they dont play live like most rave/dance acts because its digitaly composed music and most of it isnt played by humans and almost impossible to play without hearing human error which doesnt go well at all with electronic dance music.. they usually just play the slower piano stabs and some samples - the beats, bass and bleeps etc are done by PC .. so when you go to see acts at rave they are just 'pretending' to play along to the music
@paulb100 - you are a schumck. i dont know where or when you have seen njoi, the chemical bothers or lfo live, but the base laydown is all pre-programmed. the difference is when its played live as opposed to this video link which is overdubbed with the studio recorded version. its all relative and not dissimilar to kraftwerk and such.
@jaymchay - exactly - all pre-programmed AND PLAYED BY A COMPUTER... which is what I said wasnt it>? I used to make this music back in 94 on Korg & Roland Synth's and using Bell's and Pipe's Sequencer and know exactly how its done... they play pre-programmed OR pre-recorded stuff - they never play entire tracks live as its impossible, they playback the track and only play stabs or a few slow riffs whilst MIC'ing - im not saying its CRAP im simply saying "thats wot they do"
@paulb100 - dude, your nuts. if the music is written or designed through keyboards and programming then how else do you re-produce this live? it's almost as if your insinuation is like a Britney Spears mime act or such; just jog along, play the record and jazz around to make it a personal fitting.
@jaymchay thats exactly what its like, you havent got a clue mate! - you obviously dont know how its made, produced or played live - you can play or program music into a computer sequencing program which then plays it back through midi - the PC ochestrates it - you take your gear along to gig, load up tracks and click PLAY on software, you disable the track(s) YOU wanna play live over the top of the rest of the tracks - in dance music this usually consists of stabs + samples
@jaymchay ... for e.g. you normally hear odd samples being stabbed over the top - this is him/them "playing live" - the rest of the music is played by the computer from what him/them pre-programmed "produced" earlier - slower tracks with piano might have the piano riff played live if its not too fast or looped for short period only - some groups dont even go to this extent and simply PLAY a recorded track and MIME with keyboards - ive seen LOADS do it!!!
@jaymchay ..most rave/dance music consists of fast repeated riffs - some of which are IMPOSSIBLE to play by hand... some tracks have as many as 16 single sequences playing at once = to re-produce this live you would need 16 musicians each playing the synthesizer the riff was made on - the average dance track consists of about 8-16 different tracks... acid loops, samples, bass lines and some tracks that might sound like ONE are actually MANY.. you can either record yourself playing or program it
@jaymchay ...but the reality is that it IS simply - plug in, play and mime... good groups will play the programmed stuff back and play some stuff by hand over the top (usually one or two members = 1 or 2 tracks) but 95% of it is played by computer - we respect this as we know this is the best they can do and they are delivering - what we DONT respect is those that dress-up, stick 10 dancers and MIC's on stage and playback a record and PRETEND to play anything at all

I was once drinking champange with Mike Champion at Eurodance. He's the prodigy's manager and the brother of one of the Njoi lads. I asked him why they didn't play live. His answer was "fuck knows, they've got the talent".
