  • They forgot to render the vomit falling down the building.

  • I lol'd at Ferrari in the middle of an apartment lot.

  • wow que imprecionante !

  • Everyone who can afford to live there in these times will be executed publicly.

  • Does the central tower rotate aswell? I don't get how the plumbing works??

  • When will it open?

  • lollooking for a guy who knows his way around a lady's body

  • and why are you satisfied the arab tech is developing and not the others?

  • It is a great visible development of arab science and tcnology.I am very stiscified and wish all arab countries to go ahead with all fields.

  • english architect mate.

  • fantastick!

  • we must build these kind of bulidings otherwise we could be bored to death.

  • This is pure ego at work. There is nothing real here. There is already kinetic and ddynamic architecture - cars, trains and planes etc.

The only time they zoom in on detail is on the pod attached to a central core - old idea - Archigram 1965. It's great to have moving elements on a building for performance - shading and energy harvesting. This is energy wasting for no reason but the architect? to get published. Great architecture should not have to move. This is just ego moving a mouse.

  • There's a difference between moving in relation to the earth and in relation to yourself.

  • So if a cruise liner rotates in the sea it becomes a building?

  • Ego? This is reality!!!! Moscow and Dubai are building one each!!!

  • wow dynamic archetecture....for some reason though its not my cup of tea.....excuse my spelling........architechture to me is how thinkgs flow or fit together. it should not be about how things move or even about how things ironically copy others work without the given credit...it should also be about your own personal stylings, also have a specified use..well sometimes....its a lot of different things, but mainly imagination and creation, that makes architecture and the world an amazng place.

  • Doctorate degree in architecture a dime a dozen in Italy, the only country in the world that gives dorctorate degree in the world. There was a professor I worked for after college in 1963,had such a degree from Italy. His architecture was average and below! So do not be intiminated by some one with such a title,PLASTERDBASTARD FROM CANADA. You were right, this is a public forum, if you feel Dr.Fisher sounds fishy, by all means speak up. DO NOT BE INTIMINATED! I AM ON YOUR SIDE!--dancewu(dot)net

  • here is the greatest of civil engineering, to build somthin like this,,,,

  • y como carajo se va a entrar al edificio , si esta en movimiento?????

-Seguramente van a ver muchos muertos.. jkaja

  • Sky-bridges connecting multi-towers! web-site;---- dancewu(dot)net

  • ponganse las pilas los arabes no son todos terroristas piensan para 100 anos y mas adelante, y usan los reales en verdaderos proyectos.

  • cool building, but use of over dramatic music ftw? anyone know what music is that?

  • wait a minute I thought this was supposed to be apartments for rich people, not an amusement park ride that has to have the vomit hosed out every half hour. the building cant possibly be wiggling about looking cool and all like that, this is deceptive advertising.

  • i want an apartment in this thing. how much?

  • 13,000 USD/ square foot.

  • no 30000 usd 19000 euros

  • @xaace its already 2011, WHERE IS IT!!

  • You overlooked one small and very important fact that David Fischer is not an engineer by any maeans. He may have had experiences from the past but that does not qualify him as bona fide engineer. The ratio of designing or inventing(creative)anything has always be greater than the actual limit of physical engineering. Please understand that.

  • By the way, this architect has never made a skyscraper before... hardly a "world expert".

I'll give you that he is visionary, but that's it.

  • Let's look at some other facts:

"Architect": someone who creates plans to be used in making something (such as buildings).

"Engineer": someone who is trained or professionally engaged in a branch of engineering. Engineers use technology, mathematics, and scientific knowledge to solve practical problems.

I'm an engineer, and I work in green energy and environmental engineering.

I'm telling you that, unless he has hidden information, as he has this laid out, it will not be self sufficient.

  • we can send single electrons and atoms at light speed in our computer technology at precice moments so u can type your ignorant impossible speech.....50 years ago their were idiots that said that was impossible as well

  • Right, so I'm an idiot because I question the validity of having a tower that turns, because I feel that it may be too power hungry for our current energy crisis?

    Or...

Maybe you just need to read what people say instead of throwing a knee-jerk reaction out. I didn't say this was impossible. It is sound planning. What I fear is that the power requirements for a whole bunch of these buildings will be too severe.

I said that to power this building in the manner proposed is next to impossible.

  • I'm with ogschizo, why can't you just mind your own business if they want a twirling tower then they've got it. If you were to design a building and everyone says it wouldnt work would you give up? I'm sure you would say no cause you know that it would work!

  • Here's the thing about freedom. You are entitled to your freedom and rights, so long as your freedom and rights do not impact upon those of another person. If you treat topics such as the energy crisis too cavalierly, you will end up harming other people. It's the same as if we let everyone with the inclination have an assault rifle.

Also, if you want me to mind my own business, don't post videos on a public forum. I was just commenting on the ludicrous amount of energy that would be needed.

  • p & xaace : I am a registered architect. I asked the question what the temperature inside the concrete cylinder building core will be if a fire similar to the one in 9/11? 1,000 degrees? But my comments were censored as if the building architect could not come up with one! If the floors burned and fell down, what good is the concrete core still standing there?! Now talk about casualties,9/11 had 2,700 perished; how many would you expect to die in the next fire like 9/11 in here?-dancewu(dot)net

  • Actually I already have the answer to my stupid question! Since my comments were usually censored, let me try again! My answer: In order not to repeat the 9/11 tragedy-----DO NOT build single core high-rises any more!---my design is to build sky-bridges connecting multi-towers!---dancewu(dot)net

  • georgewu5, shut up.

