Wanna now something that is both funny and retarted at the same time? Isubscribed to reptile magazine, and along with the magazine there was a letter from national geographic asking me to suscribe to them!!!! We are fighting S373 and they are helping it become worse!!! And they exsect me to suscibe to them. WTF???????
ROFLMAO HERE!!!! It's called Politics my friend. This is what people do when they are trying to monopolize an entire group of people. Grab everyone they can and then sort them out type of reasoning. Still laughing that was funny as heck but totally not a surprise. AAahhhh Thank you SO much I laughed more on this comment than I have in a month was good for the soul. :O)
OPs, forgot a couple. They don't infest your house with fleas and they don't hump your leg or in the event you have guest over they don't try to hump their legs.
..And WTF is this shit vid about that I stumbled on?!? The timing of this couldn't be any further from coincidnce!! What they stream video in court now?
I didnt know you could get so many hands in an HSUS donation jar!!
It gets even better. I watch the live meetings between our president and the Republican party for questions and responses in the latest it appears those wonderful Lobbyist are losing their clout and power in administration maybe that has something to do with all this hostility? LOL
Yes, CJGill3, fuck us all! That's a wonderful argument! Were you on the debate team in HS? I bet you were!
All animals were wild once, so by your "logic" (like the quotes? haha), animals should not be kept by people, ever. And that position aligns your thoughts with radical and terrorist anti-pet organizations.
I have to say, your comment now means nothing in this argument due to your position. so, good day!
Like 1softkiss, I'm outta here unless an actual debate with some logic surfaces.
I'm don't insult people that prefer dogs or cats or any of God's creatures for that matter and I especially don't consider anyone DUMB or STUPID or IGNORANT for protecting and defending the animals they so choose to love and possess and be responsible for.. Because it's a snake doesn't give other people the privilege to consider us any less an intelligent person than anyone else is so Integrity was exactly the word I meant to use.
Snake of mythical proportions, all of you who are defnding the snake are morons, Nobody in this world can honestly say that they know how the mind of a serpent works and that they can justify size comparisson to themselves! Wow some people are dumb
1. Steadfast adherence to a strict moral or ethical code.
2. The state of being unimpaired; soundness.
3. The quality or condition of being whole or undivided; completeness.
Thought you could use the definition of integrity. Might wanna consider resarching the meaning of word that is outside of your vocabulary before you use it next time!!
Welp, on that note what about all the HUMANS running around shooting other people? What about humans that do drugs and get drunk and kill innocent people? Now, statistically how can any human consider a snake more of a threat in life to other people than they themselves are? Who is really the evil, Monsters in our societty?
It would take a snake of MYTHICAL proportions to swallow a human. Snakes don't generally waste time trying to kill something they can't eat.
Anyone think maybe this girl is lying about some facts? Maybe she got the snake out to cuddle in bed with her and somehow freaked the snake out. A jerky movement while dreaming? Who knows? Kids NEVER lie, right? Especially when caught in a bad situation!
Regardless, irresponsible ownership is at the core of this, not an evil, human eating snake!!! AHHHH!
She could possibly be lying, as she would have been 13 at the time of the attack and probably too large for a snake of that size to swallow. I agree that this is irrelevant, the fact remains that the snake got out proving either the stupidity or irresponsibility of the owners, or possibly both.
You're entitled to your opinion but people that own snakes and have for many years understand their body mechanics and know their everyday habits. Snakes aren't aggressive creatures, they only defend their lives and they do not go out searching for people to eat putting it as clearly as I can. I wouldn't expect someone that knows nothing about snakes to understand their behavior. (Not meant offensively)
Yeah you take a great risk owning a big animal like this or anything else huge even owning a damn monkey can be dangerous these people weren't careful and were irresponsible by having a disfunctional tank that always falls into the hands of irresponsible pet owners I wish the on;y persons that could have snakes were people that are responsible. RESPONSIBLE
PS. And if you have small children in the house DDDDUUUUUUUUUUUUUHHHHHHHHH Its not safe bonehead
The snake was NOT trying to eat that girl. That snake WOULD NOT have been looking for food unless the owners hadn't fed it in a year and if that was the case what happened would have been their responsibility, not the snakes because of their negligence.
