  • Where is Munkustrap in this song??

  • /watch?v=GaEWPOWzsOc

    ^ There's number 20 c:

  • i have a question are you going to try to put up 20 again?

  • Where's part 20? And those of you haven't read Old Possums Book Of Practical Cats, you should. There's two or three poems that didn't make the musical that are well worth the look! I love "Cat Morgan Introduces Himself" !

  • @MsDragonChild:20 Got blocked :(

  • a worthy finish. gives me shivers

  • I like Oldie's Shoulder thing at 1:24 he's like "yeah, nailed it;)"

  • This song brings tears to my eyes.

  • plato looks so cute its zoomed in on him<3333 and my hahahahah tantomile needs some chapstick...............................

  • I just can't get enough of CATS! every song is so iconic..the dancing is AMAZING, just can't stop watching the DVD~!

  • I can see why this show has been running like forever the actng, music, and singng is awesome. I remember watching the commericals ad for the musical when I was a girl wondering what it was about, and my mom would say "It's just about CATS." Laffin @juzzylime94 the inspiration is from a book of poems called Old Possum's Book of Practical cats by T. S. Eloit he wrote for he's grandkids in the 30's. I had to wikipedia that. I wanted to know the same thing.

  • Just watched the whole musical for the first time ever. I've always been a dog person, and I still am, but I now have a whole new respect for cats. And from now on, whenever I pass one in the street, I shall bow, and address him as "O cat", just in case.

  • @GIRLSKATER6

That makes sense. I think they should have been a little farther forward cuz you can barely see Munk. Tugger is pretty clear but I have watched this probably 30 times and just noticed Munk last time I watched this.

  • I can't watch the ending of cats it makes me cry cause I think that the movie is over

  • Why aren't Tugger and Munk down with everyone else? They're both in the back standing on some of the set. I'd always noticed Tugger back there but I just noticed Munk. Why are they back there?

  • @LemonadeIcedTea01

I think its cos they're Deut's sons, and standing away from every one else makes them look significant, cos they are.

  • Etcetra is soo damn sexy!! XD

  • @MatchBoy117

    she is my favorite! XD

  • Old D. has an so beautiful voice

  • Old D. is like the Jesus of the Jellicle tribe, lol!

  • lol I LUV U TUGGER!!! <3

  • @ImToHotFromTheUs more like SEXY BEASTS!! rofl

  • My high school just did this play for one of our productions and it was fantasic! I thought I was a bad idea but I loved it!! I bought the DVD of our play -3

  • -goosebumps all over- I miss this soooo much! My tape of it is almost shot to hell....I really need to find this on DVD.

  • Actually i just noticed this. Rum Tum Tugger is on the trunk to the right of the screen, but Munkustrap is in the arch way to the left of the screen, it's funny cause i heard somewhere that the two of them are brothers, and it's like Old Duetreonomy has both hsi sons standing by him for the finish. I don't know why i pointed this out, i just thought it was cool.

  • shivers all over.

  • Ken Page for those who dont know is the voice of Oogie Boogie in Nightmare before Christmas.

  • what does "Ad-dressing" mean? no translator will give me a good result.

  • ken page is such an incredible talent

  • If you think about it this is a life lesson "Don't judge ppl by how they act or how they look" "Get to know them and earn their trust"

  • Can anyone figure out who is dancing on the steps to the left of Old Deut? To me it makes sense if it was Munk, but isn't he in the front?

  • @Elriaen it's rum tum tugger

and in some show they have munk on the right(the place where tugger sings his parts in old deuteronomy)

  • @prhdb94 Lol, I meant on the opposite side to tugger, I could recognise that huge lion mane anywhere!

You think is it Munk over there then?

  • @Elriaen yeah i think it is cause you can see him at 00.33 - 00.42 and at the start you can see him move up there

  • In real life Im not keen on cats but I love jellical cats

  • @nurz33 all cats are jellical cats :-3

  • Well of course cats aren't dogs.

