  • this was my first racing video game!!!

  • @luedriver Same here!

  • Sega Master System col wood b good

  • Blue grass ?

  • great game!! used to play this game as a kid. one of many sega master system games I owned...

  • Its Fuji Circuit!!! I think

  • shit, nostalgia hits when i realize i wasted many hours making custom tracks

  • NOSTALGIA

  • nintendo made a copy of this called f1 race which was released only in japan and I enjoyed it

  • There's something just, I dunno, charming about Master System/NES-type graphics & sound. Even in some of the more violent games, oddly enough.

  • Also known as The Circuit in some places.

  • Track creation tool!?

    SMS > NES

  • @Commentator9000 Such a great idea, I wish they did this for SNES' F1 ROC

  • this is just such a magnificent video game. i'd personally have purchased it however , im as a result seriously happy i acquired it without charge as a result of mw2forfreeWinfo (replace W with . ) so i can use my cash on the right mouse.

  • whos using the most recent map pack? uh i can't believe how really good it really is! it's much too overpriced however thus i just downloaded it off mw2forfreeZinfo (replace Z with . ) the other day. i'm going to make use of the money i ended up saving to get a brand-new mouse

  • loved this, played when i was a kid and now a massive f1 fan

  • The Full Course List (by rough guesses 1. Mount Fuji (Japan) 2. Zandvoort (Holland) 3. Le Castellet/Paul Ricard (France) 4. Mosport Park (Canada) 5. Kyalami (South Africa 6. Osterreichring/A-1 Ring (Austria) 7. Watkins Glen (USA) 8. Jacarepagua (Brazil) 9. Anderstorp (Sweden) 10. Long Beach (USA) 11. Brands Hatch Grand Prix (Great Britain) 12. Monte-Carlo (Monaco)
  • Holy crap, I loved playing this game! The best thing in this game was the track creator.

  • you could also buy parts for your car if you earned enough points...i think you could improve your tyres, acceleration and engine.

  • Wow, well I've had this game for years now and never played it or appreciated it. But the classic game room has a charming way of making me want to give certain games another look.

  • i had that game. that brings back memories, good memories.

  • lol wish i still had my mega drive and power base convertor

  • Please

  • you always show off with your almithy power base converter ;(

well, maybe its just my jealousness cuz i cant find any...

  • qoSlIj DatIvjaj?

    Heghlu'meH QaQ jajvam?

    nuqDaq 'oH puchpa''e'?

  • vey similar to F1 race for the game boy

  • The sound it makes when you pass cars totally makes up for not having any soundtrack.

  • funny almost all my racing game i turn off the music :P

  • This game might look better than Pitstop 2, but pitstop 2 had more realism like fuel consumtion and tire wear.

  • Please, shoot the zombies.

  • Your Points 0

    Now Points 10

    Total Points 10

    hahaha awesome!

  • You should have played this a little more, when you get a higher score you get money to upgrade your car, and that is actually is cooler than the track design thing (which is cool anyway) its a great game I have to agree, there are great games in the Master System that are cool enough to get a Master System, I know its not your style but you should get the Mickey Mouse one, I remember the graphics really impressed me back in the day, very colorful in Master System style.

  • i love playing this on my emulator with surround sound and a 1600 x 900 resolution(weird resolution, i know)

  • Did anyone notice that the first track he raced on in this review had the same layout as the "High Speed Ring" from the Gran Turismo series?

  • Game was good.

    WAS

  • gooooood game:) old time

  • I've never owned or played a Master System, but from what I see Master System seems graphically superior to NES,is that correct?

  • I have been playing alot of SMS on Wii VC, and roms. I'm a huge Nintendo fan, but i agree. It's just nintendo had a lock on certain companies so they wouldn't produce games for other companies, if i'm correct

  • Yes and the Saturn was graphically superior to the Playstation, twice the better system twice the loser.

  • This looks pretty cool. For any one in Australia you can pick up Master System games for around $5 at Game Traiders.

  • Please keep this up! All the gave reviews is great

  • wtf? this game is funny.

