We are just tearing off a roof that we just installed in January. The shingles were defective and if we didnt follw the requirements we would be responsible for the entire amount of replacement. So word to the wise dont do shit if you dont know what yer doin yo!

All you have to do is look at the packaging and it spells out exactly how the manufacturer is requiring the shingles to be installed. If you do not do it how the manuf. requires it to be done YOU will be responsible for any damges that are the result.

A) The worker isn't supposed to drag the hose on the new work. It should be hanging from the ridge so that it doesn't damage the shingles.

B) The worker is not supposed to place the nail 3" from the edge. It should be as closes as possible to the edge of the shingle (not more than an inch away).

C) The last shingle installed, the worker nailed the overlapping shingle "above" the shingle underneath it.

D) Shoemakers.

Also depending on your state you should be installing a peel&stick to the Eave edge to prevent ingress of water. No starter shingle was observed on this job either which is required by minimum standard. Another thing is why would you install the cheapest shingle on the market that may last 15 yrs, why not go with a good fiberglass core laminate shingle atleast get 25 to 30 yrs out of it. Maybe if you educated the home owner properly they would have spent more cash on the better product.

Roofingvideo, you're video is incorrect and you should rename it how to mess up a roof. your nailing pattern is wrong and you are stepping the shingles. The nailing pattern is supposed to be 1/4" above the keyway that way the nails penitrate both the shigle being nailed aswell as the underneath shingle. also Stepping is not to manufactures spec you should be starting on the gable/rake edge. 3 tab shingle are supposed to be installed with a starter row the 1 full followed by a 2/3 and then a 1/3

yes, he's slow. puts the gun down every shingle? out here in cal we put it down for break and lunch. for the guy who says "only three nails"...the fourth one goes in when the next shingle over goes on so he can get the lower in with eht last nail...but you knew that.

Right shingling technique, as stepping 3 in ones screw up your keylines. Too bad he should be using a low slope roofing with a membrane underlayment. Not 3 in ones on felt paper.