  • @juzzylime94 and @Ariandrise Its based off T.S. Eliots poems "Old possums book of Practical Cats" he wrote the poems for his godchildren as presents then years later Andrew Llyod webber adapted them into film

  • the alto part is sooooooooo hard

  • I wounder what the inspiration of Cats was, its not every day you wake up and say to yourself 'im gonna create a production about cats, with singing, tap dancing and all the cats will confuses fans about who is related to who'. ;)

  • @juzzylime94 He based it off of a book, i dont remember the name of it

  • The inspiration, I believe, was 'Old Possum's Book of Practical Cats' by T.S. Eliot. I read it before I seen this it is very good, as is this of course. :) @juzzylime94

  • @juzzylime94 It was T. S. Elliot's book! :) (Then again, what inspired him...?)

  • @juzzylime94 It is taken from a collections of poems by TS Eliot called "Old Possum's Book of Practical Cats." Readit and you'll find the poems and the songs in this musical are almost word for word.

  • @pikabununify Still, it's interesting that the roles of the particular cats are invented for the show- Deuteronomy as the leader, for example, or all the cats that never had a poem but have defined characters like Munkustrap or Bombalurina. I'd like to see what the creative process for the show was and how they fashioned a full show out of the poem book.

  • @VRNProductions The characters of certain cats are invented by the show, for sure. But Munkustrap and Bombalurina's names are also straight from the poems as well. There isn't one name in here that wasn't first used in the poems.

  • @VRNProductions Oops. Right after I typed that, I remembered Grisabella's name wasn't in the original poems. Her character was already outlined, but not named.

  • @pikabununify Yes, I know- they're all named in "The Naming of Cats" (Though Jemima and most of the minor cats are missing from that alltogether). My intent was that they pulled the names of several random cats in the poem and made defined characters out of them rather than just sticking to the cats that had poems for themselves.

  • @juzzylime94 It's based on a book by T.S. Eliot ("Old Possum’s Book of Practical Cats"), as a matter of fact the lyrics are almost 100% the same. Apparently Andrew Lloyd Webber read it as a kid, loved it and decided to create some music around the poems. :D

  • @juzzylime94 the inspiration was T. S. Eliot's small collection of poems called Old Possum's Book of Practical Cats :)

  • @juzzylime94 The same guy that came up with the Phantom. Very creative mind. I have tried to get my cat to tap dance. He won't do it. LOL

  • @juzzylime94 it was inspired my poems written by T.S. Eliot, most of the songs are his poems but with music :)

  • @juzzylime94

The inspiration for the musical "Cats" was taken from T.S. Eliot's book "The Old Possum's Book of Practical Cats."

As for T.S. Eliot, I believe he wrote it as a book to read to his daughter or something along those lines. I know the word "pollicle" came from his niece's(?) attempt to say silly puppy. At least that is how it is reported

  • @juzzylime94 Actually Cats was created using poems from a book by T.S. Eliot called Old Possum's Book of Practical Cats. Andrew Lloyd Webber just added music and lyrics and Gillian Lynn added her amazing choreography to them.

  • I seriously want this musical to return to london/somewhere in england where I can see it. These videos have made me a definite fan.

  • @Asperger1993 It's supposedly being revived on London in 2013. Google it.

  • everything to increase their fan base and make money is a SELL OUT. Learn the term.

  • Omg this play was amazing! I cried so much during Memory and I love the costumes! Whats wrong with ppl these days that they dont have this kind of imagination anymore? All ppl like or listen to today is garbage!

  • Theatergasm @ 4:30

  • Who is that @ 0:44?

  • @cuteygirl0831 Old Deuteronomy...I'm ashamed to say I don't know the actor's name but you can search that easily.

  • @urbanninjaknight

    I think I meant 0:43, and I think it's Plato...no?

  • @cuteygirl0831 The cat at 0:43 is Plato :)

  • @rumbleroarsniece the cat at0:49 is coricopat

  • wait so if a cat has a coler then it has a owner most of them have collors soooo they snck out too go to the ball! XD

  • Tugger is stil stand on the car :D

  • ummm.... did anyone else think that ken page is related to the cowardly lion in the wizard of oz?? because they sound A LOT alike ... :@

  • 5 people seem to have got their cats and dogs mixed up, me thinks. lol.

