Floyd is able to perform perfection until senior citizenship only DEATH stops them I dont know many artist today I can see doing that lil wayne, justin beiber, lady gaga yeah i just dont see it the music artist make today is dated and will pass Floyd is timeless universal appreciated in any solar system and is FOREVER
Great song, you can feel the heart Gilmour and Wright put into this song, instead of all that computer generated crap around now. The lyrics, guitar, keyboards, singing, its all perfect. RIP Richard Wright
I guess my theory would be he recorded the album version with his red, which has active pickups (think shine on pulse), and he goes from neck to bridge in the last solo all while pretty overdriven, maybe with his old passive black he felt that a calmer cleaner tone would suffice, not to mention it adds a slightly different color to the mood. I duno.
i'm seriously amazed of how good Pink Floyd was, i mean it was full of genius all the time, Barret, Waters, Gilmoure , Wright , Mason , honestly WOW ! o.o
I still remember the day I learned that Richard had died. It was one maybe two days after. Even though Pink Floyd was around far before my time (I'm 24 years old), it devastated me. I can't remember the first time I heard Pink Floyd. They've just always been there. I listened to this song and cried that night. It still brings a tear to my eye. RIP Rick.
i love this track .as as ageing rocker ! i too ...like mr gilmour have mellowed somewhat .and its one of the very few songs that rick is lead vocal on .a sad loss to his family and friends ..its a shame that the kids today listen to such rubbish and think that its music ..this is music .also must give steely dan a push as they were big at about the same time as floyd .almost the American floyd?? just a thought
the all male backing vocals is a definite turn on, the females are smooth and soft by nature. the male backing which is deliberately soft is awesome beyond words. the recording could have been better though
they're all great guys man and each has his own flaws just like everybody else! we shouldn't let ourselves think of them as godly saints although they do deserve such credits too anyway! ;) Roger went rather kind of off-balance due to his over-sensitive nature. let's not forget that he's the one to have lost his father in a stupid war when still a little child! his situation is a lot different from all others in the band. they're all good and god i miss Rick so much! i miss all those good days!
God bless Rich Wright and David Gilmour! These guys have made some great sounds in our time! Rick contributed much to the sound of Floyd and he will be greatly missed. The world is not the same without him.
Roger wrote the lyrics man....they're ewual in my book on contribution, and jsut because Roger palys simple things doesnt mean he cant play hard things...it all has to do with the feeling in the music...
That's because just looking at the composer of most of the (greatest) songs it's written "Roger Waters".
But the magic set of sound and music as a whole with the words arose from the creative efforts of each one of them,..and the result were the unrepeatable masterpieces they signed with a single name...Pink Floyd.
This song shows that even the two "melodic" members of the group are able to let you dream by thrmselves.
Many are just finding Rick had a great solo album "Broken China". I cherished along with my Waters and Floyd. Somehow it was the most underplayed and under rated compilation. Anyone commenting should get it if they don't have it, best buy of the year for you probably.
Had the Division Bell CD since it's release and for some reason never gave this tune much thought or consideration... until a few days ago. Now I can't stop listening to it. ;) Thank you Richard, God bless your soul.
It's hard to believe that there are only 4 Floyd's left, and two of the main ones who influenced me to play music are gone, at least Rick toured one last time with Dave, too bad there was no Floyd reunion tour.
Over all the years they made music together it seems that Richard always brought the music back together after some rather cacophonous interludes. He was the glue that cemented the song together, and I am so pleased that Roger acknowledged his vital contributions before it was too late.
And, thank you David for including Rick in almost every performance you did - he was truely like no other, and we all miss him terribly.
Thank you Richard for your trademark sound. As usual, we didn't realize how important and talented you were until you were gone. The Music Lives Forever. Rest in peace.
The statement from David is truly haunting (wikipedia; section on 'deaths'). Water's remark seems somewhat detached. David is clearly a sensitive and self-effacing man. I hope that Pink Floyd/the remaining members continue to perform until they have all passed away...RIP Rick Wright.
This song, i incredible, how can you even think of something like this. This song makes me forget about everything that is bad. for all of you who havnt smoked marijuana, this is how it feels when you listen to floyd. However, this song with marijuan is inconceivable
It's the best song from Pink Floyd ever made, but never got the attention like Shine on you crazy diamond did. Just released one time on the Division Bell album. Everytime when i hear this so, i flow away to another dimension. Its unbelieveble! The album version i like the most because at live preformenaces the voice is not that good. The perfect mix would be, a live preformance with the voice of the album.
It touchs me so much when I hear or see Rick singing with his voise getting husky. I hardly can believe that he cal loose his magificent voice. I don't even hear when began to sing along with him...
2 of the three pink floyd is musicaly better of without the former 4th member barking on an screaming like a banshee oh my dad oh anzio oh human empathic responsiveness blah blah miss mason more than that tosser waters he would'nt have added anything to this great moody tune but psycho babble and out of key atempt at singing and shit bass playing
i think u r the shit trying to comment on someone without whom pink floyd wouldnt have achieved anything. no doubt of this classic genius creative song but with waters it would have been even great. n stop comminting on his brilliant lyrics and phenomenal bass .
Thats my point they don't need him. They still sound like the floyd with or without roger what greatness would he have added to this song? A few hyena like cackles, some head jerks as if he's being electrocuted every time he plucks his bass? what could he do to make it greater,er,er.
sorry mate but the vocals are the same on the album apart from davey boys fill ins which are done by fantastic women, brilliant tune, if ur in2 floyd check out careful with that axe eugene live at pompeii! i dare ya
My favourite post-Waters Pink Floyd track given full respect on the Gilmour tour of 2006 and, in fairness, it was worth the resurrection. An under-rated gem.
I have an appreciation for nearly everything they have done and just when you thought they had done everything, they released brilliant pieces of music like this. This song is awesome. Rick Wright came up with a gem with this one.
My fav post-Waters Pink Floyd track, beautifully delivered here. Was in Florence this day last year(2/8/06) to see a wonderful gig from DG and band of which this track was a stand-out performance.
