It's great to hear he made the scores. The RB position will be evened out now with Devin and Kerns, and throw in Gwaltney. Kerns is goung to be a beast. Bench 600 and run a 4.4 40? This kid may be able to replace Schmit.
White,Devine,Kerns along with our returning WR's Gonzalez and Sanders...playing behind a talented and deep O-line. Not to mention the attack now being run by an OC who has some imagination and diversity.
LBH: "I wish he woulda passed"? After reading the WVU boards it appears that Holliday and a good friend of Kerns are confident that he'll wearing the blue and gold in September. We should know any day now. Keep the faith.
So there's still hope? thank God! my friend is a wvu alumn and subscribes to rivals and goldandblue news and was telling me we weren't getting him. But hey, I hope you're right!
LBH: From what I'm reading on the WVU board we should know by 7/10 or 7/11.
Keep your fingers crossed. I can only imagine the more diverse playcalling under the new OC with the possibility of Kerns lining up in the same backfield with White and Devine.
This guy will be great, he just needs to work on his keeping his pads level and square, with some fine RB coaching at WVU he will be a very very productive runner. He wont be outrunning people like that on the next level but i'll take 5yrds a pop in between the tackles any day as long as white and devine give me TD's outside the tackles :D :D :D GO ERRRRS!!
i couldnt agree more dan. he's going to be a great complement to the finesse running game of devine. he's not necessarily going to replace schmitt position-wise, but he'll still add a great deal of power to the backfield. last season we used to say speed kills... speed AND muscle are going to annihilate. im looking forward to the 08 season. LETS GOOOOOO MOUNTAINEERS!
wow! This guy is one of the many reasons that im transferring from Fairmont State to WVU.I have to be part of this WVU program even if its just as a student. This guy chose the right place to be.
from a former college RB: Kerns is a good HS RB, but he needs to work on keeping his shoulders over his feet, which will help him to run with better leverage. This will also help him to not to telegraph his cuts, as he currently raises up before cutting. Breaking this bad habit will help him play earlier as it reduces his risk of fumbling.
Don't forget about Jock Sanders. Kerns is a big kid and would be a great fit for Owens old spot. Devine isn't gonna get 30 carries a game. He doesn't need to when you have White running the ball as well. Gotta keep Pat healthy this year.
Well, i think Kerns would be a good Primary back. To fill the void left by Slaton/Schmitt. Don't get me wrong Noel is excellent, I just question his ability to endure 30 Snaps a game. (From a Health stand point) Now with Kerns in the line up to carry the majority of the blows. I'm feeling pretty good about our offensive! Now the "D" is a whole other animal. :o)
if only slaton had stayed. imagine him, white, and devine in the backfield together. hell, they could probably fit kerns in too somehow. oh well. we do need a new fullback.
good, I love speed and quickness, but nothing goes better with it than pure run somebodys ass over POWER! God I hope things work out with Coach Stewart, hes a great guy and a TRUE West Virginian. I work on the sidelines at the home games, and I have seen how he is with the players, he is a great coach, I just hope he can get the job done in recruiting.
He should be able to help take the load of carries off of White, Slaton and Devine so they can rest more and be more fresh.
Kerns is perfect for getting the tough yardage and just grinding down the D which should help Slaton, White and Devine more in terms of making it less difficult for them to make big plays on a weaking D.
not dissn ut our runningback was better 6'4 260 kid was unstopable

feeldasteel,
Yes, at this point he is fully committed to WVU. Trust me, this guy is going to be a good one. He has great power and runs a 4.45.

Do you think he has enough power to be half as good as shmitty. if so, then were set.
CoreyIsMurder 4 years ago
CoreyIsMurder,
As good as Owen has been, Kerns should be better. Kerns is a little smaller than Owen but he has quicker feet and is faster.
Kerns should be able to step in and run block for Slaton and Devine next year and run it himself. He is more of a big play threat than Owen.