  • Oddly enough, Etcetera's mannerisms do remind me a bit of a dog... On another note, Ken Page's operatic singing voice is Epic, Epic I say, EPIC!

  • How come Tugger has to be all the way in the back? He should be front row where he's seen!

  • i LOVE this musical :)

  • sooo a cat is not a dog got it!

  • Cool, if not a trifle batty!"

  • I treat my cat like my baby. He's always curling up next to me, begging to be pet, and I call him Baby instead of his name (Nuri). He really is my best friend. :)

  • i LOVE that shot of Alonzo at 0:11

  • I love that they made this production. Look at all the glorious makeup work we get to see here.

  • I want all of them as pets :D

  • aw, it's over? D'8

  • Thumbs up if you think its funny that Old Deuteronomy is Oogie Boogie.

  • @CosplayCore You are right. Ken Page played both : Oogie Boogie and Old Deuternomy.

  • just cant help but play this song over an over!

  • i call my cat Zippy, baby, all the time so much so that he thinks it's his second name lol :)

  • Why is it whenever I watch this particular song I cry...?

  • @thebradybunchlover Good question, I'm losing it right now. LOL.

  • @thebradybunchlover same here

  • @thebradybunchlover Because you like cats ...?

  • @thebradybunchlover Because it means that the musical is coming to a close, perhaps?

  • This song is so hard if ur soprano 1... Haha

  • Imma be a cat when I grow up

  • I have a few faves from this musical, but I think this tops them. Love it!

  • i've been raised listenin to pop culture music( lady Gaga, Madonna, Michael Jackon) but the nusic in this musical is by far my favorite!

  • @randomeskittlez1

I've been raised with all kinds of music- country, pop, surfer, rocker, gothic, techno, classical, etc. I love them all, but I seem to really enjoy musicals and this one is my FAVORITE. <3 I cry now when I go see it at the theater because I feel so happy just to see those singing, dancing kitties crawl onto the stage. :)

  • My friend did this song, he's really good: watch?v=K5AnMBI-JGE&feature=related

  • @drummer392 No he's not

  • @Xfactories ha nice

  • Comment removed

  • @drummer392 No worries. Honesty is always best.

  • this song gives me chills...the only song in cats that gives me chills its an amazing number

  • at 0:09 - 0:12 Jason Gardiner (Alonzo) has gorgeous eyes I just about die every time I see those amazing blue/green eyes, and at 0:43 - 0:44 Bryn Walters (Plato) looks so sweet and sensitive that its hard to believe he also plays Macavity.

  • 4:33 That has to be the most epic bow ever. Ever.

  • 0:44 - Plato!

  • I love Cats, but this song is so utterly anticlimactic. I really wish they'd just chop it off the end.

  • I just watched all of the scenes for this. In one sitting. I had forgotten how my I LOVE this musical. My 6 year old is watching this. TODAY. As soon as she gets home from school! This is too good NOT to share.

  • When I first saw this video I thought, slow finale song BORING! But, having been a huge Cats fan for almost six years, this is one of the best finale songs ever!

  • I always had trouble addressing cats. They would never stay still long enough for me to mark them with a felt tip marker.

  • You Tell 'um Old D!

  • Holy gracamoly! Old Deuteronomy knows how to sing!!!

  • One of my favourite songs of CATS =D

  • MAN! Old Deuteronomy has some pipes!

  • Chills, simply perfection!

  • I was lucky enough to play Old Deuteronomy and it was life changing to me. This role is magical. This musical is amazing.

  • A funny thing is that Ken Page (Deuteronomy) makes the voice for Oogie Boogie Man in the film A nightmare before christmas

  • seeing Bomba smiling makes my heart melt sighs

  • FACT: Byrn walters plays Macavity. AND he plays Plato. tah dah.

  • no mr quaxo mistofolees is the best cat

  • who is that cat at 0:43 ?? i mean the name, i really know every name but this one not :D

is not even in the credits

  • @utgott

    Plato.

A lot of ppl think he's not in the credits because the actor also plays Macavity.

  • @utgott

    ...Plato...

Or do you mean actor??? Cuz idk the actor but the actor is the same as the one that plays Macavity--and HE'S in the credits.

