well, its good show, but there is one thing that I wanted to mention is a korean food that you think is traditional, it really is not. Alot of korean food you might think it was traditional, maybe 50years? or little more 60 years old?
Many food was created or discovered after the korean war.
At 5:53 her grandpa says "this year you have to get married" .....What he doesnt realize is that she has integrated into american life where it is acceptable to be a whore and sleep with multiple people BEFORE you get married.
also it is not uncommon to see single mothers in US and it is accepted rather than looked down upon as the shameful spectacle it is. Congratulations she has been "westernized" (stripped of ALL values)
@agenthelios1 really so some girl gets knocked and the guy runs of and the girl is left with the kid. Not only should she raise the baby by herself but she should feel ashamed to do it. Those are awesome values.
@KingMinosxxvi NO, they both (guy included) be ashamed of themselves...but girl doesnt have the moral foundation to make sound decisions in US. They are taught by media that its cool to be a whore...why do you think Kardashians, Hilton etc. are famous?
ok to all the koreans who think she said 'ssi bal' at 0:17, she didn't. if u listen closely, the dude jokingly complains about having to drink more alcohol and she says "she brought it over" while laughing/losing her breath and it does slightly sound like she said ssi bal, but im sure she didn't. no one is that stupid, there's a worker right next to her.
kimchi sucks ass!!!!! its kinda ok the first time but its eaten in korea 3 or 4 time a day. YUCK!!!!! and soju and beer binges are mandatory your not aloud to say no if you do your host looks like you pucnhed them in the face. and its not just like here have drink have contiunally down glasses of beer with huge shots of soju in them.
@KingMinosxxvi To be fare im not a fan of adults with children getting divorced just cause they feel like it. However, I have known allot of a few korean married, not abk korean men or imigrated one. @devilhunterred You're an ignorant buffoon jumping on let's hate korea band wagon. If you're gonna criticize at least get the facts straight. Ja Jang myun (the Korean version) was created by ethnic Chinese immigrant to Korea at one of the first Chinese restaurant in Korea in Inchon. And you can find Ja Jang Myun most exclusively in Chinese restaurants in Korea. And just like American Pizza it's different from Chinese version. We never claimed it was Korean.
i was recently in korea with a friend whos a native from there and out of all the countries in asia ive been to the food there was the best. i am dissappointed anthony didnt try bulgogi or...dog, but was pleased to see he got into the octopus legs, though i wasnt much of a fan. when i ate dog i have to say i thoroughly enjoyed it and im confident anthony would like it to.

