  • Just take me to Portillos in CHi-TOWN for a dog!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • The ingredients here are dead on but there must be emphasis placed on the "Vienna Beef" Hotdog/Franks!!! Or it's close but not a Chicago dog:)

  • Ketchup on a Chicago Dog may be still a good Hotdog but it's no longer a Chicago Style Dog with ketchup added.... What makes it a Chicago Dog is the recipe which doesn't include the red stuff:) Vienna "BEEF" Franks, Steamed Poppy seed bun, Tomato, Dill Pickle slice, Sport peppers, Chicago Style Green Relish, Mustard & Chopped Onions & to add that authentic flavor.... Celery Salt!!!

  • why dose people put ketchup on a hotdogs ketchup are for BURGERS mustard is for HOTDOGS

  • only true vienna beef dogs can be considered chicago dogs....nothing ,,,and i do mean nothing else can or will ever compare....

  • buns need to be steamed and they MUST come from s. rosens....those are the only true chicago buns,...and the dog should be steamed....only.....trust me...i know

  • buns need to be steamed and they MUST coome from s. rosens....those are the only true chicago buns,...and the dog should be steamed....only.....trust me...i know

    LMAO

  • And BTW How May i eat this Hot Dog !!

  • Don't boil? I always boil them and they always taste great. Besides, it cuts down on the salt.

  • germanyyy !

  • one life is NOT this perfect why do they persist in doing everything neatly.

    It loses the human touch.

  • I don't like the poppy seed buns... too messy. But everything else taste great - although I would subsitute jalapenos for hot peppers though.

  • the hotdog has salt, the peppers have salt, the mustard has salt, the pickles have salt. Isn't the celery salt kind of overkill?

  • i say eat at the last one only thing wrong here :)

  • the instructions were so patronizing.

  • @LeroyRifkin That was the most hilarious thing I heard all day

  • I go to Portillo's

  • My gf wears thongs

  • ew since when do we fry the hot dog for the chicago style it has to be either grilled or in my opinion boiled

  • FU bitch , i can use ketchup if i want !

  • Wrong!!!!! no discussion of Vienna beef hot dogs!!!! you never fry a hot dog CHICAGO STYLE!!!!! She forgot the hot dog is ice cold by the time she finishes here salad dog.Chefs should visit a local hot dog stand in chicago...the best dog I ever had was from a street vender hot dog cart called"Ryans red hots "in the Lakeview district!!!!Steamed for 7 minutes, not fried!!!! GO BEARS!!!!

  • @lambofgod661 DIE

  • I'm so glad we're watching videos about Hot Dogs!

  • DA BEARS!

  • wooooow im from chicago and she just fckd that hot dog up

  • Did you hear that kids? This hot dog goes great with BEER! =D

on a serious note: Looks flavor packed and it WILL be messy

  • First time I had these was when Sonic started carrying unique hotdogs..I must say the Chicago and NewYork are my favorites..I was thinking of something..Sauerkraut may go good on the Chicago dogs because it sure goes good on the NewYork version.

  • @Liar805 And I've already had like 50. The celery salt is mmmmm.

  • Dear BoxBoardCard,

You can totally put ketchup on your hotdog if you like. It's just fun to discourage it; what would life be without a few cultural eccentricities here and there? Personally, I feel that ketchup has a very strong flavor, though, and would smother all the other ingredients on the dog. Note that all the ingredients added have either a fresh or a vinegary sweet-salty flavor. It combines really very nicely, and adding ketchup to it would destroy that balance.

  • Dear people of Chicago,

Everyone has different tastes and preferences. A great number of you will never try to experiment with ketchup. You will never truly know if this is the best hot dog you have ever tasted because of something as silly as cultural peer pressure and pride. However, you are more than willing to smother it with 7 or 8 different toppings, and for that, I pity you.

  • @BoxBoardCard I've yet to set foot in Chicago and I can't stand ketchup on my hot dog. But yeah, it's like you said; it's all about personal preferences.

  • lol in britain most of the hotdog sellers are illegaly selling them

  • videojug is for retards

  • You're making me hungry! You won't like me when I'm hungry! >.<;

  • damn..... i got the munchies!

  • Relish fail...

  • I'm fucking hungry. -_-

  • Best hot dogs ever made

  • why no ketchup? IT TASTE GOOD WITH KETCHUP!!!

  • @SoullessTemptation Its just their stupid rule, wth, nonsense!

  • as a chicagoan i must nitpick this video. the hotdog has to be steamed, but it can also be charred in a broiler if you want a char dog. the dog also has to be a natrual casing beef hotdog. the bun has to have poppy seeds and must be steamed also. the mustard goes on first, then the onions and the relish, then two half slices of tomato instead of the wedges seen here, then the sport peppers then celery salt. and you also have to have a huge pile of hand cut fries to go with it.

