What I wonder is if you really really wanted to be crazy and try and cross something with a car, could you get away with going backwards so that the engine compartment isn't exposed first? We don't do floods like that in SC...at least not on my side of the state.
@wyoonthefirst i live in st louis mo. we get floods like that its not the engine compartment ya gotta worry about its the muffler so no driving backwards would get u nowere fast if ths guy let off the gas one time he would of been stuck he did a good job but i woulda went around no tellin the long term effects after this
@jjrrhh11 Even if the engine is idling there is enough pressure to keep water out of the exhaust, hell the exhaust can be filled to the catalytic converter and you'd still be able to restart it.
You have to keep the intake clear, if it can breathe, it can drive.
It's possible that person might be used to flooding, and has their air intake box turned backwards so that it can take on water all day long, so long as it does not stop, the water doesn't trickle in. Or the intake sits high enough on the engine, or is sealed well. Looks like a new vehicle, so yeah.
@Jenabzadeh1 no engine is bulletproof and second i dont care what motor u have, if u suck water in your done for he got lucky bottom line and every car has electrical probs if cars didn't i wouldn't have a job, my bronco is on 40s and with enough water ya my motor will blow everything will with enough water
That truck just defied all logic, and blew my mind. It should have swamped 5 different times in that video, the hood was under water!!! He even sped up! His truck was blessed.
@TheDavfit What the hell were you driving? I drive through that much water (or twice that) in my stock jeep every few weeks when I go offroad or camping. It's like, 13 years old, and perfectly fine
as long as the water does not get into the air intake and you have momentum there should be no problem since you are pushing the water around the front of the vehicle.
I did a similar thing in my diesel citroen zx when i followed a discovery underneath a railway bridge which came over my bonnet and had my headlights flashicg on and off. It came over the rear bumper of the disco and at that point my bottom was REALLY clenched:)
PEOPLE, THAT'S how you are supposed to drive through deep water. You create a bow wave which builds up in front of the car and leaves a trough where the engine is. You could see it as he got closer to the camera.
As long as you maintain the bow wave the engine, electrics and more importantly, the air in take are technically below the level of the water, but actually in fresh air. If you fail to make a bow wave or drive too fast and go through it, then that's when you get a wet spark and suck in water and listen to the bang as a con rod exits the engine block. Of course, knowing the depth of the water is considered to be quite important by some:)
wow some people..That looks like a nissan, and as long as the distributor don't get flooded and it has air it won't stall..That's all engines need to run..air, fuel, spark!! And I highly doubt it was pushing the water away from the engine lol...and yea diesels are better for driving in floods all they need is air n fuel..
That's NOT a Jeep product. I agree with others here that it's a Nissan. What we all want to know (but will NOT know) is is that truck modified at all to ford water like that?
That was TRULY impressive.

Point where you wanna go and floor it. It'll make it through as long as you stay on the gas and the air intake doesn't suck up water.

What happened to the "Turn Around, Don't Drown" adage?
TheMostWantedR1 2 years ago
TheMostWantedR1
1. "Turn Around, Don't Drown" is a Texas thing. No one say that that up north.
2. "Turn Around, Don't Drown" is for flowing / rushing water, not standing water.
3. The truck maybe equipment to run in water.
Old M-series military trucks were designed to do this. In fact it was required training for all drivers with in a combat unit.