Wow, your a hypocrite. You are calling people ignorant and you are being ignorant.....great. Here is the thing, there are idiots every where. I have been to Tokyo, Berlin, Fuzhou, and born and raised in USA. I can tell you something their are stupid and racist people where ever you go.
That's my point. Everytime you see (a) Korean dish(s) being presented, it's usually galbi (kalbi) or bulgogi (bool go ghee) LOL (sorry, I spelled it differently) It's nice to see other dishes highlighted other then those two... ya know what I mean??!! Have a good day!!
True, Bulgogi and galbi are the mainstays of Korean cuisine and they are both intechangeable. However, there is so much more to try. Bibimbap for example. I live here and although most Korean food falls into the spice and meat catergory there is a lot of superb food if you are brave enough to try it. Peace
Well, that explains it now, doesn't it? :0) I was wondering why you know so much about Korean food!! hahahaha Well, for whatever reason(s) you are in Korea, enjoy, be safe and good luck with all your endeavours!! CHEERS!
what a coincidence. i ended up having some rough convo with the "dilliondemand" dude on a totally different video. i am surprised he's literally everywhere talking shit about s.korea. shame on him, an ignorant totally childish human being. im sure many of his fellow vietnamese are embarrassed to have him around. how immature.
Ok I'm not saying too much. You have to figure it out Nari took Anthony to the place that people make out there. What was in her head? And same here with the cave. She was a Big giver? Don't you get it?
Nari, as well as the 'No Reservations' show, was trying to show what Korean Culture is all about. Which is why they are showing Kimchi, and how it's made. They talked with her Grandfather, and he told his escape from N. Korea. They also visited a fish market. In the beginning, if you look closely, you'll see Nari in a Hanbok.
The purpose of the show is to not ONLY portray the food, but to also give viewers an inside look into the Korean culture. Whether you like it or not: a DVD Bang is part of the Korean Culture. Because many Koreans do not move out of their parents' home until marriage, many young Koreans frequent DVD Bangs to make out.
What is really sad, is that this show managed to shed a positive light on your country, despite the xenophobic Koreans like yourself who treat all foreigners with disdain. When you post such slander on YouTube because you don't like to see progress over Korean tradition -you become no better than the garbage on the streets of Itaewon.
Korea is an amazing place. There is so much to see and do here that this show could barely scratch the surface. It's too bad there are a few racist pricks like you, that embarrass your whole country.
dilliondemand, there is no need to tell you fucking why - you wacko. The things that comes out of your mouth already shows what a sick individual you are.
If you don't like the young Koreans going to DVD Bangs, then don't put beds in them, or better yet -make them illegal. You should also outlaw all the sex/massage parlors that blatantly advertise on the street. You should also ban the Love Motels, which come with free porn and free condoms. After that you can easily get rid of the foreigners -stop sending your children to Hakwons!
Koreans are a beautiful people and Korea is a beautiful country, albeit with a sad past. Mr. Bourdain does a very honest and noble job showing the American view of Korean culture. I haven't yet tried the chicken ANUSes, though I've tried damn near every other part. With the right sauce, I might like 'em. Oh, and when I finally leave Korea to head back to the States, I'm bringing with me about 20 liters worth of Soju.
P.S. Nari, if you're still not married, hit me up sometime ;-)
just from reading this thread, i can't help but be amazed at the overall insecurity of the korean ppl. so who cares if someone doesn't see a certain aspect of a particular culture? who cares if someone doesn't find it more 'refined' than any other? i mean, the fuck do you want? will it satiate your gluttonous pride if bourdain signed up for korean citizenship by the end of the day? jesus christ. a culture can't be judged nor measured. one culture isn't better than the other.
the only significance of a culture is derived solely from the fact that it exists! nothing else.
and PLEASE don't play the japanese card. calling one culture 'deeper' than the other is extremely naive. and please, PLEASE stop dwelling on a shitty past with a different country. you're only seeking an apology from a generation that has pretty much died off. you're blowing smoke into a barrel that hasn't been fired by it's current owner.
No I agree with junyc71. I've met tons of insecure ethnocentric Koreans. They're always trying to gain some sort of attention about how great and superior their country is compared to others. They're like a pestering little sibling with an inferiority complex. It's so silly, it embarrasses the Korean people, and it needs to stop.
Possibly, their are tons of koreans with a lot of pride! But i dont blame koreans! Because I honestly think it takes fucken balls for a small country to be inbetween 3 of the strongest countries in the world! China, largest population, Russia, biggest country, and Japan, 2nd largest economy! And to withstand pressure for 1000's of years! Well I'd like to compare korea's history with any other country! So u may be right about some of the things you said, but dont be pointing fingers at korea only!
And i agrew i only came here to watch this clip until some dumbass vietnamese kid made a racist statement about koreans for no reasons!
So i had to argue, lol! And again, your comments some of it may be true! But not all koreans are like that! And it's not just the koreans! Japanese peopel also have tremendous pride, and they tend to get pissed when when others cant recognize them! So nationalism is the problem!
That is what causes this! So dont be just blaming the koreans, that's biased!
And also keep in mind that her approach was very natural in showing the youth side of Korean culture. Yet she did a good job of showing the roots and catering to the content of the show itself. Korea is a beautiful place with a rich deep culture that Koreans can really call it theirs. Unlike Japan who stole everything from Korea and other Asian countries.
Judging purely by this show, I loved the presentation of Japan WAY more than Korea. Japan seemed refined, profound, with a deep sense of awareness in everything they do. As for Korea, well, soju soju soju soju, hangover, then more soju. Some arcade, Go to some more rural areas, movie/make out rooms, Oh, and don't forget to show your respect to the elders (then some more soju). Good grief. Way to go Nari. Let's try to at least show a little more sophisticated parts of your country next time
Hey jurk she's just trying to show him a good time in Seoul. Visit Korea and you might just find refinement and more if you just gave it a chance. i know I'll never go to Japan, the nation that persecuted Korea and got away with it.
Hey now, I'm not saying Korea CANT be refined. I'm just saying Nari could have done better. I would have liked to see historical sites and see more of the etiquette(s) that make Korea unique. Not just the drinking habits of many Koreans (which I think seriously needs to be looked upon). Btw you'll never go to Japan because they persecuted Korea? Understandable, but thats really disappointing to hear. Japan is great, trust me. Then how about Germany? And don't forget here USA (Native Americans).
Keep in mind (FACT) that the so called tradition Japan shows is all stolen from Korea & other Asian countries. There is nothing unique or original about Japanese culture. 1/3 of Japanese have Korean blood. Japan stole everything from Korea and call it theirs. It's a big front they put on to make the world believe it's Japanese this & that. WRONG! Japan just a few years ago altered their school text books to keep their youth from knowing just how F'd up Japanese were and today (govt. wise) are.
Sorry. Through my own personal experience I have to disagree with you. EVERY country is unique and there is NO country with "pure blood" (whatever that is). ALL history is written by humans, therefore it is subjugated to biased views so I am not surprised (It does not make a country "bad").
you have to keep in mind that Japan holds an enduring place in Bourdain's heart. He likes Japanese food and culture. Korea, on the other hand, he doesn't hold the same admiration. So naturally his defenses are up because Korea is foreign in the most fundamental way.
Yeah i agree with you to a certain extent. But that's the korean life. soju soju soju
soju, is sometimes very good good good good! lol~ its very funny and exciting, but its prolly not too fun for an American guy.
i came to US from korea around the 80's and way different from the korea today. Everything is so technological and
modernized!there used to been more respect back than.but still Korea is awesome.u seem to have alot of interest in korea for a Jap guy. i c ur comment everywhere. lol~