For one if a snake approaches something with intentions of killing it to eat it, it will go for the head being the smallest part of anythings body. This snake started at the bottom and came up the girl, it never went for the head. Snakes can judge whether or not they can eat something based on size and her head being the smallest part of her body would have been the snakes target, not her feet or legs.
I have videos up on my YouTube channel of my cat that's eleven years old playing with my snakes and curled up together on my bed taking a sun bath. Now if a snake won't eat my cat why would it eat my children? Please, give me a break!!!!
true the owner is at fault he should have had a better set up for this snake i agree but the snake was constricting this poor girl so does that not mean it was hungry and trying to feed on her plz educate me on this i will admit if im wrong
A snake of that size could go for a year in captivity without eating. They can go all winter approximately six months and often do without eating during breeding season and they are in perfect health. Now, unless that guy hadn't fed that snake in over a year that snake would NOT have been out hunting for food it was looking for warmth. Snakes store their nutrients for winter and more or less hibernate. They are not vicious deprived starving creatures unless their owners NEVER feed them.
dogs have been domestcated over hundreds of years sure there are cases of them biting but atleast they give warning and dont hunt you down and try to eat you while your asleep in the bed
It's really difficult to educate people that are ignorant to facts. First of all a snake seeks warmth if it's enclosure is too cold. Many end up in people's beds seeking warmth I've even had a couple of my small Ball Pythons climb up onto my bed and get under the blanket with me if they are on my floor and get too cool. They don't hunt down people they try to avoid people generally. Why are you people blaming the snake? The owner wasn't housing it right so he was responsible, not the snake.
They display their own ignorance when they posted the video because it's not a Burmese Python that it shows the children holding and the enclosure itself??? Right even the worst of snake owners would never house their big snakes like that.
They tried to OVER emphasize how mean and vicious big snakes are and in the process made themselves look like total morons.
Welp, on that note what about all the HUMANS running around shooting other people? What about humans that do drugs and get drunk and kill innocent people? Now, statistically how can any human consider a snake more of a threat in life to other people than they themselves are?
I hate when channels like this make snakes look bad. This makes people think that all snakes are bad and they are not. They are just like dogs and cats only you have to be responsible enough to take care of it and not be stupid like the guy in the video. The cage should be locked
thank you for making this video and posting it....I never had a snake and thus never really considered the danger.....after seeing this....I am going to leave the snakes in the wild where they belong.
Not all snakes are dangerous...this burmese python as well as reticulated pythons and rock pythons are pythons that should never be kept as pets to irresponsible owners such as this one. he should have had a cage that locked. There are some that remain small and could never hurt a human let alone a cat. And those ones are the ones that can be kept as pets.
Don't let this video make up ur mind... it is propaganda... snakes make great pets as long as you make sure it is the right pet for you... check out my vids!
This is absolutely ridiculous! I thought Natgeo was above this kind of propaganda. It would be a daunting task for Twinkie (largest captive snake in the world, at Prehistoric Pets) to try to eat a 9-year old. Think about it: a 9-year old is much larger than a rabbit. The decapitation was just way too much. Yes, irresponsible keepers have to face the consequences, but this is shameless propaganda! If these animals were really that dangerous, would they have made the reenactment video?!?!?!?
WOW.... All I can say is what a bunch of propaganda!!! "The snake is going to make her its next meal..." Um... no... no way a 12 foot burm is capable of eating a human, let alone a 9 year old! Nat Geo needs to cut this show.... FOCUS ON THE GOOD... being bitten is a part of the hobby, it should be expected, not dramatized and shown to be satan rising from the pits of hell!!
