I wanted to make a Castlevania game similar to Portrait of Ruin, would I need programming skills with this and if so are there tutorials I can look at to learn what I need to know?
Also I could be wrong, but it doesn't seem that Torque 2D works with Windows 7 since it has issues when I try to create a new game. Let me know if I'm doing something wrong by chance.
I've used this program for years now, works well but I despise the collision engine. Also don't enjoy how the games screwed up on Windows XP computers...
u can download it at Garagegames(dot)com, it's not too complez but still involves some script. I just downloaded the demo and am trying to figure it out lol
is anybody that complains about this program have any schooling with it? or are you just buying it or getting pirated copies and trying to make a game with no programming knowledge? It did win an award and if your trained in it properly it works very well.
Check the garagegames page. I think you can download a trial version there. You can find a few examples there too. But each bigger game needs programming knowledge.
Creating a game with other people is really the smart thing to do. Id need somebody good to help me with grafix and sprites, While I can do the programming. Adding the weight and force to grafics isnt hard, but im not the artistic type and im very half-ass about art.
Torque is a buggy pile of crap. And their support is non existent. They give source code so you can fix all the bugs in their shitty code so they don't have to be bothered with supporting it or you..
It shows what you can create in 3 days. Sure - the full game needs more than 3 days. It was a test prototype for our game Larva Mortus - check Larva Mortus, it offers more than this prototype.
how about you stop being an asshole and actually view Mortus, protoypes only take days look at Left 4 dead its protoype took only 1 week for a professional game now consider this is for a sold indie game you have no right to say that
Woah buddy, try Fps Creator x10, it's very fun and easy to make games (in 3D) with great graphics and great missions to create and everything! make like sci-fi-ish or World-War 2-ish or even modernwarefare-ish. There's so many things to do, you'll be very amazed!!!
Wow, you have no concept of game development. Prototyping is a an easy way of getting an idea into a playable form and this looks great for a 3-day prototype.
Hi, it is only a game prototype, so no much playable. You can try Larva Mortus, it is based on similar engine. But you can download the prototype at out blog - google "rakeingrass blog", we published source code of the prototype.
Alright im a pure noob in programming but i have alot of ideas. I can design a bit with photoshop and fireworks but that's it. I do not no c++. Hw fast will i be able to create a decent 2d games with torque game builder and will it be xp and vista compatible?
In case you want a simple game, you can create the game in TGB very fast. You can try a demo - I think they have some, or check tutorials, you can get a basic idea how to create games in TGB
thanks man but apart xna for 360 isn't there any tools allowing amateurs like us to create games for ps3, i know it uses opengl but is their any program like torque for ps3 or somekind?
I think there are a lot of tutorials how to program a simple game step by step and a few basic types of games programmed in the TGB distribution , check the documentation folder.
Even though the documentation is severly lacking, and support from Garage Games could be much better, I gotta hand it to TGB for being a great platform to prototype concepts lightning fast.
Hi Tovypt, i am planning to make a game in TGB. I just want to know if you are experienced with TGB pro, if you are, is there any way i can keep in touch with you, if it is alright? do you have a website?
Awesome game!, I really like TGB, with the polished interface it makes making games easy and with the particle effects it makes making them look awesome even easier. I am gonna get it soon, along with TGE to have 2d mini games in my 3d games, like arcade machines and stuff. Good job on the game ^_^!!!
Know any good tutorials?

lazang1212 8 months ago

And I prefer Unity btw..
dnishimura 11 months ago
@dnishimura If it is true, you must be able to make two or three games in a week. Great :)
tovypt 11 months ago 5

Torque for 2d, Unity for 3d, IMO.
Garagegames' licensing policies get it right.

so Larva Mortus was made entireley with Torque Game Builder? with no programming experience needed?
miketh2005 3 years ago
I think you need always experience for any bigger game. And yes, this game is in TGB, but we use only the core of the engine, not the engine editors.

The CPU in the PS3 is supposedly very complex, so much so that professional developers struggle with it, let alone amateur devs.
bender970 3 years ago
Well i think this isn't a problem for Insomniac. Created 4 games + resistance retribution in 4 years which all came out has masterpiece.

This is actually false. The only devs that CBF developing on the PS3 is valvE.

If you want a specific tutorial you can send a request e-mail to the doc writer at GarageGames. Search for Michael Perry.
Also, there is a documentation feedback thread for TGB where you can request tutorials.
The forums are a great place to get specific help on what you are working on.
@Tovypt - Let me know when you open source the game, I'll help document it and make it an official GG resource =)

what is the difference between torque game engine and game builder?
Furnaps 4 years ago
TGB is 2D engine, TGE is 3D engine. Both uses the same Torque script. You can use 3D models in T2D too, but they are drawn as 2D bitmaps.