  • How is it funny,it's a racing game?

  • That first course map looks VERY familiar.....Did someone at Sony play this game before making Gran Turismo?

  • Thats because that is a real life race track.

  • Have you ever heard about Interlagos?

  • @Jed49er Corse 1 is Fuji Speedway, 3 is Paul Ricard, 4 is Mosport, 6 is Österreichring, 7 is Watkins Glen, 10 is Long Beach, 11 is Brands Hatch, 12 is Monaco.

  • @Jed49er yeah a lot of tracks seem to pass from game to game

  • @Jed49er They're both based off of Fuji Speedway... just like Pole Position

  • @Jed49er Someone at sony must hhave been to Fuji Raceway, because thats is what the track is.

  • @Jed49er That's the Fuji speedway... a damn race from real life... didn't expect that huh...

  • Yeah, This is Fuji Speedway in his classical layout! The same that was used by F1 in 1976 and 1977.

  • I reccomend F1 Ferrari Challenge on NES.

  • heh heh, adamantium...

  • This game reminded me of Pole Position. What a classic game. Great review man!

  • This game does not let you cut anyone in half lol

  • The first thing I thought when I started the video was pole position. But its a little prettier.

  • Especially when you explode!

  • BOOM! LOL!

  • This game does look funner then Pole Position.

  • SEGA=arcade masters they were meant to make arcade games, not consoles.

  • Nice review :) Doing a great job.. Wondering if you'd do some N64 reviews... Since you the man!!

  • omg this looks a lot like sonic drift on game gear

    only with sonic...

  • looks like pole position

  • Oh Jee, I had this game! it was my second SMS cart, right after, ummm...... I guess Vigilante... =D

  • you and Yahtzee who does "zero punctuation" at the escapist site are total opposites he hates nearly all games and finds fault with them all you like nearly all games heh ... weird

  • Yeah i found that too huh. He didn't even really note anything bad about FUEL... and I know if Yahtzee does it the game will recieve flaming to no end

  • yathzee flames every game to no end.

  • OMG I was playing this game a few days ago. lol & you make a vid for it

  • Dude, you're doing this for a living?!

  • yea he does ;D doing it for inecom company ! i wana work with this to !!! he gets all the new ps3/360 games free !!!!!!

  • Ummm...Mark pretty much IS inecom...in its entirety. The Classic Game Room story is actually really interesting. The Mark and Dave interviews tell a good part of the story. The DVD tells the rest...and I don't think Mark gets ANY of this stuff 'for free'.

  • Looks like a decent game, but the sound is horrible. If the engines had to sound like that they should have replaced them with music instead.

  • wow i remember playing this game years ago

  • It´s made of adamantium

  • the track editor looks good but id prefer exctitebike its more my style of old racing games

  • u mean the NES Rad Racer? that would be awesome!

  • Yeagh in with the please in the games Kudasai!

    MVHH

  • Bioshock was polite, "Would you kindly?" =)

  • Alas, the arcade racer is a dying breed :(

  • sad but true, and they are really enjoyable

  • to right bro.

  • Comment removed

  • Rock on Mark this game looks awesome.

  • Do you have Sonic for the SMS? I would love to see a side by side comparison of Sonic 1 on the SMS and Super Mario Bros. on the NES. The SMS would totally kick the NES's ass.

This would be my request if you have it.

  • FORZA's make up for a lack lack of a tack editor in the form of the awesome car customization. especially since Forza 3 is coming out.=D

  • The track editor is a nice feature. I would have liked to see one in Rad Racer, that's for sure.

  • a lot of those maps look like guns, except at 0:26 that one looks like a grenade

  • one looked like a snake too xD, And the letter c and a popcord skelet

  • man I've played this game, those were the days. XD

  • Reminds me of one of the games on that Namco volume 1,for the Playstation..

I love racers like this. Racing games now are just..Bleh. We need more 2D old school racers coming out. Same with other sports games.

  • hey, I had that! the museaum was nice

  • I find that the character walks a little too slow, but it's still nice.

