Hi I live in Canada and my local bait store only sell candian night crawlers (regular worms) will they work to or should I just order the red wigglers off of ebay?
instead of buying the vents, you could just cut slots into the plastic tub, i mean, you did cut into them to install the vents, i know it's cheap, but i'm cheaper
why didn't you just drill a bunch of little holes rather than cut a big hole for the grate? Or drill a few of the larger holes like you did but cover that with plain ol' window screen?
Did you get this right on the first try? It looked like you may have cut the hole too large the first time. You drew a line the same size as the vent and then cut along the line. Wouldn't that make the hole the same size as the vent with nothing to screw it into? I'm just sayin :^ )
But your vent idea is by far the best and cleanest looking method I've seen. I plan to do the same. Thank you for posting this video - as well as the others. Your videos are always fun to watch and very informative.
@FlintMich I did get it on the first try....You have a really tough question! I am sitting here trying to think.....UM i guess I will have to look at the box...this is kinda an old video......I will have to get back to you cause I don't really know...I mean what you said makes a lot of sense ...it should have not worked according to the video.......Let me check for you.......later.......Rick.
I am thinking about making one out of a tall kitchen trash can with one of those foot lids. you know the kind that you just step on and it opens.. or are they to tall and not wide enough?
Hi Rick, thanks for the video. That's a huge worm bin! You might want to consider tiny drainaige holes in the bottom but then you would have to figure out how to collect the worm/compost-tea. I used two buckets and put a rock inbetween for separation..
Skybirdbird, you can not use regular garden worms, you need red worms that usually live in (horse)manure. Well known under fancy names like Red Wiggler or European Nightcrawler. You can just get them at your local bait store.
Well this one ( I have several ) goes in the house so no drainaige hole. I have a box 6'x2' That has a 3/4" hole that catches all the tea. It does really good.

I think those are called soffit vents.
Is it like fish, where they only grow as big as the container they're in?
I can't wait to have worms in my kitchen.
breezebro 2 years ago
Har ,har, Thats right soffit vents. thanks. I don't know about the big container thing I know they will make babies up to 2 pounds in 8 weeks! lol

Could you just drill holes in it? What kind of worms...just from the yard??? Do you start with soil or just scraps??? Thanks for the post.
skybirdbird 2 years ago
Hey, You could drill 1/4" holes instead.
Red wigglers from any bait shop.\
Start with a layer of card board then a layer of newspaper then worms & green scraps.
