J3FFR3Y, i use play sand in my oscar aquarium. i use QUIKRETE play sand. it works fine for me. i suggest you put the sand in a 5 gallon bucket and add water FROM YOUR AQUARIUM. then let the water sit in the bucket for a few hours and test the ph and hardness for changes. some sand can change the water chemistry. sometimes it can be so little of a change that it wont hurt anything. or it could be bad. BETTER SAFE THAN SORRY
I am not sure about that peticular brand of play sand, but it should be fine. Always make sure to let it settle very well before running your filters though.
Yea, they get along pretty well, the Oscars just started to breed about a couple weeks ago so they get aggressive during that time, but other than that they all get along fine. The catfish is huge, I've already talked to a buddy with a pond for when it gets to large for me to keep. The Albino Oscar is my wifes favorite fish in there too.
The Oscars were I think $6, they are pretty inexpensive. I don't change the sand when I clean the tank, I suck the waste off the top and then stir it so it dosen't compact and trap gasses underneath.
G. Love & The Special Sauce, A buddy of mine turned me on to them, he is from Phillidephia and thats where the band is out of, they have a good sound.
They are about 10 inches now. When I put them in this tank from the 75 they were first in they started growing like crazy, they have started to slow down now, but that is natural, they are putting on girth now.
Hay I have a 60 gallon with sand in it and it looks really shity literaly i dont even feed my fish alot only 2 times a day..and you see shit everyware on myn how do you keep yours so clean ?
It depends on what kind of fish you have and how many. I feed mine once a day, but really it is only about 5 times a week, I skip a day here and there, and when I feed them I only feed them what they need. I sill get waste on the bottom, but it is something you just can't avoid, it is the only downfall of having sand, and that is that the poo is so visable on the bottom. Try cutting your feed to once a day, and as long as your fish arn't babys, skip a day of feeding once a week.
Thanks, i have seen a couple ugly Oscars, I do like mine though. Glad you like the background, I have to hand it to my buddy, he helped me to move the tank forward the couple feet I needed to get back there and paint it, talk about a heavy s.o.b. On another note, I have my planted tank setup and ready and the plants will be here on wednesday, I can't wait to get them planted and get some fish in there. I'll take a short vid of it when I get it setup and let you know.
yep, i went through a lot to get this made, my movie maker program is pissen me off. I had to send the clip out and have it converted to a different type of file, them used a different movie editor, and then uploaded it, so between all that the quality suffered. I am going to try to make the next one better.

btw did you catch the bluegill?
Turppa21 3 years ago
Yes, I caught him in a cast net in a local canal, I used the net because I wanted a small one and didn't want to hurt it by using a hook.
maynardwix 3 years ago
how big are your oscars? did they grow bigger because the tank is big?
