I thought it fit, but this is because I grew up with it. Voices for certain characters can vary, anyway, by country. In Japan, for just about any one to sound more high pitched is quite normal, and in comparison with the U.S., it is just about all we can hear if something is in Japanese--high pitched voices. For us, a lower tone is a lot more normal, and anyway, a shaky voice for a worm is again, rather fitting in my opinion. He's a worm, not a teddy bear, so a baby voice doesn't cut it.