  • @camaro76 Hell yeah man, Gene and Judes style is best!

  • New York pizza > Chicago pizza

New York hot dogs < Chicago hotdogs

  • I'm not from Chicago, never been to Chicago. But I've been to quite a few restaurants that are Chicago themed. And the Chicago Hot dog is delicious.

I never liked ketchup to begin with, I'm more into barbecue sauce.

  • Great looking hotdogs. I am not going to add ketchup although the kids may, than I don't care if it's officially a Chicago Hot Dog or not long as its still a great one.

  • Comment removed

  • That too many ingredients. The bun is not big to hold that much. Lol. Use tomato paste, & chop the pepper. It's like a pizza, eh? Lol.

  • @UnitedPebbles Learn to speak English!!!

  • @slowthehaledown what?

  • Ketchup was not the original ingredient on the hot dog..rather it was mustard and relish. Tomato sauce & pepper is ok..I guess?? Ketchup have too much Fructose corn syrup..it's make it too sweet...but it does make you wanted to eat more...as you can only taste the sweetness of the ketchup, and smell of the hot dog.

  • "they go well with a cold beer" ....poor A.A. people :( they'r just getting beer shoved right back in their face.

  • We have a favorite dog place out here in Calif. PINKS

  • great dogs

  • @ firedude69

Are you trying to feed me poision?! :()

  • WHAT YOU GUYS KNOW ABOUT THAT TEXAS STEAK ! ;)

  • i'm asian and i like hotdogs sorry i mean i like dogs hot....JK

  • @username1237I do not eat so many dogs I sell Chicago Dogs. There is a synergy to the dog. Like eggs & toast, they go together. Well you just need some education about what you are talking about. I understand the ignorance of democrat punk kids.

  • I like to get two hotdogs; one plain and one with ketchup, onion and relish. There was a place on Grand and Pulaski called Jimmy's Hotdogs and boy, I loved those!

  • @teacupgirrrl3621 Your very clever hotdog creater. Get two and make yourself feel like there is nothing left out that you want. Great thinker!

  • why do you need oil in a non stick pan?

  • Why no Ketchup?

  • i boil my hotdogs all the time, exact same flavor of simmering...

  • @toomuch4u1vidz Maybe to you it is the same BUT to someone with a better taste bud boiling is just plain wrong. You too sir, are a PINHEAD!

  • wow such an extreme amount of ingredients for such a shitty meal.

  • @artifactingreality you never ate it its relly good

  • FAIL ! FAIL! FAIL! this whole video is FAIL!

you MUST use Vienna Beef( no exceptions) a true chicago hotdog is steamed, where is the sports peppers?

where is the neon green relish? noway this is a chicago hotdog. FAIL!

  • Why does it look so fake

  • wtf is american mustard... mustard is mustard

  • Im from Texas and I like my dogs with a Bar S jumbo Hot dog on a bun, frenches mustard down both sides of the dog, topped with freshly grated cheddar cheese, them smothered in wolf brand chili........ Then topped with onions.....

    Talk about YUM!!!!!

  • nooooooooooom. Only two things: my local Chicago doggery uses an entire pickle spear and calls the peppers "sport peppers"--I think that this is a Chicago term.

do not underestimate the importance of the celery salt. it adds an otherwise unattainable piquance.

also, anyone over the age of ten who applies ketchup to a hot dog is in a state of sin. the gods fie upon your ketchup. fie! fie!

also also, I use spicy deli or Dijon mustard, but I'm kinda kinky that way.

  • You must use Vienna Beef hot dogs, absolutely, but the pickled cucumbers, is wrong, it is supposed to be a fresh slice of cucumber, and the dogs are supposed to be steamed, not fried. And why do you need a whole jar of mustard? That woman has been smoking crack I tell you.

  • this video sucks and wat up with the talking robot female lady get a life

  • hmm im gunna try this lol

  • it made me hungry, but in order for the hot dog to be a chicago style hot dog it must have a Vienna beef brand sausage/hot dog it tastes real good with that meat brand

  • Substitute onions for some garlic, and gerkins insterad of relish

  • The best way to eat a dog, hands down....

  • Tried "Ball Park" Angus BEEF dogs???? You will NEVER eat anything else. Also, use "BUBBIES" pickles, relish and kraut for your condiments.

  • woman, im not old enough to drink yet, so don't tell me what beverages it goes good with

  • the way i cook my dogs at home is to put a small amount of water to a pan wait for it to start steaming, then add the dogs, w8 till almost all the water is gone then add a little butter and brown then off, works a treat, never had a chicago hot dog tho as i live in the u.k but fuck me am i gunna have to try this!!

