@CHAOSin8bits its human once the sperm and the egg meetandthe human begins growing..its like saying an egg isnt a chick, in literature yes cuz egg and chick are two different things but inreality there the same thing its just growin
thats theway i see it. if u have different views thats fine i respect that
Tonight's curb (The Palestinian Chicken) reminds me so much of this great Seinfeld moment in the way it artfully and ingeniously tackles a delicate subject through an unlikely metaphor. LD is a genius.
i say it's a pizza once its out of the oven. You don't have dough, put sauce on it add cheese and pepperoni and go "Okay, time to eat!" Lol, just saying...
A cute scene, but as an abortion analogy it makes no sense. It's simply untrue, biologically speaking, to say that a baby is not human until it's born. A fetus in utero is still human, just a human at the earliest stage of development. Until/unless it is killed, it is alive, and all living things belong to some species/category. What is it before it's born, then? A cat? A dog? Argue that it should be fair game for abortion if you like, but to deny a fetus human status is just false.
@WestIndianAK You seem to have missed the point. The debate isn't whether or not a fetus is a human before it's born. The issue is at one point is the fetus considered a citizen and given it's own rights (essentially a protection from being aborted). Pro-choice advocates simply say it is the right of the mother to decide what to do; basically that the fetus is still a part of the mother until a much later stage in development when it becomes it's own entity- "when it comes out of the oven"
In regards to your "against abortion" phrase, I just want to make it clear that no one is PRO-abortion, or for abortion. Pro-CHOICE people believe that people should be able to have an abortion if that is the right decision for them, but no one is, by any means, rooting for it. Just because Kramer is able to put cucumbers on his pizza doesn't mean he thinks most should!
watching this as a kid the metaphor went right over my head

i agree with both of them you should make any type of pizza you want, but it is a pizza once u put all the toppings on.

@CHAOSin8bits That distinction would make "human" a function of the current state of medical technology.

If the pie contains your favorite topping, then it's a pizza. If the pizza guy screws up your order, then it's somebody else's free dinner!

I think this is one of the most brilliant scenes in the entire Seinfeld series. Papi is anti-choice and Kramer is pro-choice. Such a clever analogy!

@gnukev Yeah, and in this same episode, Elaine is having issues with an anti-choice boyfriend.

I know what you're talking about. I've seen this episode quite a few times and one day I was watching it and i realized the irony.
Kramer says it's not a pizza till it comes out of the oven, just like pro-choice people say the fetus is not life until birth.
Poppie debates that it's a pizza as soon as you put your fists in the dough, just like Pro-Life people say it's life at the moment of conception.
Very clever way to compare the two debates. I'm for Kramer and against abortion. LOL
