@anglerfly It was Grumby or something like that. I think it was heard over their radio, he was wanted for some crime back home, or related to the USSMinnow.
Such good memories I have of this show. and t's nice after 40 odd years to finally get to know a little about the people behind the characters of Gilligan's Island.
They say that Alan Hale, Jr. was the nicest guy. Everyone who worked on the show reportedly talk about how he treated everyone with respect and was always laughing and keeping morale up.
Alan Hale, Jr. (the Skipper) looks and sounds just like his dad! Go catch some of his father's work in those old Warner Bros. movies from the 40s. So much resemblance in physical features and voice. Some really jolly family!
@roadmonitoroz I don't know if anybody answered your question from a month ago about Gilligan's Island, but yes, they did do a special episode where they all got rescued. I believe it was in 1982 or 1983. They all got rescued and rejoined society but for some reason they all went back to the island and got stranded again.
@roadmonitoroz "Rescue From Gilligan's Island." A different actress played Ginger. At the end of the movie, they went out for a celebration of sorts on the SS Minnow II and again got ship wrecked on the same island. Their was at least another movie - maybe 2. I think 2 more. 1 where they get rescued again and one where the Harlem Globetrotters has to play some silly game there. That's what I recall. Maybe try Wikipedia to confirm.
@roadmonitoroz Just watched the 1st pt and yes - there were 3 movies. I think Jim Backus (Mr. Howell) passed away either after the 1st reunion or the 2nd. They had some guy playing his son on the last one.
Ross Shafer? R.I.P Bob Denver. I think it's cool that he never hated the character that made him famous--the way a lot of actors do. He even wore the hat.
Thank you so much for posting, so nice to see the cast together again. I grew up with GILLIGAN'S ISLAND, and when Russell Johnson came to town, I was able to tape the event for my public access TV show (SEE: russell johnson book signing). He was so kind and it was a thrill to meet him. Watching this clip was so enjoyable, thank you again for posting.
Ok, I'll say it , Ross Shafer looks like a parody from a character made by Joe Piscopo. If you dont know who Joe Piscopo is I'm old as Hell. Thanks Alot.
I'm feeling old, 1988 Gilligan was all gray haired and it's 2011. We'll sonny I remember coming home from school and watching reruns in the 70's. Holy #(*%, WTF. Where has the time gone?
@YeahOkTerrific When your 60, 1 year is 1/60 of your life, when your 5, 1 month is 1/60 of your life, exactly equal to the year when your 60. So time really is going by faster when you get older.
Joan Rivers was the original host of the Fox late show. Joan Rivers was fired after the ratings sagged and there were problems behind the scenes. Arsenio Hall was eventually hired as a replacement. The late show was to be cancelled but after the show rebounded because of Arsenio Fox changed its mind wanted to keep him. Arsenio Hall had already commited to other projects was unable to do the Late Show. Ross Shaffer was hired to replace Arsenio. Arsenio eventually got his own show.
If you've ever seen the movie Robin Hood with Errol Flynn, the guy who played LIttle John was Alan Hale Sr. You can see the resemblence very clearly and the way they laugh and react is exactly the same.
Ross Shafer was a Seattle TV personality, known for a very funny local comedy show called Almost Live. That show often deserved to be seen by a wider audience, though it was actually better after Ross Shafer left. It was also a very early gig for Joel McHale of "community".
He could make a molecular acting additive but couldn't fix a hole in the boat, the hell with the Professor, the skipper was the one to blame for no boat.
I don't remember Ross Shafer but I do remember seeing this. It was so great to finally see all of them together again. Used to watch the episodes when it first aired as a kid when I was trying to learn English, my favorites being with a Japanese sailor. Still a fan. XD
Excellent. I remember watching this when it aired so long ago. Who can forget Jim and Tammy Faye? What pair of ripoff artists. Thanks so much for posting this though. I loved Gilligan's Island and this is the final time every cast member was together after the show ended. Great seeing them all again.
Someone needs to invent a time machine and tell the dudes from G.I. that the "stupid dumbass meaningless funny shit" they did in 1966 would continue kicking ass until 2010 and beyond.
Nailed me: I just came home from school, grabbed glass of milk and graham crackers ... and just laughed and enjoyed. Great wholesome entertainment! This just made me smile!
Hale Jr. and Denver were great together, like an old-time vaudeville show. It's one of the reasons they were so appealing to me when I was a kid. And so was the rest of the cast. No, it wasn't high class or thought-provoking, but it was funny and silly and guaranteed to make a kid laugh. What more could anyone ask?
for some reason i remember another gilligan's island cast reunion back in early 1982...i just remember bob denver and alan hale jr wisecracking about the ideas behind the series...
Who the devil is Ross Shafer? I've never heard of the idiot. Oh and he is totally unfunny. Bob will always be Maynard G Krebbs to me. I don't know why but I knew Gilligan was his family name. Sherwood was a vey hard task master but he knew how to make this show work. I remember Robert Reed said he had a few contretemps with him on the set of the The Brady Bunch. Alan Hale was a real trouper. The look on Alan's face when he hits that tree, just priceless.