  • this made me hungry i eated paper

  • I don't understand hot dog "purists" who say that ketchup is unsophisticated...YOU ARE EATING A DANG HOT DOG, IT ISN'T EXACTLY HIGH CLASS FOOD TO START WITH!

I personally only like ketchup on fries, but I fail to see how people say that ketchup "masks" a Chicago dog when you guys load it up with all that junk anyway. I've eaten Chicago dogs, you can barely taste the hot dog as it is because there are way too many veggies on it and they use WAY too much mustard. Pickles and peppers ruin it too!

  • @metalfaust19 IF you want to have your hot dog, "Chicago style" than don't use ketchup. It's like putting prunes on a pizza, it's not how the original Chicago style hot dog is made. I have lived here my whole life and I PUT ketchup on my hot dogs, cuz I like it.

No where in the world are you going to get a Chicago tasting hot dog UNLESS You live in Chicago, because it's our water that makes the hot dog taste so good. AND you NEED a Vienna hot dog or forgetaboutit!!

  • @Purrrsuasive1 ...i'd take away the mustard and put on ketchup....yummy!!!

  • No shit! It like they're teaching a bunch of retards. I feel stupid watching this. I love how serious they are about the ingredients and how to place them on the dog in an orderly fashion. lmao

  • There's a place just outside the city limits called Gene and Jude's and if you ask for ketchup they won't serve you. Not to mention you'll have all the regulars laughing at you. It's like the Seinfeld episode with the soup nazi. You only have two items on the menu, and you need to know what you want when you get to the counter. Shouldn't be too hard since there's only two items on the menu. Ask for ketchup and they show you the door. The place is a gold mine. They make a killing. I love it.

  • @ChiTown7721 Gene and Judes make pretty much the best hotdogs in existence

  • Where is the bacon? It needs bacon. But even like that they look so good!

  • "DO not use Ketchup" Thank you thank you. Ketchup should never be put on any hot dog. Ever!! Great recipe.

  • why not? it tastes great, thats all i care

  • is this really the right way?????? i seen it done different in chicago

  • Ohh goodness if u dont know how to make a hotdog ur not a true american... or very smart lol.

  • I boil my hot dogs... comes out great.

    And use ketchup.

    NO ONE CARES!

  • Some high person invented this. lol

  • LOL..Whatcha mean by "High"

  • this video made me laugh

  • Did I miss something? is this the version on how to make a hotdog for retarded people?

  • @ShaxDr87

    yeah, they're Chicago hot dogs

  • I need to see a video on how to eat this big ass hot dog

  • @lilboiblublu lol

  • spitroast

  • I fukking love boiled hot dogs, this lady is on crack. Further emphasized by her use of oil on a non stick pan to heat up a hot dog.....who the hell does that.......

  • that doesnt look appetiziing its so not juicy and enticing its so blah and crappy looking

  • @MollySnatchet

Your problem is that you got a "Chicago" hot dog in Detroit. You need to get one in Chicago where they're done correctly.

  • I gotta give you that. I've never had the Chi version.

"Step 5.....following you guest's first bite, provide napkins for discreet expulsion of this hideous concoction. And remember.....never use ketchup, and never feed all your unexpected leftovers to the dog! Bon Apetit!

  • @cuzpr Dont be stupid... Its a fuckin resturant/hot dog stand, named....CHICAGO HOT DOG, lmao wow the stupidity of some people just amazes me. LOL

  • @CitrusMJ What the fuck are you talking about, you dumb cunt? I was talking to somebody who got a shitty hot dog at Comerica Park in Detroit. Jesus Fucking Christ, somebody needs to put their knee right through your fucking jaw, you fucking retard. LOL

  • This looks delicious! Frankly, the relish looks wonderful what is the recipe for that chunky relish. Yum

  • I agree...never have I seen a Chicago dog cooked in oil.

This person must be from somewhere else. They are traditionally steamed or on the grill (then referred to as a charred or char-dog). Also, the relish doesn't look authentic either. Nice try VideoJug...

Also, you should specify Vienna Beef dog, or another "natural casing" dog. These dogs in the video don't look quite right. I'm looking out onto Ashland Avenue as I type this, so I'm in the Chicago dog's backyard.

  • LA Street dog rules! FTW!

  • f@#k! so hungry :'(

  • Its not ketchup, Mr. hot dog officer my tomatoes just melted from the steam!

  • And for god sakes people... we don't care if you put ketchup on your hot dogs! It's just a matter of personal preference... no one's going to kick your ass, if they see you with a "bloody" dog... Who Cares?!

Trust me, I've worked the lunch shift too many times to know that Chicagoans ask for ketchup! No one was hurt! LOL!

  • Yeah, I put ketchup on my hot dogs too. I like the added sweetness from it.

