  • P-51 is the best. Hellcat didnt make the list...

  • The P51, and japans zero were fast, but not very durable for hit resistance. Did not take a lot to knock them down. The P-40 Warhawk was a flop along with other early American aircraft. Not very much thought at all posting this video. What about the #1 Aircraft of that time..... The F4U Corsair? And then from there. #2. P-38 Lightning. #3. Spitfire. #4 P-51 Mustang. #5 FW190. #6 Hawker Hurricane. #7 Zero. After this, about everything else were equal with some minor variations.

  • the TAH-152 never saw combat as a production fighter, why is it even on this list.

  • @angryace13 Yes, it saw combat.... It was introduced in the ends of the 1944..... The latest kill of the war, was one german in a Ta-152, against a Yak-9....

    never really saw combat as a production fighter, only aroud 40 where possibly produced and there where so many issues with them, engine performance issues, ECT, that only some "pre production models." or concepts really saw action, and they only claimed about 3 areal victories in there services, and they where not invincible, as four of them where shot down buy other fighters including spitfires, only two remained operational at the end of the war.

    this tells you that what that only a handful of them saw combat, lots of them where destroyed just beacuse they malfunctioned. how does this stack up too the P-51 Mustang with almost 5,000 enemy aircraft destroyed, or the spitfire? or the BF-109 with over 30,000 aircraft produced! it may perform great at high altitudes but what about lower altitudes where all the other fighters and bombers will be! its maximum speed was accomplished at over 40,000ft!

  • The P38 had a much faster rate of climb than the Ta-152, and a higher ceiling than any of the other planes in your list. The goal is to attack from above and behind the enemy, I think the P38 should be rated higher. The P38 has 50% faster climb rate then either the Ta152 or the P51. It may not have been an acrobatic plane, but it was a better fighter.

  • I think there is one problem with all these "top10's". There are only 10 spots. That is like 30 spots to little to make room for all those planes who where actualy good at various times of the war.

    All 43 (fourty three) of them, introduced in april -45, managed between them seven victories and four combat losses.

    The P 40 at #10, but no hurricane, mosquito, YAK 9, ME 262, LAL 7? No Italian planes like MC 205? The spitfire at #9 (which model is that?) and the ME 109 at #5 (again, which model?) The jug (P47) at #7, but no Typhoon?

    Your list is simply what planes you think are the coolest. Fair enough, but name it: "My coolest WW2 fighters" instead.

  • Th Mk 9 Spit was a happy accident. It was meant to be a stop gap in order to get a plane in the air that could take on the FW190 and ended up being the most produced of any of it's variants.

  • another plane you might like to think about (if you not already have done) is the Yak 3. A superb fighter that could turn inside the 109 AND 190 and a plane Luftwaffe pilots were advised to avoid.

  • Very subjective and dependent on year, variant and what you want it to do. You included the FW190 in both long nose and short nose versions (variants, however way you wish to designate them). The Me262 was vulnerable at take off and landing but in dogfights no other plane could get close to shooting one down but you would never want to be in it's gunsights! If my life depended on it (although I am a Brit.) I would choose a P51 - but that is just my oppinion.

    I like the P-51 too... but i prefer 190's, but this is my opinion...

    Also I forgot a lot of good planes...And I think that your opinion is great, because the P-51 is a great plane...

  • It might not have the speed or the altitude; but I saw a Lockheed PV1 Ventura that had 8 x 50 cal machine guns, about 2 or 3 x cannon (not sure of calibers) in the nose, and 2 racks of 8 3" rockets underwing. That's one hell of a lot of armament.

  • the Me-262 wasa great plane.. and the first jet fighter... but remember that it have a lot of problems is their engines..... but was better than the p-51...

  • It's seems you forgot all the very good italian planes like Macci MC202, MC205 (for many people the best plane of WWII), the Fiat G55 and G56.

  • nice idea, but the datas werent the best of some airplanes, i know the top speed of the spit (in war) was 710km/h and the bf 109 k had a top speed of 728km/h, the ki-84 was also much faster

    i guess you mean the top 10 of the props, and i agree with the number 1, but what about the do 335, yak 3, la 7and g 55 "centauro"? check them out, great airplanes :-)

  • thanks but,the top speed of the supermarien spittfire was 605-630 km/h(but remember the spittfire have got a great performance) and the top speed of the bf-109 k was 620-680 with mw50 at hight altitude. and i think my top ten isn't the best but it's a simple idea. thanks a lot for your coment and the do 335 was a great plane but do you know the size of it? it was huge and maybe an easy target and the lavochkin 7 is a great plane(armament,speed and altitude) but i forget it xDxD :) thanks

  • the Bf 109 K-4 was 608km/h fast at see level and 727 km/h in 19.685 feet (with MW50, the new lighter prop and C3 fuel) and the Spitfire Mk XIVe was 707km/h fast in 25.000 feet, i also have more resources if you want :)

    and i remember a story from a testpilot, which tested the do 335 and he was attacked by some tempest, but they couldnt get him (do 335 was even faster than the ta 152), but sadly i cant proof it :(

    beacuse i didn't know the top speed of the spittfre was 707km/h is very fast for the spit, thanks for the info. and i didn't knew the top speed of the bf-109k at 19.685 it was very fast! :)

  • yes but its always the same, the engines were better, but heavier, so speed goes up, but maneuverability decreases

    of course the datas are different, i read often a top speed of 710km/h for the k-4, but i read some good exlanations for the top speed of 728km/h :-)
