douglas (his owner) and all of Herbie's friends who are Mrs. Steinmetz, Tennesse Steinmetz, Willoby Whitfield, Wheely Applegate, Pete Stancheck (Jim Douglas's nephew) D.J., and Paco.
@afriendofbean I agree. He probably had no idea what he did and what he was going through, I imagine that Herbie, having been a humanized Volkswagen bug rather than a normal one, probably has the mind of someone the same age as Paco.
I guess maybe the reason the captain wanted Herbie thrown in the sea because, he destroyed something in the kitchen, or he injured one of the chefs, or he accidentally caused one of the chefs to injure the captain, or maybe the captain doesn't like the fact that Herbie is alive and he escaped where the captain trapped him and he didn't like how he helped Paco escape. Also I agree, maybe Herbie has the same mind as Paco. I know that Tennessee Steinmetz was Herbie's first friend.
@andriakilgore This scene was nothing compared to what I saw in the 1997 movie when Horace the Hate Bug nearly killed him. That made me bawl and want to destroy Horace The Hate Bug.
It is a very sad scene. I always get sad when I see the VWs being trashed in the Herbie movies. You cant humanize an automobile like that and put it to sleep without some remorse
The car has been found I just posted a vid about it!