  • So...Old D's voice sounds a lot like the cowardly lion's, no??

  • @Laitie It's the same actor.

  • Comment removed

  • @skellingtonsally

The (white) actor that played the 1939 Cowardly Lion in the Wizard of Oz died in '69... >.<. :(

  • @Laitie OMG Not the ORIGINAL of course! I mean the stage version. No way anyone who acted in 1939 would be fit enough to act anymore! XD

  • @skellingtonsally

LOL! Thank God, I was so confused. Haha, I've never even heard about the stage version >.<. i was talking about the movie. Guess they chose the right actor for the stage version, then, huh? Lolz. That's awesome!

  • @Laitie Yes it is. Superb casting. LOL Sorry about the confusion, but wow, imagine someone from 1939 singing like HE does in this video. Ö_Ö!!

  • @skellingtonsally

Indeed. Lol np. Ikr???? But I listen to this song, close my eyes and hear "If I...were king...of the forrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrest" lol. Same exact voice, I swear. How weird lol.

  • @Laitie LOOOL No way, Ken Page sounds so much better than that did XD But the resemblance is there.....

  • a cat is not a dog!

  • @MsDariella

    sure? :D

  • @LadyKeksify i'm just quoting old deuteronomy!

  • I almost always cry here, its so beautiful!

  • I'd like to point out that Justin Biebers (i hate to say his name on this web page because he is no way worthy) baby video has about 420 million views. This video ahs almost 85,000. It scares me how few people have ever heard of or don't like good music like this. Have Mozart, Beethoven, and all the great musical authors from all different styles of music expressed their art to us in the past just so we could end up with people like hannah montana and lady gaga? I dont think so.

  • @Z3kedog pls dont include lady gaga

  • @Z3kedog I sooo agree with you. Why can't music like this be in this era?!?!?!?

  • @Z3kedog i totally agree, i am only 13 so of the younger generation, and i still think that true musical talent, like that of this musical, is extremely rare today, and it is extremely unfair that sad excuses for musicians, like justin bieber or lady gaga, have so many fans, yet very few people have even heard of cats, this play is true musical talent at its best

  • @Z3kedog I think so too. At the casting-shows on TV or at Justin Bieber there applaud the people if they holding a note but here?? Or at the opera singers. I find that very sad.

Sorry for my bad english! I am German.

  • @jannibanniful im glad theres still a lot of people in the world who can appreciate good music

  • @Z3kedog Good music? Cats was the single worst thing to ever happen to broadway. Just because people say it has importance doesn't mean it's important.

  • @bokkreviewing Im not going to honor your comment with an argument. Try and back up what you said with a fact.

  • @Z3kedog The only basis I need for that is watching this train wreck of a play thank you very much. And how about you stuff the holier than though attitude. People like different things than you doesn't make you somehow more enlightened or mean you have better taste. It means you like different things that other people. And The word is Composer, not author. Also very nice how your enlightened self mentioned the two most commonly known composers. And enough with the Justin Bieber comments.

  • @bokkreviewing have you ever read the book fahrenheit 451? I dont like hannah montana, i dont like justin beiber, and i dont like lady gaga, which is what i put in my comment. Far as i can see people here agree with me. Also theres a reason the two composers i mentioned are the two most commonly known.

  • @Z3kedog Oh yeah, people agree with you in the comments section of a video most people wouldn't bother looking up unless they liked the music in the video. So that totally validates all of your half assed arguments for this being superior to music that somehow differentiates from what you consider to be good -sarcasm- Take your preschool attitude back to where it belongs Mr if they don't like my musical they must be incapable of critical thought and just do what they are told.

  • @bokkreviewing Did you look up this video just to rip on someone? And have you ever read the book fahrenheit 451? if not u should. You're the one making the half assed arguments you have yet to include a statistic in your stupid rambling and have done nothing, but take what I say out context. Where did I write people who didn't like what i like are incapable of critical thought? I understand that im entitled to my opinion and other people have theres. My opinion just happens to be hannah montana

  • @bokkreviewing "People like different things than you doesn't make you somehow more enlightened or mean you have better taste. It means you like different things that other people."