Koreans do not bring up bowls of rice or soup.
Some people in my country also say it is "pet eating" way.
But this is simply because of the difference of food cultures.
In Korea, bowls or dishes are made of steel so it becomes too hot to bring up. Then they use spoon for rice or soup and chopstick for other dishes.
It is not a good manner in Korea to bring a bowl up or eat rice by chopstick.

It's nice to see other Korean food(s) than Kalbi or bool go ghee!! NICE!!

try galbi and bulgogi
Brenho 2 years ago
That's my point. Everytime you see (a) Korean dish(s) being presented, it's usually galbi (kalbi) or bulgogi (bool go ghee) LOL (sorry, I spelled it differently) It's nice to see other dishes highlighted other then those two... ya know what I mean??!! Have a good day!!
cestmoilailah 2 years ago
True, Bulgogi and galbi are the mainstays of Korean cuisine and they are both intechangeable. However, there is so much more to try. Bibimbap for example. I live here and although most Korean food falls into the spice and meat catergory there is a lot of superb food if you are brave enough to try it. Peace

You said "I live here".. you live in Korea?
cestmoilailah 2 years ago
I do. Busan.
Brenho 2 years ago
Well, that explains it now, doesn't it? :0) I was wondering why you know so much about Korean food!! hahahaha Well, for whatever reason(s) you are in Korea, enjoy, be safe and good luck with all your endeavours!! CHEERS!

No. The sauce may be the same, but one is a thin cut of beef and another is ribs.

Ok I'm not saying too much. You have to figure it out Nari took Anthony to the place that people make out there. What was in her head? And same here with the cave. She was a Big giver? Don't you get it?

Can you tell me fucking why?
dilliondemand 2 years ago
I will tell you.
Nari, as well as the 'No Reservations' show, was trying to show what Korean Culture is all about. Which is why they are showing Kimchi, and how it's made. They talked with her Grandfather, and he told his escape from N. Korea. They also visited a fish market. In the beginning, if you look closely, you'll see Nari in a Hanbok.
serp82 2 years ago 8
The purpose of the show is to not ONLY portray the food, but to also give viewers an inside look into the Korean culture. Whether you like it or not: a DVD Bang is part of the Korean Culture. Because many Koreans do not move out of their parents' home until marriage, many young Koreans frequent DVD Bangs to make out.
serp82 2 years ago 4
What is really sad, is that this show managed to shed a positive light on your country, despite the xenophobic Koreans like yourself who treat all foreigners with disdain. When you post such slander on YouTube because you don't like to see progress over Korean tradition -you become no better than the garbage on the streets of Itaewon.
serp82 2 years ago
Korea is an amazing place. There is so much to see and do here that this show could barely scratch the surface. It's too bad there are a few racist pricks like you, that embarrass your whole country.
serp82 2 years ago 6
dilliondemand, there is no need to tell you fucking why - you wacko. The things that comes out of your mouth already shows what a sick individual you are.
jjun4733 2 years ago