No one really cared except for people on the internet haha.

  • The whole snobbish view on people that use ketchup is ridiculous. Who cares how others eat their food, apparently some people have too much time on their hands.

  • @CheriS33 ..well there is a restaurant somewhere in ny and they don't even carry ketchup...it's not allowed....can't remember the name of it tho!!!

  • @CheriS33 - Please, do not be a PINHEAD. Ketchup is not part of the synergy.

  • @JunkMan16 Forgive me for using profanity, but you sir are being a PINHEAD. The best way to prepare a hot dog is to boil it in a pot of ketchup for 20 mins. As well, I am concerned for your health. Anyone who gets so worked up over how someone else likes a hot dog prepared probably eats too many hot dogs. Everything in moderation, that's my motto, and don't look a gift horse in the mouth, that's my other motto. Best regards~ Dr. Oz

  • @username1273Eat your ketchup.Just do not call it a Chicago Dog. That is sooooooooooooooo wrong.

  • @JunkMan16 Absolutely not sir. IIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIII oops, sticky key. I never said ketchup was part of the "Chicago recipe". I was just saying you shouldn't call people names over a hot dog. BTW, I made myself a Chicago style hot dog after seeing some of these videos. I even bought celery salt just for that purpose, and it was very tasty. No doubt not as good as yours, being a professional and all, but I liked it.

  • @username1273 I never heard about boiling hot dogs in ketchup. That is something for me to ponder. I don't think I should do that though.

  • @Mercer1628 I don't think you should do that either. That comment was meant as a joke. Now, boiling hot dogs in mustard is the way to go. (also a joke) However, I did hear about a man, who before he was killed by firing squad, confessed to boiling hot dogs in apple sauce. He called it an apple doggy. Can you believe that?

  • Ok, I'm going to make a comment here, because I worked in fast food... whoever heard of cooking the Chicago hotdog in vegetable oil?!

You boil the celery salt in the water, while you're cooking the dog... or you steam it in a steamer... you don't sprinkle the celery salt on top!

Yeah, and we don't call our hotdogs... "sausages". We call them hotdogs, doggies, franks or red hots!

Please! Go to Chicago before making these videos!

  • Well then you should make a vid haha... just kiddin' Hey! I'm trying to find a vid regarding a true Chicago Dog. Every one I go to has people arguing about the ingredients or procedures etc.. If there is one, please point me to a vid that best represents a true Chi-Dog :)

    Seattle Mark

  • Whoever made this video obviously has never been to nor have they eer had a chicago style hot dog

  • A Chicago-style hot dog is a Vienna steamed all-beef hot dog on a poppy seed bun. The hot dog is topped with mustard, onion, sweet pickle relish (usually a dyed neon green variety called "Nuclear Relish"), a dill pickle spear, tomato slices or wedges, pickled sport peppers, and a dash of celery salt; sometimes, but not always, cucumber slices. The complete assembly of a Chicago hotdog is said to be "dragged through the garden" and Ketchup is never used

  • @Lestatvvvvvv In my 31 years in Chicago I've never had celery salt on my hot dog. Only in NYC I've had it on my dog. Everything else you said is correct.

  • they usually sprinkle it on when you ask for everything , I have worked in many different hot dog stands over the years .

Also I have lived in chicago for 41 yrs

  • this is kinda a lame chicago dog. just throwin that out there.

  • This video is FAIL

You steam the dogs...you don't fucking fry them!

    That relish looks like shit.

The peppers are wrong...the whole thing was assembled in the wrong order, too.

...and calling it a "sausage"...it's a fucking hot dog.

  • dude its no a fail its just differently made

  • You can't find poppy seed hotdog buns here in Crapamento aka Sacramento.Have to order them then by the time you get them they have to all be eaten that day..This place sux.

  • oooouuwh boi! xD

  • wish they had it in norway also

  • I wished they have this in Australia

  • no hot dogs in australia ?????? really

  • yup, well there is, but not as good as in the US. they are more into stupid Meat pies with ...I don't know, possum meat I guess

  • There are all kinds of variations (i.e: some people don't like hot peppers or whatever)

BOTTOM LINE: NO ketchup, must have mustard, onions and relish at the very least, and ONLY Chicagoans can do it right. :)

  • why did she say AMERICAN mustard ( racist ) :) tee hee ohh and i also forgot H.A.G.S

  • what kind of peppers

  • Great question (they should have addressed this). The AUTHENTIC ones are called "sport peppers" which, according to my research, are young (not full grown -- about 2 - 2.5 inches) pickled SERRANO peppers (I use Alpino brand). Claussen makes great dill pickles for the dogs (I half them length wise).

hotdogchicagostyle . com/testlab . php is where I get my advice.
