  • Yes! Yes! Yes! Ace!

  • @Tonypunisher1986 Thanks so much!

  • ...Yes! Yes!

  • this is great man, cant believe theres not more comments on it. what tuning is that in?

  • @latenightcreep18 Yeah, I, uh, guess I didn't realize I had comment moderation turned on. Looks like Ive got quite a backlog... oops...

I play in open G (DGDGBD).

  • did you also sell your soul to the devil? :P keep rockin bud.

  • @dannybrains Nope, not my soul, just my love life.

  • Out-fucking-standing!

  • @ArdillaGilmour A belated thanks for the kind words, glad you liked!

    such a perfecktion.

    Great thanks from Germany

    Your Big Fan

    Otti.

  • @Heincorry1 Thanks - compliments like this make my day (even if I don't catch them until much too late - sorry.)

  • Excelent, very much! You feel this music. Greeting from Poland - Bogdan :)

  • @SuperUrlop Thanks, greetings back from San Francisco (and a year later, sorry :-> )

  • I like the way you play the blues. Good combination of feeling and flash. Some of your other videos (like "Wish I Was Jimmy Page") remind me of some of the old blues guys who didn't always play straight 12-bar. For example, sometimes it seems like they'll stay on the IV chord for as long as it takes to finish their thought before going back to the I chord. Some guys play the blues too crisp, clean, perfect. I like it like this. Keep it up!

  • @erk11 Thanks, nice to hear from someone who gets what I'm into. Although actually I picked up the loose meter more from listening to solo Syd Barrett than the blues. But either way, I figure, you say your piece, you know? You don't let anyone tell you how you're "supposed" to do it.

  • Wow, that's really good! There's so much personality in that rendition. I think it's great that you use your mood to decide what song you want to play rather than just playing to impress. That's how the blues is supposed to be played!

  • @Burntickle Thanks so much. Yeah, for me, it's just throwing up a camera while I do what I always do, which is to play alone in my room for my own enjoyment. I will confess, though, that often my posted videos are the best of several (occasionally many) takes so it's not all ego-free.

  • I don't know Johnson that well but got the Complete collection and this song was my instant favourite. Really enjoyed this different version and it's the first cover I've ever heard of the song.

(Should it really be tagged as a lesson, though?)

  • @BlackAngusYoung You're right... way back when I started, I was desperate for views so I, uh, engaged in some unscrupulous tagging. At least its not as bad as when I tagged a video "britney spears naked". I should fix that...

You should check out Blind Willie Johnson (no relation) as well... he's awesome.

  • GOOD technique!!

  • @AHMEDPUNK13 Thanks for saying so, glad you liked!

  • You play those Blues the way I want to play them - with soul. Love it.

  • @branduusituuli Thanks... all you gotta do is keep at it. (Although honestly, I don't play them the way I want to, either... I don't think anyone really does. All you can do is keep trying.)

  • gotta admit, I haven't heard blues like this in years. It's great to hear some one get back to what the Original blues was all about. Very Very fine job. Keep it up.

  • Man you HAVE to giv me a link to guitar tabs for this, its the dopest song ive heard in a while/.

  • @dannybrains Sorry for the very late reply, for the past year I didn't realize I had comment moderation on!

Can't tab this because the playing was improvised... your best bet is to try and pick it up by ear... sorry. Thanks for the kudos!

  • had to leave you a message.. very inspirational ... made my jaw clench and my lip twitch, especially on your vibratos.

  • Two great comments in a row... wow. Thanks dso much! This kind of feedback really makes my day.

  • Dude. Heard a lot of blues, and nothing much moves me these days, but that one did. Made me pick up my guitar. Thanks for posting it.

  • Wow, thanks, man, that's high praise! If I am inspiring other people to pick up their instruments, then I'm content that I'm doing something right in the world. Thanks so much for the comment.

  • Man, you are groovin' here. Proper blues I reckon. Nice one.

  • The question was in my head... but, "Can he moan the blue's; can he make that guitar sing?" Hot Damn, he can!!! Fav'd & 5 Star's!

  • You know it, bro ;-)

    Thanks!

  • Sounds GREAT:)

    :)

    Hilde

  • very nice!!

  • Thanks, glad you enjoyed!

  • love this slow style and the key was perfect for me to add Harmonica in D Major. I got some real kewl cross harp note bending exercise shufflin' along with you, Thanks for another killer jam. I'd dig doing some NINJAM sessions with you some day if not a jam IRL. You have the Blues embedded in your soul.

  • I may need to post a response with my cheap Hohner Hot Metal in D so you can hear what I'm saying. I tried jamming along in many other keys and the D Major Harp was easiest to line up and stay in key with. Maybe I should do a vid with the audio from this one as backing? If you would not mind me harpin' over your fine work?

  • Thanks, for this and all the other appreciative comments! You know, if you wanted to lay down some harp over this and post it as a "cyber-jam" I'd be into that. I can send you the original audio and/or video if you'd like.

  • That is my favourite version. I think you have a lot of soul, and you should be proud of your guitar playing. It is original and played with feeling. There is nothing more we can ask more..... except.... lol... How about a little lead playing in the higher octaves. Thanks man.. lord, I'm a voodoochile ..

  • Hey brother,

Whether it was your playing or my own short lived experiences I felt the emotion in the song big time, absolutely loved it.

Mr Robert Johnson would be proud of a cover of such caliber.

Just wish I could reproduce such pieces, I'm far more 'inprogress' than you!

    Keep playin friend.

  • Thanks, man, I don't know how I missed this comment when you first posted it. Wow, thanks for the high praise. If I can make somebody feel something, well, it's like a privilege to be able to do so. I'm just thrilled that we have youtube to share this stuff on, rather than sitting around my bedroom playing for no one but myself like I did for 20 years.

  • I just picked up my acoutic. I think you know the languge I be speakin'...

  • I think so, man, but post a response and we'll see! ;-)

  • quality quality quality. Wheres this intructional vid you promised.....?!?

  • Thanks thanks thanks!

Afraid it's gonna be a while on the instructional vid... life's gotten very busy.

  • i would give this 100 stars if they would let me...5 star...sweet ..i feel like drinking cheap wine and sleeping on a park bench now :)

  • LOL... thanks, man.

  • what are the chords? great song by the way

  • great performance!

  • you do justice to robert johnson. if you get a chance put up a me and the devil blues. and thanks for rockin my world.

  • I really liked this one!! I definitely got the bluesfeeling! Greetings from norway!

  • Great Tune, and you played it great, even better than the original in my opinion, so much feeling in the song, two thumbs up from me man.

  • Thanks again man! Glad you liked it!

  • Awesome groove on this one. Is it just me or is there some J.L. Hooker influence here?

What kind of guitar is that? is it a S&P by chance?

  • Thx. Might be some JLH in there, tough to avoid. You're not gonna believe this, but a lot of the groove comes from growing up on Pink Floyd, of all things. Compare this video to the song "Pigs" or the middle section in "Dogs" (near the 7 minute mark) on the album "Animals". Dave Gilmour was great at getting a spacious groove going, plus he used all kinds of little stabs & finger slides which ended up all over my playing. I can hardly get through an entire song without copping something from him.

  • (Although most of the time when I play I'm imagining Lightnin' Hopkins.)

Good eye on the guitar! Yes, it's my baby, my teacher, my friend, my secret lover, my Simon & Patrick cutaway. Fell in love at first sight with it in a shop last year one of those situations where you see a guitar in a shop and it just says to you, "Just so we're clear, you know I'm yours, right?"