  • One of my fav. old skool racer.

  • i played this when i was little ... still got it

  • sega had the best graphics in games.... the new game "modnation racers" is gonna have customizable tracks.

  • I remeber this one on Nintendo. I love this game!

  • wow this was my 1st gameboy game =D

  • Lol, I love the fact he always puts funny comentary in his videos. "PLEASE, shot the zombies" lol

  • are the lines on the track going forward or backward?

  • the lines are going towards the car. It looks like they're going the other way because it is an optical illustion.

  • got some gaming flash backs when i seen this review good times !

  • good game

  • Definitey reminds me of Hang On especially with the sound effects.

  • I see what you mean, especially when other cars pass you.

  • didn't excitebike have a level editor feature?

  • yep

  • Please, shoot the zombies.

    Love it.

  • I noticed more real tracks in this game like Mosport Raceway, Watkins Glen, Brands Hatch, and the Original Street Course Layout at Long Beach

  • The explosions are pure sweetness.

  • All the talk of adamantium in this review got me wondering: could a lightsabre cut through it?

Someone needs to get on this, I feel ^_^

  • please shoot a zombies hahahahahhaaa

  • RIP MEMORIES OLD SKOOL ROX T_T.

  • oh, very good gfx for 1986!

  • that intro sounds like song they use in a porno lol

but anyway i used to love this game lol

  • some people dont pirate.

  • You do realize that ROM's and emulators are illegal. (Unless licensed). I think people should stop pretending to be old-school gamers, cause if you are, you don't use emulators. (Yes, I am a retro gamer, I have a NES, SNES, Genesis and Atari 2600).

  • i have all plus a sega saturn, ps1,atari 7800,dreamcast and sega masters system

  • I have a SMS, Genesis, Game Gear, SEGA CD, 32X, Saturn, Dreamcast, GBA, N64, DS, Wii, PS2, PSP & TG-16. I've been considering getting an NES lately though because it's getting harder and harder to find games for the retro systems I already have.

  • Wow you almost have as many systems as me. You really can't go wrong with a NES or an SNES either. As a Sega fan I can tell you that there is just as much fun to be had on the Nintendo side of things and the games are dirt cheap and easy to find.

  • Ya the games are super easy to find but the console is selling for a premium, I can't find a used NES for less than 70 dollars in any of the local pawn shops, which is BS because even 5 years ago they were like 30. Besides, what I REALLY want is a TurboGraphx-CD

  • If You want a NES get a Retro Duo [plays NES and SNES]

Or get another dual system they play 2 different kinds for around 60 dollars, but I got my Genesis for 20 dollars, I think they thought it didn't work, but I got it to after an hour of effort...

  • Ya? Do any retailers carry this Retro Duo or is it something I have to import from online?

  • Probably order, but they are easy too find all over the net.

  • Retro Duo is okay, but I prefer getting the original systems.

One of the reasons is because of Super Nintendo's super effects chip. It was a chip inside the system that helped making good graphics and sound. If you get a Retro Duo, it won't play the games as well.

  • you're right, part of the good feeling when retro game collection comes from having authentic consoles and control pads. It just wouldn't be the same playing hours of NES without first feeling that click as the cart spring loads into the console and afterward seeing those little red marks where the corners of the control pad dug into your palms.

  • As stupid as that sounds to most people it's true. I went out and bought the genesis games I wanted and "skipped" the genesis collection. It's just better to play it on the system, there's less issues (normally) and it just feels better.

    Classic games rule

  • Ya, my only concern with my old games is that cart based systems are pretty indestructible but it's only a matter of time before the batteries that back up certain games die, and optical media is pretty indestructible but the systems that play it only last so long until they break down.

  • That's not true, you can replace the battery with a little soldering skill from what I understand. Then again I've had my games for over 10 years they're still working.

  • Oh ya? Well unfortunately I don't know how to solder but maybe someday I should learn. I'm on my third SEGA CD because the fuse has a tendancy to blow out but apparently it's relatively simple to solder in a new one IF you know how. But at least it's good to know that I won't have to throw out all My cart RPGs

  • Yep! :)

Plus, if it's a shooting game, emulators won't help because you need a gun to play those games.

