Yes, it is true the golden age of islam was a massive contribution to math, science, medicine, and so much. While Europe was in the dark ages, Islamic nations prospered. The point is though, what Islamic nations are going through now, is their dark ages. Islamic nations need to understand that math, science, reading and writing are not evil. They may cause you to think more, and may cause people to become inquisitive about life, but there is nothing wrong with that.

The ancient Greeks invented philosophy and astronomy goes back even further to the Babylonians, literature goes back to Sumeria and the ancient Indus, medicine is again an ancient Greek art- that's where we get the Hippocratic oath, universities existed in ancient India (muslims destroyed them, see Nanda university).

There never REALLY was a dark age in Europe, as a LOT of inventions and progress were being made, more than anywhere else in the world. A couple of inventions in Arabic countries, and a couple in China doesn't really compete with the enormous amount of inventions in Europe.