lissybliss - The Late Show was originally hosted by Joan Rivers. The show wasn't a hit & Rivers eventually left. There were guest hosts, and Ross S was one of them. This is the ONLY *full* cast reunion ever. The show episode here is not on the DVD set of Gilligan's Island because Fox wanted too much money for it. @cuttock - why do you go out of your way to be nasty & rude aboyt people from an earler deacde?! That was s style then. I would object more to the stupid, lame excuse for 'shorts' today- all the way to the knees. That costs more for the company, keeps more heat/seat in summertime, & baggy pants now look like potato sacks. Not complimentary to those with good builds at all. Then I've seen kids with their 'shorts' 1/2 way down their butts & boxers. Charming. Hope the style changes.
@harry4health I'm gonna beat the living shit out of you in the lunchroom. You probably still wear those butt fucking shmugly clothes....you and your ZAP hats and monkey jumpers. Fuck you.
@Kaffyboy - GREAT show! A movie IS coming out. However, I have read it's going to be polluted by the typical liberal Hollywood propaganda on their sexualizing, etc. Can't let a classic remake stay open to all, instead of wanting to push sex for money. I hope it doesn't, but not surprised it is adding unneeded sexual stuff to it.
That's the most absurd thing I've ever heard, there are no plans for a Gilligan's Island movie! Do you know how absolutely stupid that would be? As far as I'm concerned it's horrendous gossip. Trust me this will never make it through. Perhaps ten years ago, they used to play it on tv a lot more, also films of tv shows were popular then. Now though? I don't expect it to get through the studio executives.
At timer 4:22 to 4:27; Gilligan [Bob Denver] said my hair is kind of white now; But that say oh it probably figured it happened in the island now and Im going back to have it fixed. This is funny as Season 3 Episode 8 called Gilligans Island Hair Today , Gone Tomorrow that actually did have Gilligans hair turn white as result of a island made bleach.
Actually I think Ginger and Maryann are still alive. I know Maryann is. Now the tough one, who's hotter, Ginger or Maryann, most people felt Maryann was, I always thought so, I think the show did too given the short shorts and tied up top.
A truly great comedy team. Much loved, obviously. Is it just me, or does anyone else see Stan Laurel and Oliver Hardy in these two guys?

This reunion show is as far in the past from today (22 years) as the original series was from when this taped. Time flies...

@ShtemeTeamBrad What?

Common now, you might feel nostalgic but there are many great shows now. I'm addicted to Fringe now.

To the last posters. Why don't you guys go and find a page that you can enjoy, instead of pissing on someone elses. Gilligan's Isand is awesome.

Bob Denver and Dawn Wells, Russel Johnson and Tina Luis are still with us.
Dawn lives up the road from me in Morrow Bay.
Natalie Shaffer, Jim Backus and Alan Hale jr.....have passed on.
Now you know.

Actually I think Ginger and Maryann are still alive. I know Maryann is. Now the tough one, who's hotter, Ginger or Maryann, most people felt Maryann was, I always thought so, I think the show did too given the short shorts and tied up top.
