None of these videos will have successfull builders in them, they actually realize that the extra time to install it perfect is wasted time. Insulated wall is a very VERY small peice of the home energy pie. Going with ZERO wall insulation would change my new homes bills by less than 1$/month. or less than .01% of the energy useage in your house. Only morons worry about installing it perfect, and morons arent successful builders. Morons are the 25k/year inspectors that work for the public.
People that pick apart the few mistakes made with batting insulation seem to forget the best windows/doors out there are like r-2 or r-3, same with studs, plates, t's, corners. About 40% of the avg. wall is made up of these R-3 things, why are you picking on the batting that might compress and brind an R-10? Insulated wall accounts for about 5-10% of the envelope. Spray foam jockies rememer, the three leakiest place in homes doors,windows,base plates, none of which get spray foamed.
...you've got to be joking. this crap is horrible for the environment, people, and architecture. the fiberglass insulation industry is about to be taken over by the s.i.p and foam industry. both of those alternatives are a million time better than fiberglass.
@optiKalismo s.i.p. actually has lost ground because of moisture issues, cost, being built in a factory and not matching up on the job. Foam is worse for the environment than fiberglass, even the soy based are a majority petro product. If a house is sealed properly, r-value/$ is all that matters, if you have two houses with R-15 walls, and you paid more for one(foam) you are the idiot. Old houses were leaky, and somehow fiberglass catches shit for it. 85%+ market share for over 40 years,4a reasn
@HomeEnergyNow ...r-value IS all that matters and sips and foam assure that, so u dont have to worry about mishaps like on this video...and several other factors as to why it's better...i am busy at work dealing with design issues with this very thing with batt...these things have been tested and proven in the field even on projects i have worked on...i am not getting into this with you on youtube especially when my comment is 3 years old...
I build 25 houses a year, I have gotten my HVAC license and building performance license tried and tested every insulation combination, used ROI calculators, used real world numbers. I knew when I started SIP and Foam cost more than they save, but went ahead and proved it. People that think foam or SIP will ever touch loose fill or batt fiberglass suck at math and shouldnt say anything regarding home energy. When insulated wall makes up 5-10% envelope, idiots waste time picking it apart.
Fiberglass insulation is a poor quality product installed by poorly trained, low paid installers(exceptions to the rule granted)who rush through the job. If you watch this video and use fiberglass, than the joke is on you. Foam it and forget it! There is nothing better...
@donsym that is why it has been around for many decades and hasnt even got 5% of the market? LOL Insulated walls make up avg. 10% of your envelope, use R-1billion space age insulation, it won't do jack for your bills. If you properly seal the outer air barrier, and the inner air barrier, than fiberglass preformes exactly the same as open cell foam, for about 1/4 the price. I guess foam installers aren't low paid illegals where you live? They are here, foam is the worst choice for insulation.
And that camera guy's "It didn't take long" comment. How about the other 200 bays with wires in them, will they take long ?? Will you pay the installer extra for doing it??

The crack he left at the bottom is worse than compression. FAIL!

foam=£££££ glass=£+speed.
contractors only care about the cheapest way to comply, not necessarily which is best.
Fiberglass is here to stay.

I'd love to see this ass insulate a house. Go ahead, do a house and live on the pay it pays and do it the way you say it should be done.
