Great old Mod record I remember in (64/65) in Bristol when we use to " Get Around" ....to Brighton (64/66), Margate(66), Bournemouth(65/68), Weston-Super-mare (64/65/66), Torquay(68/69) Discotheque's loved Tamla-Motown and so did the Mods .I cant believe how long ago this all happened, had quite a few " good" punch ups too, had my nose broken in Weymouth...well cant win em all lol. Still managed to pull a bird after i cleaned up, Bless-her she was a lovely kid. Great days 1
The Supremes also recorded this song with the same backing track, with additional strings and horns added later. "I'm Ready for Love" was originally intended for the Supremes, "Love Is Like An Itching In My Heart" for the Vandellas. In the end it was up to Quality Control to select what version to release but, believe me, the Supremes and the Vandellas could, and did, do excellent versions of the same songs. Ditto the Marvelettes, who also did some of the same songs.
In the Top 10 of all time, unbelievably fantastic. Like someone wrote last year: "The sound of the best that life has to offer." Motown rules, and this is up there with 'Heat Wave', 'My Girl' and all the other acknowledged classics. Too beautiful for words really...
I don't think there's any Adantes in this song for I can hear Rosiland and Betty in the background. The A's voices are a different sound. I love this song, so Motown and Martha does a great job on it.
motown is still so underrated IMO. this song really was an exciting sound. like HDH said, they threw everything at a song. the result was pure genius.
Motown had it going on so good, they got a banjo at the beginning and it's even getting down! Hey I would've loved to do some finger popping and hand clapping too. Genius! This was a sleeper amongst my friends. I was always playing it at home and dancing. Sometimes a DJ had enough sense to put it on. This was one of the Best jams. Thank you! :D
when berry, martha and diana eventually pass on the world will have lost three mega talents. i don't even want to think about life withouth them. songs like this will live on as iconic music forever. it's part of your history over there.
A person listening to this for the first time over the radio must of thought this was something from Spector until :26, then it's like, "Oh heck that's Motown!". Thanks for the post, it's been a while.
Released March 23, 1964 on Gordy 7031, just a week ahead of my 10th birthday and the fourth Vandellas side in a row I bought immediately ( I started young). HDH, Martha, and you and me will all die someday, but this kick-ass little gem never will. In the 60s, Berry Gordy carved out a musical Mt. Rushmore in Detroit, and it appears it will last as long as that stone one out in Rapid City SD.
yeah but the Vandellas would have sounded like hell trying to sing the Supremes hits.jus as the Supremes sounded like hell singing the Vandellas..Stop comparing these six different womens voices. Diana couldnt sing Heat Wave but Martha couldnt sing Love is like an itchin in my Heart with the passion of Diane Either! Both were Good. Period. and two different Women.they suppose to sound different..duhhhhhh.
Diana Ross couldn`t sing period. dont compare her with Martha.