That's what you wrote, correct? BUT you seem extremely hypocritical in doing so with your rather callous remarks to whats-his-youtube-name, and not even bothering to listen to the rest of us. You want us to respect your opinion? Why don't you start by taking your own advice and respecting ours.

    PS-I love this play.

  • @TalesofGirl4ever Why the fuck would you comment on someone's comment from two months ago?

  • @Z3kedog Cause seriously. His fan base is 14 year old girls. What do you expect him to sing about? The musical genre hasn't gone to bad places. Most popular song from the sixties was sugar sugar by the archies. People aren't always looking for deep meaning in their music, they're just looking for something catchy. Now what did we learn today youtube snob?

  • @bokkreviewing Youtube snob?? maybe you should look in the mirror. Why would you visit a video that you dont even like, oh ya probably because you have nothing better to do than start internet arguments. Also dont take the fact that people dont always look for deep meaning in their music just because that may be true in a lot of cases you should probably check the statistics. Cats was the longest running musical on broadway ever.

  • @bokkreviewing and justin beiber are very poor artists. And if it isn't the autotuning they used, and lack of writing their own songs, its just the lack of talent. why dont you go look up JBs babe video. Last i checked theres more dislikes than likes. The public has spoken. Oh ya and you brought up how his fan base is 14 year old girls and what should his songs be about because of that. Artists don't adjust to there fans, sure they might take a request every now and then but an artist that does

  • Best play ever made.

  • Im a guy and trustfully i count hold the tears on alot of these songs specially this one =]

  • This song is equal to Memory in my book

  • 0:44 the most ugliest cat i've ever seen xD

  • I was so enthused by this when I was younger, just because of the title; now I realise this whole thing is just Andrew Lloyd Webber jumbling together a bunch of T.S. Elliot poems and turning them into songs, trying to create a play. The music is fabulous, the songs/poems memorable, the costumes amazingly done...but the one thing this play lacks is PLOT!!!!

  • @cancanwench

Hmm,.. i mean the Plot is that Old Deuteonimo is picking one cat which going up and become a new life. At the first there are cats who interduce orhers or themselfs, there is grizabella which got exclaimed at the end she get picked up and start a new cat life, i like it, the music the text everything beautiful :)

  • @cancanwench

I like it that the small plot points this play has here and there makes them all that more important.

  • @cancanwench maybe you should watch the whole thing again and actually listen to what the people are saying as they sing.

  • woah you can see tumble's ribs the whole time :O poor guy

why does victoria make that face at 0:17 ?!!

  • Cats the musical has the best opening number and closing number. Quality =)

  • @MrMusicalMad

I can't say much about this song because I have heard it only 2 times but Jellicle Songs For Jellicle Cats is awesome opener.

  • i like cat

  • My dad worked at Cats for 18 years. I used to always watch it when I was little and this song always meant it was time to go home. memories.....

  • @pokeher26 Was he in the cast or the crew? Or both?

  • I have to say this isn't my most favourite song in the musical, but it is the most amazing, emotional, brilliant and heartbreaking show I have ever seen and ever will again! No one seems to know this, but The point of the heavyside layer is not that cats are going to die and go to heaven. They are going to be spirited into a completely new life, just like some people believe in re-incarnation! I would understand completely if this is what cats really went through in their lives! ^_^

  • @Ragdoll2O1O Or their owners let them out for the night, as some still do.

  • LOL!!! ^.^ no duh deutoronomy... CATS ARE NOT DOGS. welcome to the obvious.

  • I think what he means is that dogs you would just address with out really thinking,

where as a cat is a creature much like a human, with pride, dignity, and personality.

That's what i think it means. EPIC

  • @Zandofle No I think what he means is that you don't address a dog the same as a cat. Normally people address dogs without thinking about it but they always think twice before addressing a cat because most people are afraid that they'l hurt them.

  • what happens to gez? dose she like become a kitten or somthing sorry for my ingnorance lolz been a long time

  • @Avalonshadowfang you mean Grizabella? i think the end is a metaphor for her dying and going to heaven

  • @Lillian2167 ah thakn you

  • he reminds me of the lion in the wizard of oz :P
