@WoWAriolis i mean you cant compare FF7, FF8, or FF9, if you got one of em, you just loved it, i played all three and there is no best one, its kinda like the GTA series, FF7 was new at the time, new graphics scheme, materia system, and the story line was just amazing, FF8, they tried the junction system, it was cool, but the characters was most appealing, a bunch of high school/ college students, then you got FF9, the cast was so far fetched, that too many people didnt get it because of that.

i mean who wanted their main character to have a tail? but the story line is one of a kind, it teaches you strength, love, honesty, the new system in this was everyone had a special power, summoners, magic caster, power, skills, then you had the outcast, i mean all three were amazing, if people say that this final fantasy was the best then so be it, but you should have played the other two as well in order to say that truthfully. now i liked 10 as well, the story was good for next gen.

@WoWAriolis FF7 gets a lot of hype because it was the first in the series to hit full 3D. Groundbreaking at the time of its release. 8 took this and ran with it with the Junction system and characters most players could relate to a little better.

Most people bash 9 because it went back to the roots of the series, and everybody was confused because of how far a cry it was from 7 or 8.

@arcticfox04 I don't think the final boss was "out of place". Necron was "existence" itself, that was the main focus of the game, whether you really exist or not, what your true purpose of living is. It just matches, Necron wanting to erase everything by the moment the team realizes that living is what makes memories.

@Snakemind I must say I have to disagree with you. VII was an over-hyped game, People like it because it was their first Final Fantasy. VIII was overall a much better game. IX with it's return to it's roots mopped VII up. Don't get me wrong I love VII but it is highly over rated, one of the things that amkes me dislike it is the character development, and the fact that has way to many sequals/prequals. But that is just my opinion, and I respect your opinion.

@tidetidus Neither really, this song has a double meaning. It's a tearful goodbye to the classic style of the series. Thats why you don't hear the full version till the end credits. This one was for the fans that felt alienated by 6, 7, and 8's technological settings. It's basically saying the kingdoms, crystals, and mages are gone...we're moving foreward..........but we'll always have our memories.

I also think the game itself has a double meaning in a way similar to what you've described. We're increasingly being alienated by technology and affected by rationalization and profit motives (hence Enix games are not as good)...In Zidane's time "you don't need a reason to help someone" but "we all have to say goodbye someday" and now we bid "Farewell, Alexandria" and retain our memories.."Even if you say goodbye, you'll always be in our hearts"
