just watching Andy play makes me a better player I think. I hope i could be half as good as him. i cant believe how accurate that whole solo was, even the fast part. Jesus Christ! haha
@PatInChainsxx7 Just recently I watched a few tutorials from Andy and the next day when I played my warm up licks I could sware I was playing them better than ever before. You can't learn everything just by seeing it, but sometimes seeing something done right seems to help.
I'm sorry, but Synyster is good, but there are HUNDREDS of guitarists who would just destroy him. Andy James is among some of the best players out there. Synyster isn't even on that playing field.
@emptysoul189 You didn't just say that Gates is more technical than James did you? You clearly come from a world where the word Technical means something else.
Everything happens only a certain number of times, and a very small number really. How many more times will you remember a certain afternoon of your childhood, an afternoon that is so deeply a part of your being that you can't even conceive of your life without it? Perhaps four, or five times more? Perhaps not even that. How many more times will you watch the full moon rise? Perhaps twenty. And yet it all seems limitless ...
@joshua9312 wow ur fucking stupid man, u think this guy is better then synyster? lol sorry whos in a rly popular metal band? even tho popularity doesn't have deal with this but synyster is way more technical. if ur gona compare this guy to him ur fucking stupid
@emptysoul189 Come on man does it really matter who is 'better'? Both are excellent and very different guitarists in their own right. As a matter of preference I personally think Andy is the more skilled of the two players when it comes to all round technique, but I prefer Synyster's feel and his soloing 'voice'.
@emptysoul189 Synyster is on a whole level -below- Andy. Andy eats fucking Syn's solos for breakfast. He can actually play them without getting sloppy. Check out his "Learn to Play Avenged Sevenfold" Series from Lick Library. Brian can't play his solos live without fucking up, Andy can.
@joshua9312 It's not even a matter of opinion, it's fact. I've watched all of A7X's live recordings, San Diego and Live in the LBC. Syn's got some ability, yeah, but he's got nothing on Andy. Whole 'nother level.
Seriously.. You are comparing 2 different players in different situations? First of all, that DVD was recorded with Andy sitting comfortably in a chair. Brian plays his stuff live, in front of hundreds or thousands of fans.
"Brian can't play his solos live without fucking up, Andy can. " I don't think, that Andy plays A7X stuff live. He plays his own songs.
@havelant You're missing the point entirely. There's very few situations where Andy fucks up live, his own songs or not. Syn however does. Technically, Andy his a much cleaner player. It's not an argument of opinion, it's a statement of fact. Andy plays live and rocks out just as much as Syn does with his band SMT, but he doesn't fuck up anything, and their songs are technically more challenging. This coming from a fan of Avenged.
@havelant Check out andy james's lick library video on avenged sevenfold..he plays Brians solos cleaner in one run through than Brian did in the studio with all his pro tools and presumably broken down into chunks recordings... Andys's version of afterlife is perfect, the sweeps are SO much cleaner than in the original.
@joshua9312 that's not even a great comparison maybe steve vai vs andy, or tosin abasi vs andy, but synyster gates! please I can name 100 better guitarist. The guy can't even sweep pick for fucks sake
@joshua9312 Tbh I am unsure. Syn may not be as clean but again he is very good at writing songs and fantastic at writing solos... And his imperfections are what brings feel to his music...
@joshua9312 lol when are people gonna grow up and stop compulsively comparing guitar players? Its childish and also demonstrates a poor understanding of what playing music is REALLY all about.
@1madaboutguitar Look, Metal is a genre that revolves mostly around speed and most importantly accuracy. Im not hitting on eitiher guitarist for their creative talent. What Im saying is, that Andy is the more accurate player. You can hear it when he covered Avenged Sevenfold's Afterlife. Its a fact. Well, it can change if Syn starts practicing harder. Lol.

@havelant essentially Andy could eaaasily play anything brian could but I seriously seriously doubt brian could play much of andys's stuff.

@emptysoul189 wouldn't really call a7x metal at all really. Biggest sell outs of all time is more like it.

@joshua9312 Synyster Gates is complete horseshit in the first place, so to even compare the two is disgraceful to andy.
