Clearly the Flyers were the one with the puck ergo they were the ones that had the onus to keep the play going forward. Anyone who lays the blame on the Tampa Bay Lightning for using the neutral zone trap, which has been around for a long time, are ignorant to hockey and its history. This is nothing new, Laviolette was exposed for not knowing how to deal with a defense that has been around for ages and thats it

Hockey is the only game where the defence can hold the puck indefinitely (the neutral zone trap). Every other sport has a rule rule where the play cannot be stopped. The ball must be released into play within seconds. Otherwise, the other teams gets possession. The rule for hockey the trap is a delay of game. Automatic two-minute penalty to the holding team. Puck must be released with in five seconds of possession by a player if that player is not moving.

neither team is necessarily "wrong" in this situation, they're simply in a stale-mate situation. the D is in a trap setup which the offense didn't like so they held the puck back. If you watch the rest of the game the Flyers began setting up plays to move the puck forward in the trap. Basically both teams were in situations they had to adjust to the other team's setup
