The main reason the song sounds like it is about the Eldar is because 40k is based on Warhammer Fantasy which is sort of like a revisioning of Middle Earth.

@sargentnoob No, the eldar are from the lord of the rings, they are the first race of elves, by the time of the books the only eldar left are arwen, elrond, his two sons and galadriel

@mustallica1 Well, the Eldar at first referred to all elves, but later only applied to those that began the Great Journey. The term encompasses all of the Vanyar, Noldor and Teleri kindreds. So, aside from those elves you mentioned, there were also Eldar of the Sindar race remaining in Middle Earth - decendents of Teleri who turned back from the Great Journey. These include Celeborn and Thranduil. :)

I sincerely doubt any site would get the parentage of Elrond wrong,I mean... Eärendil is kinda -not- easy to miss.:) Beren and Lúthien had Dior. Dior married a maiden from Doriath named Nimloth and together they bore Elwing.She wedded Eärendil the Mariner,who was a son of Tuor and Idril of Gondolin.Together they had two sons - Elrond and Elros.That's what makes Arwen and Aragorn so special - they are the third only couple in history where the blood of Men and Elves mingled and both (...cont...)

@jouzinka Sorry for commenting old post, but I have to say that there is a fourth situation in which the bloodlines of elves and men got mixed up. I mean the lords of Dol Amroth. In the Return of the King, Legolas says that Prince Imrahil has elven blood. In Unfinished Tales this is explained by telling that elven lady Mithrellas had two children with Imrazor who was lord of those Numenórian havens which soon after became known as Havens of Amroth.

For those of you who don't know about this but there is a wiki site for the CD Nightfall in Middle-Earth that gives song meanings...in rough. I think the band page does too. Anyway, King Finrod...thank you for saving Beren so him and Luthien could have Elrond and his brother. I'm sorry you had to say good bye to your people.

@12northstar13 Yeah, well... this early in M-E history it was more like a rock-brick action for everyone and oftentimes you can come to a common ancestor in a given couple.It's like saying Arwen is Finwë's daughter, because you *can* trace that particular line through her mother (Celebrían -> Galadriel -> Finarfin -> Finwë) AND through her paternal grandfather (Eärendil -> Idril -> Turgon -> Fingolfin -> Finwë).But no problem, I got what you wanted to say, though the phrasing wasn't the best.=;)

I think this is the closest Blind Guardian will ever come to Queen. The background voices, the voice Hansi applied, the soft piano, everything screams Queen influence.

It's also a really beautiful song that ends on a very mournful tone.

Nóm is name given to Finrod by Beor's and his ppl, and the Eldars song is a lament i guess to his ppl that he is leaving them, i cant see it being anyone else since Nom the wise (the song)doesnt have anything to do with When sorrow sang! thats about Beren's love for Lúthien and his own fate at the teeth of Carcharoth.
