Amazing build Wayne! The baddest V-8 engine ever. I met you years ago w/ Matt Johnson and admire your work. Do you still own the Grabber green GT-500 and what engine is in it now ?
this engine was made guys to stop the hemi in nascar back in the day. they ran that engine at a track just testing it out and went 220mph and made roughly 800hp the president of nascar at the time said hell no that engine is outlawed and the ford boys told him that sucks because they havent even worked out the bugs or dropped the hammer on it yep thats the baddest engine on the planet i love this engine it makes power quick like a old pushrod but has the steady hp climb of high revvin ohc motor
@schatzisgirl1 I don,t doubt the 220mph,but 800hp is a bit much.....try about 680hp....Chrysler tested a 69 Dodge Daytona at their proving grounds at Chelsea and it ran a best top speed of 243mph in 1969
I've been a Henry Ford Man forever! I bleed FORD BLUE! But one of the DUMBEST things Ford ever did was discontinue the FE 427 and 428s, Especially the SOHC FE 427. The only thing the FE 427s, 428s and 427 SOHCs needed was more developement.
Next to the Boss 429, the 427 SOHC was an awesome, not to mention Pretty Engine!
@jamesjdb haha what do you mean next to? I believe the cammer is the work of art of the past century bar none. Boss 429 should come second to the cammer.
@thing503: They're both AWESOME Engines (427 SOHC & BOSS 429) and works of art from FORD. The original idea for the 427 SOHC came from FORDS 255 Small Block Dual Overhead Cam Indy Engine which was made before the 427 SOHC. But if I had to choose between engines, I'd choose the SOHC. I wish FORD would bring the FE 427 SOHC back!
@thing503: DAMN! An EFI FE 427 CAMMER? I got an ENGINE Chubby Now! LOL.. That would be an Awesome Bitch, to say the least.. Now we just have to find something to put it in, because I doubt it would squeeze into the Stang. But maybe it could..
@jamesjdb Unfortunately, it had to do with economics and the EPA. The high grade cast iron and engineering it took to make a 427 more expensive than a production car company was willing to invest, and the fact that NASCAR wouldn't back the SOHC, plus the introdtction of environmental standards were the nails in the coffin. the ease, from a manufactuting POV, was to ditch the 428 and just use the 429 in it's various forms.
I am using stock non adjustable rockers with lash caps because I feel they are more durable at high RPM (8000) I am Wayne the owner and builder of this engine. I have 4 of these ingines in cars plus another 6 ,anywhere from parts to be assembled to complete engines, including one NOS. The engine in this video is going into my '66 copper color tube chassis w/ Air Shifted Liberty....will soon post video of this car. The carbs are custom built Dom Split , made for the car.
This is a thing of pure Awesome. Is this one of the Aussie engines or one that you put together yourself from different parts manufacturers. I Know it cant be an original one.
That would be a great engine for my 71 Comet! Would definitely put a spring in her step LOL

@jamesjdb definitely. maybe for the new supersnake or something. A modern EFI computer controlled 427 would be a beast.

Is it just me or do the FE's seem to rev higher and quicker, faster than the 385's or LIMA's??AWSOME by the way. Thanks for posting.
peranaz 2 years ago
Due to the smaller main bearing journals/diameter so less rotating mass (lighter) and therefore faster revving
188397 2 years ago
It sure sounds faster,I thought I was dreaming! LOL thanx for letting me know.

id put that in a 67 fastback pro touring.

It does look kinda odd, doesn't it? & the carbs look like Holley Dominators cut in half.