P.S. Nari, if you're still not married, hit me up sometime ;-)

just from reading this thread, i can't help but be amazed at the overall insecurity of the korean ppl. so who cares if someone doesn't see a certain aspect of a particular culture? who cares if someone doesn't find it more 'refined' than any other? i mean, the fuck do you want? will it satiate your gluttonous pride if bourdain signed up for korean citizenship by the end of the day? jesus christ. a culture can't be judged nor measured. one culture isn't better than the other.
junyc71 2 years ago
the only significance of a culture is derived solely from the fact that it exists! nothing else.
and PLEASE don't play the japanese card. calling one culture 'deeper' than the other is extremely naive. and please, PLEASE stop dwelling on a shitty past with a different country. you're only seeking an apology from a generation that has pretty much died off. you're blowing smoke into a barrel that hasn't been fired by it's current owner.
junyc71 2 years ago 3
i've got to say, some of the comments of this thread has really undermined MY pride as a korean citizen.
junyc71 2 years ago
i see insecurity in yourself. watching a korean food video, talking about something totally unrelated to food.
Almost as if to make a point or something.
lol~~ man go get a job stop bashing koreans , dumbass..
stockmaster1982 2 years ago 2
No I agree with junyc71. I've met tons of insecure ethnocentric Koreans. They're always trying to gain some sort of attention about how great and superior their country is compared to others. They're like a pestering little sibling with an inferiority complex. It's so silly, it embarrasses the Korean people, and it needs to stop.
leejae 2 years ago
Possibly, their are tons of koreans with a lot of pride! But i dont blame koreans! Because I honestly think it takes fucken balls for a small country to be inbetween 3 of the strongest countries in the world! China, largest population, Russia, biggest country, and Japan, 2nd largest economy! And to withstand pressure for 1000's of years! Well I'd like to compare korea's history with any other country! So u may be right about some of the things you said, but dont be pointing fingers at korea only!
stockmaster1982 2 years ago 6
And i agrew i only came here to watch this clip until some dumbass vietnamese kid made a racist statement about koreans for no reasons!
So i had to argue, lol! And again, your comments some of it may be true! But not all koreans are like that! And it's not just the koreans! Japanese peopel also have tremendous pride, and they tend to get pissed when when others cant recognize them! So nationalism is the problem!
That is what causes this! So dont be just blaming the koreans, that's biased!
stockmaster1982 2 years ago
Well, I've met tons of non-Koreans who are that way, so don't generalize.
jstele 1 year ago

Let's try to at least show a little more sophisticated parts of your country next time
ninmuraisamja 2 years ago
Hey jurk she's just trying to show him a good time in Seoul. Visit Korea and you might just find refinement and more if you just gave it a chance. i know I'll never go to Japan, the nation that persecuted Korea and got away with it.
kdramafreak123 2 years ago
Hey now, I'm not saying Korea CANT be refined. I'm just saying Nari could have done better. I would have liked to see historical sites and see more of the etiquette(s) that make Korea unique. Not just the drinking habits of many Koreans (which I think seriously needs to be looked upon). Btw you'll never go to Japan because they persecuted Korea? Understandable, but thats really disappointing to hear. Japan is great, trust me. Then how about Germany? And don't forget here USA (Native Americans).
ninmuraisamja 2 years ago 2
Keep in mind (FACT) that the so called tradition Japan shows is all stolen from Korea & other Asian countries. There is nothing unique or original about Japanese culture. 1/3 of Japanese have Korean blood. Japan stole everything from Korea and call it theirs. It's a big front they put on to make the world believe it's Japanese this & that. WRONG! Japan just a few years ago altered their school text books to keep their youth from knowing just how F'd up Japanese were and today (govt. wise) are.
MOONiE2k6 2 years ago
Sorry. Through my own personal experience I have to disagree with you. EVERY country is unique and there is NO country with "pure blood" (whatever that is). ALL history is written by humans, therefore it is subjugated to biased views so I am not surprised (It does not make a country "bad").
ninmuraisamja 2 years ago
you have to keep in mind that Japan holds an enduring place in Bourdain's heart. He likes Japanese food and culture. Korea, on the other hand, he doesn't hold the same admiration. So naturally his defenses are up because Korea is foreign in the most fundamental way.
crazydancingpoet 2 years ago
Definitely. But the question is "why"?

Yeah i agree with you to a certain extent. But that's the korean life. soju soju soju
soju, is sometimes very good good good good! lol~ its very funny and exciting, but its prolly not too fun for an American guy.
i came to US from korea around the 80's and way different from the korea today. Everything is so technological and
modernized!there used to been more respect back than.but still Korea is awesome.u seem to have alot of interest in korea for a Jap guy. i c ur comment everywhere. lol~

I (try) to respect all countries by accepting both the good and bad things about them.
Last time I drank Korean Soju, I must have slept for 30 hours.
ninmuraisamja 2 years ago
lately japan want to claim soju as their liquor. japan started call(write) soju as sochu(japanese pronuncation of soju) in international place.
