To OMetallica: I am surprised he didn't pick it like that from the beginning as far back as Machine Head -- his later stuff like Man on the Silver Mountain incorporated that "G" note in-between the 4ths and other stuff too, depending on what key he was playing in... Spotlight Kid and All Night Long is full of it -- good ears, OMetallica -- do you hear the pickup switching from lead to rhythm during his solos?
@TheGuitaz WHAT ???????? ARE YOU F@CKING SERIOUS ?????? no i won't be an ass and say that steve morse is bad but BETTER THE BLACKMORE ??? its obserd !!! ritchie on of the most creative guitarists in the world .... all morse does most of the time is sweap pick and play really fast !! that has nothing to do with who is better... for example : david gilmour , eric clapton , bb king , stevie ray vaughn are slow guitarists but still they are the best !!!
@TheGuitaz i personaly liked the dvd with Morse playing the classical but i to be honest i am a more of a blues and slow rock kind of person ... thats why i like blackmore so much .. he can play fast or slow but he is in my top 5 of best guitarists in the world
@uke1964 the only bad thing about that dvd (which i agree was great) was ian gillan .... i know , i know .. great voice great on stage performer but WHAT A JACKASS !!! hahahhahaha LOL
My first concert was Ritchie Blackmore's Rainbow, and it was 1977. He totally took the show playing for a full 2 hours and then finally on the last song lit his Strat on fire and smashed it into the stage & speakers. I was totally amazed! Hooked on Rock n Roll 4ever!
the older musicians marked the history, and nothing gonna change this, but todays we have great musicians, and they are trying to find your space on history too XD
If you only take filmed concerts, I don't remember much thats not in here^^ Only one show in Ostrava, Checoslovaquia 1991 with DP MK6, filmed by their TV (is here on youtube)...
But there are so much audio-recordings to compare......
Japan 1972, San Diego / London 1974, Paris / Graz etc 1975, Knebworth 1985, Nobody's Perfect (1987), Suttgart 1993 etc etc etc (forgot one? xD)
1982 (RAINBOW) - San Antonio "Live Between The Eyes" [this is "Maybe next time", a Rainbow song, he just played SotW after, they are not connected^^ there is no SotW-solo in this show, sadly.]
3rd:
1985 DP MK5 - Paris (german Rockpalast TVshow)
4th:
1993 DP MK7 - Birmingham "Come Hell Or High Water-DVD"
5th:
1995 (RAINBOW) - Düsseldorf (german Rockpalast TVshow) --> Intro = my personal favorite^^ great vid!
I love watching RB's versions through the ages..he gets better and better..from almost simplistic blues to bizarre blizzards of notes which are so far away from what any other player can play - such strange slides and legatos - and that magical vibrato
Just wanted to say ... Are we sick of people comparing the two..apart from the fact they mostly play white Strats and Blackers occasionally chucks in a bit of Bach or Beethoven. What's so similar about them except they're bothh bloody brilliant !?
The way to use the scales, the bending, the classical spirit, the acting, i studied both players for years...Blackmore is the father, Malmsteen the son.

he does not only sweep pick an play really fast, try listing to some of his music"highland wedding"
or "ice cakes" he is one of the most hard working guitarist in the world.
right now he is in Angelfire, Deep purple, Steve Morse Band, and he is working with Mark Portnoy too.
