Leave it to California to Ban these things. I think they are cool and would be good for running to the store or to get coffee. Probably much better that jumping in your SUV for small runs around town. This is why California will never be as green as we pretend to be. California has so many laws that will inevitably prevent us from taking the next step towards being green. These are much more afforable than an new car. I see it as a better alternitive than buying a new car to save gas.
While I agree that the government has no business telling you that you cant own one of these... however, for the record, scooters do not fall under any emissions restrictions even similar to those that normal autos do, so while they use a ton less gas, most (I repeat, most) of them are much much worse in terms of air pollution, than even a full-size SUV.
