  • "They have perfected the technique of pre-emptive surrender"...Classic line. Great sense of humor Dr Sowell.

  • "They've perfected the technique of preemptive surrender."

    lol.. what a line!

  • 1 Doesn't it cost as much to get elected for the first time--isn't cost precisely the barrier to new entrants?

2 Shouldn't the evils of re-election and incumbency be balanced against the realities of getting much done within, say, 4yrs--won't that give us Legislators who are able to do only one or two things which can be done during the short-term during their respective limited-to-one terms?

    . . .

  • ... (While it can be argued that the making of laws does not need 4yrs for each law, the same cannot be said for positions in the Executive Branch, where *implementation* and follow-up may require more time to make it work and make its benefits *sustainable*. Also, in countries where there are term limits, elected Leaders get around it by trading places with family members--wife takes over from husband after his term, husband takes over after wife's term; even parent-and-child switching happens)

  • Voice of reason for today.

  • @treijackson The very definition of "reason" has changed.

It used to refer to rationality. But an increasing number of us these days only want *affirmation*--a "reason" to be able to say that what they *insist on in defiance of reality" can be "convincing". And just as many people believe the Snake Oil Salesman.