  • Is it me, or does this seem like a ridiculous idea? Not only does it have an excruciatingly high failure possibility, but the power required to rotate that many floors of that size is mind boggling.

Welcome to the age of the brownout, spurned on by people who want an apartment that twirls.

  • hello if u didnt know it's SELF POWERED, every seperation of floors has blades that acts like a wind mill but it's horizontal.

welcome to the age of modernism.

  • A self powered building that generates enough power to rotate over 50 levels, weighing roughly 1500 tonnes each(that's generous) simultaneously, using only the wind in horizontal windmills?

The truth is that if the technology existed to power a building of this magnitude independently, we would probably have a significantly smaller power crisis than we do at the moment, because every building would be self powered. Look up "turbine efficiencies" and you'll see what I mean.

    Welcome to reality.

  • it said it could power itself even other multiple buildings, wind is a strong threat to buildings so they're harnessing it into power,

    "

The slender building would be energy self-sufficient as the turbines would produce enough electricity to power the entire building and even feed extra power back into the grid, said the Italian architect at the unveiling of the project in New York."

  • I'm sorry, but the Italian architect is a fool if he thinks that's possible. The amount of rotation you would need to achieve from a horizontal turbine would be immense, and that wind force combined with the rotation of the turbine would threaten the building severely. And what happens when there is no wind?

"Sorry, you can't turn your apartment today."

Don't get me wrong, I applaud this type of thinking, but we have to be realistic and pragmatic when we look into this sort of thing.

  • there's a total of 79 giant blades, with 80 floors to power, theres more to spare than what they need to use, oh and for the record, each floor rotates 360 every hour, it's that slow.

    just for your information.

    GIANT BLADES.

  • All I'm saying is that I'm highly skeptic that this will work as he has it planned. The fatigue on the steel of such a structure as well as the efficiency of the turbines required - with their GIANT BLADES - make this very suspect. How efficiently will the structure spin? What sort of upkeep options are available for the harnessing system that keeps the independent floors together? How do you service the mechanism used to turn each floor?

    How does the mechanism work?

    Those are some questions.

  • God, if you're that curious why don't you ask the designer himself. As i am sure that it can actually self power itself and even if it can, Dubai has got the money and the oil to make it work. Comprende?

  • Yes, but that argument is flawed. If we have the means to do something, it does not necessarily mean that we should.

I have already fired an email to David Fisher asking some questions, though I doubt he will reply.

  • people were skeptic about the horseless carriage, what do we have today? what about personal pc?

  • Yes, but the difference here is that we are not talking about using a new technology. We are talking about creating a new approach to our use of standard technology, and as such, standard rules apply.

Like I said, I'm in favour of self powered buildings, but I am also quite aware of how much of an undertaking it is to make a building completely self sufficient. I will concede that his plan may enable the building to supplement its power, but there's almost no way that it will be independent.

  • What if is this dual powered? Like solar and wind?

  • Yeah, dual power is a possibility, particularly in Dubai. The only problem is one of cost. Solar panelling is expensive, and it would need to cover a large portion of the exterior to garner enough energy as the building rotates into the shade.

Between the two you could do it, or at least close to it.

I think one of the items that may be fuzzy is that I am arguing whether you can fully make a building of this size self sufficient. Others might be just talking about the spinning's independence.

  • that's tremendous amount of stress on the core if it has to hold 79 wind blades and constantly spinning, any idea what size or lubrication they would put in place? Or perhaps even electromagnetic like the magnetic train and its tracks? So there is no parts moving against each other.

  • Yeah, that was what I was initially saying as well. It's got a factor of risk associated with it because of the stress that such contortion would generate on the core of the structure. Not to mention that the structure would be entirely dependent on the core for stability. There is only one load bearing structure here - the hollow cylindrical core which will also undoubtedly carry the stairs and elevator(s). That's a lot of weight for such a structure. Essentially, these are all cantilevers.

  • Dubai is one of the richest country in the world, I think they can do this just for the hell of it.

  • true ^

and plasterbastard, why are u so negative about dubai?

why cant u just trust them since they are one of the most powerful cities in the world.

  • well, we know about arabs not only they are rich and their attitude toward U.S so it's given you can't trust them.

  • I'm not negative about Dubai. It's in a beautiful country that I've travelled to many times, and the people are very friendly. In fact, I enjoy the people all over the Arabian Peninsula.

Did you also read dasteufelhund's post above where he criticizes the design? Do you agree with that? Or are you going to give him a thumbs down - like you've been giving me - for not being a sheep and telling you that this is a shining pinnacle of man's quest to conquer stationary apartments?

  • From the thundering Hollywood music to the megalomaniacal height, capitalism keeps reaching new heights of low...

  • just hope capitalism wont bring us to our knees just like what ancient rome ended up.

Proyecto malo.

  • la cago la wea sknk!!

  • awesome, more traffic : [

  • Minus the flying cars... DUDE WERE IN THE FUTURE!!! Nice

  • is this even possible?

  • it's proposed and yes it is possible

  • cool.. its really use wind generator? rights, its so genius..

  • its crazy they gonna build this in dubai and moscva I think

  • ...wow...looks to be something that can either change us for the better or backlash and crumble...let's see..

  • hopefully not crumble, its a genius design.