  • That's true too, except my old CRT TV is getting a little funny in its old age. There's this tiny spot n the corner where the colour isn't right and so it means that it won't register shots there when I'm playing light gun games such as Virtua Cop or Snatcher. That wouldn't be a problem but new TVs don't work with light guns :(

  • Oh, you can get a SDTV. SDTVs are exact replicas of those old TVs, except maybe for the VHF part.

  • Well maybe I'll look into that, since I don't even own a PS3 yet there's no point in me dropping a bunch of money on a quote unquote "high def" TV. I dunno, I've just felt more interested in filling out my retro game collection than buying the new hotness, maybe I'm getting old and set in my ways. lol

  • "High def," lolz.

Those TVs are cool, I have a tube HDTV one in my house. It's high definition when you get those video component cable inputs and/or S-video inputs. For the most part, they work great for visual enhancement.

Believe me, many people have been feeling that way as of late. We look into older systems when there is nothing out there currently exciting. The failure of the Atari 5200 compared to the Atari 2600 is a good example of that.

  • At least the 5200 had a better sound chip set than the 7800 which used the same one as the 2600, it sounds terrible. On the other hand, the 7800 IS backwards compatible and you know what isn't? The PS3.

It's not that I'm disinterested in getting a PS3, it's just that all the games I'm interested in for it are just the same games I've already played but with newer graphics. GTAIV, MGS4, SFIV, GoWIII, even Bioshock is just a glossy steampunked up System Shock. So I'm not exactly DYING to get one.

  • Yeah, I'm not one to get the hots for PS3 either. I'm saving my mula for the Sega Phoenix.

  • Well I thought I had every SEGA system ..well except the PICO but who counts that anyway? But I'm not familiar with a Sega Phoenix, what is it?

  • It's a computer system in development by Sega as we speak. If you search up Google on it, you'll see it. It looks pretty awesome.

  • Ohh I see, it's one of those internet spread hoaxes and I was all excited for a minute. That was a cruel cruel trick adog : )

  • I thought that it was a hoax at first; however, after doing research on it, I discovered that it's no joke. Sega really is making something new. The only question is... what?

  • Well they are working on that robot girlfriend thing, maybe they're going to try an synergize by allowing players to hook into their recent Sonic games so they no longer have to imagine what it feels like for a Hedgehog to make out with a human, they can feel it. What SEGA does, Nintendon't.

  • Lolz.

  • Good luck with the Turbo Grafx-16 CD. Those are rare and expensive and you have to have the system card which is also rare and expensive. The Turbo Duo is crazy expensive too. It's a lot cheaper to import a Duo fro Japan. It doesn't have a region lock on CDs so you can play both US and Japan games. The Hu-Card does have region lock so it's easiest to just keep a regular TG-16 to play local games.

  • Ya they are expensive and even then I can only think of maybe 5 games tops I'd want for it and of those five games 3 of them are shmups, which as much as I love them, I can rarely make it past the first few levels - but man it would still be nerd-tastic to own a Turbografx-CD.

  • Here, here!

  • haha the sound fx are awesome!

  • Cool explosion animation :-)

  • i think ive played this game on airplane 0.0

  • Cool sound effects!

  • awsome....

  • WHERE CAN I GET THIS THEME???

  • That game was awesome back in the day. Great review as always !

  • Review more Sega master system games!

  • Man I hope I still can succeed in life, I was sooo serious about the first comment :.(

  • I don't know but if you watch the track for a while it feels like it's going backwards :P

  • Had alot of fun with the track editor on this game.

  • I owned this game when I was a kid. I loved the track editor. "Saving" was an unknown word at this time.

  • please shoot the zonbies hahaha

  • i got this

wished my sms still worked :(

  • Review Sonic on SMS please

  • Nice reviews

  • whoaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa havent seen this game in about 10 years (i played it when i was 11)

    great review ass always
