  • I learned about the Chinese steam locomotief from television a while ago. Very cool. Who doesn't like a steam engine, regardless of where it comes from? These things are big beasts (2-10-2?-do I have that right?). Very cool in how these locomotiefs look like they look. I'll bet the 2 engineers love every minute of it.

  • Wow, what fun.

  • This video brought back childhood memories. Thank you!

  • I don't know if the childhood memories were because you are from Iowa, you remember steam engines or you are Chinese. Glad you enjoyed the clip. I just posted a couple of shots of AMtrak near Kankakee IL. Just search for Tedeboy999 and you'll get all my clips.

  • I remember it because I'm Chinese. I'm from Canton, and in the late 80's early 90's, they were widespread even in my area. Whenever dad and I go somewhere, I rush to the front of the platform as soon as I get off, or before I get on, and I'd just sit there and just marvel at this huge black mass and then watch it as it pulls off.

  • Wow. I am glad you enjoyed the clip. I wsih I could have seen some of those engines in actual service. I guy I knew went there 15 years ago and got all kinds of pictures of much bigger engines that operated in mountain areas and produced huge white plumes of steam in the winter.

  • Thanks for this posting

Was this a fan trip or were the engines in revenue service? Do they still use steam for revenue in China?

    Thanks and cheers!

  • They did use steam on some freight lines until a couple of years ago from dates on pictures I've seen but never been to China myself. The two engines inported from China in good working order are on the roster of the Iowa Interstate R.R. and are stored at Iowa City. They are periodically for fan trips or charity events. The videos are of October 2008 trips between Iowa City and Rock Island IL

  • @Tedeboy999

Thanks for the detailed answer which is appreciated.............

    Very interesting, thanks and cheers!

  • Steam engines were used up until 2006 I think, anyways within the last 10 years they have stoped using them.
