@ChrissyTopicsTV Me too! I had horrible heat damage from flat ironing. I was(am) natural for 12 years, but I transitioned out of my perm after my HS prom by flat ironing my hair all the time. Early last year I decided to stop using heat (after 12 years) and after 6 months I realized how heat damaged my hair had gotten. The new growth was a completely different texture than the rest of my hair. So I big chopped last October! I'm completely afraid to use heat now lol.

@Tiffakasia I should probably do the same and big chop. I had terrible heat and color damage and I haven't had a straightener since 1998. No length retention whatsoever and I have barely used heat in the past 5 years. Combing my hair in the shower when I wash is like getting a haircut. So much comes out!

@agirlnamedandy Yeah hon, you have to cut it again :( I was in the same boat when I first when natural 5 years ago. In that first year, I colored it and then two weeks later I flat ironed AND pressed it. There was so much breakage and some spots wouldn't grow at all. When I chopped it off all of my hair started growing back healthy and long again. I'm terrified to even blow dry it now lol. If your hair is anything like mine was chop it off and start over. Good luck :)

@pikachula21. no its not a staple i just use it because ive had it for 2 years now and its ceramic and tourmaline which supposed to be less damaging on the hair.i think the most important tool is your technique rather than the flat iron. as you saw in the video i used a denman d79 brush to hold my hair straight while i slid the flat iron down the shaft of my hair. This is called the chase method. If you do not keep the ends of your natural hair tought when you flat iron it will end up tangled

@sweetbee06. thanks. ii used to flat irons because one is a slim flat iron that can reach my roots and the othe is bigger for the length of my hair. I dont use the slim one on the length of my hair because for some reason i have noticed that the babyliss flat iron gives me a smoother sleeker, straighter finish. The temp was 230 degrees c the hightest.

@ebbonyTX. The heat setting i use on flat iron is 230 degrees celsius. thats the highest it goes. the blow dryer low heat for the length of hair and high with an afro attachment for the root because i have course hair.
