Isn't the objective a variable output from a constant input? (Optimum pedal rotation rate and force - slowing down or speeding up based on potential energy gain/loss from going up or downhill?)
You should at least give a link to somewhere else where you keep the explanation, working principle, facts (efficiency, torque/power limits of the prototipe, max/min ratios). This video shows and tells almost nothing and does not show how good you worked. Research results must be made appealing whenever possible to get funds and/or sell the product...
i need to see a picture of the complete machine, preferably with a video of it being assembled... what is that noise its making halfway through the video?
The blue and yellow markers show me that the the driving gear and driven hear rotate at different rates. Each time they come around they are a little farther apart. But what I don't see is that rate changing, continuously, much less discreetly. You should at least attach two digital tachometers and let us see the read outs as the output rate of rotation changes as the rate changer varies and as the input gear is rotated at a constant angular velocity. Shame to build this and give it 40 sec.
the video doesnt mean anything unless it is not explained by some one ! oh please. what i can see is just a wheel of time running by a chain. explain it dude..
it looks neat but I don't get how it works. it shows it spinning but not how it works. you have to understand that what you know of it is not what others know of it so the video actually has to explain or show how it works, not just be a recognizable object to you who already know. it's an ability called 'theory of mind'. you need to train that
Is is good for a bicycle and what is the reduction ratio, the spread ratio?

A. Weighs more than my bicycle
B. I'd have to clean it 6 times a week and it looks like that would be no fun.
C. Don't see the benefits

Judging from the video, I think this is aimed at bicycles.
I see 3 major issues for such an application.
One would be maintenance, which is something most bicycles don't get often enough.
The second one would be the weight. This is a major issue due to the fact that it's rotating mass as well, which will make for heavier pedaling.
The third issue would be making it water- and dirtproof, which would require a big housing, adding even more rotating mass.

Pointless.... too much.. friction when changing gears...
also not that efficient in transfering energy..
40 is wasted on friction...

Dan, you're right! YouTube is about good storytelling; there's a LOT more story here that needs explaining, either in text/video.