AMEN. The more I read people's comments the more I realize exactly how ignorant they are and why they are stupid enough to donate millions of dollars to HSUS for caring for animals that they never spend the money on. They just don't get it and probably never will. Snakes go to humans and animals to seek warmth. Heck my snakes curl up and sleep with my cat on my bed and are best pals and have been for six years. No dead kitty, just good pals.
No kidding. People even on the educational channels seem to now be spitting on Steve Irwin's grave! I thought NG was above this but apparently I was wrong. I'm unsubscribed to their magazine. >:-(
@HuntsmanExotics Oh they're probably coming. Just wait, they'll probably show other animals attacks and a reality TV show where TV stars are sharing space with South American natives or some crap like that!
I have a suggestion for these people!!!! Everyone that has the time to watch these propaganda videos and actually believe this crap should unsubscribe to the channel and the magazine and stop watching it on T.,V. and subscribe to Reptile Magazine so they can get a proper perspective of facts on what snakes really are like.
so, blame the snake? because here we have an irresponsable pet owner. By the dramatization, it sure looked like the cage was broken or something. NOT THE SNAKES FAULT!
So when are the horse and dog attacks going to get their time in the spotlight? And why doesn't anyone mention the fact that many of these pythons are being threatened in their natural habitat? If it wasn't for the breeders, they wouldn't exist much longer.
THANK YOU!!!!! If drunks weren't out with guns shooting snakes in the wild and didn't go out of their way to kill them with vehicles because they are ignorant then snakes wouldn't be so aggressive in nature and it's their faults snakes are safer in captivity than they are living in their own natural environment. Snakes have a higher mortality rate living in captivity. You don't see people hunting down dogs and cats shooting them for fun. But, wait, yeah they do that too.
I totally agree with you Brian. It's pathetic that National Geographic has always sponsored these shows on their web site and on television showing the positive side of the hobby and now they are advertising and promoting the negative side of the hobby. Was it all for support of their channel or their promotions is a good question to ask oneself.
Yeah, this toally would disturb many viewers. Damn National Geograohic, don't they now that we are fighting a bill right now? And besides I don't think it works like that when a burmese or retic is actually constricting a human.
Wow, it's becoming so disturbing that the TV execs are contunuing this trend in programing. I can understand from some radical networks, but Natgeo should be held to a higher standard! So sad! Brian(Sbtv)
I have to agree with you there Brian. First the video is too graphic! that a snake gettingt beheaded, and showing it was pretty disturbing. and secondly this video is showing people not familiar with snakes that snakes are dangerous pets! I think National Geographic should put more effort in their videos to show that snakes can be a perfect pet when taken care of properly.
No one should buy any animal w/out research. The research was CLEARLY not done here. 1) They thought they had a burm when they had a retic (different level of caution). 2) The cage was COMPLETELY inadequate in terms of space & security.
1 in 25 homes own a reptile. Large pythons, anacondas, and boas represent 1/3 of sales. These animals are abundant, but less than 1 person/yr dies from them. Dogs, horses, etc kill more people/yr per animal, yet snakes are evil? Fear sells, right NatGeo?!
1 in 25 taken from American Pet Products Manufacturers Association and that number is even quoted by the quite evil, HSUS who hate reptile owners. 1/3 of sales is taken from USARK in a publication given to the government. Deaths stats are taken from REXANO. Look 'em up!
Well at least I got to see a really stupid dog food ad first. Now I know that pet snakes want to eat my family and to buy that kind of dog food because it will make my dog act crazy.
LOL Deviant when I first started watching the video given the time frame the first thing that came to mind was wonder how much of HSUS's fraudulent funding campaigns went to the production and editing of this video.
The enclosure the snake was kept in was an open invitation for a disaster. The enclosure was way too small to house a snake that size it should have been at least 6 ft long by 3 ft. The glass has dried glue along the edges all piled up which in itself could NOT contain a large snake, No water dish at all totally poor housing conditions and shows bad care and responsibility. Any snake would try to escape such gross conditions. The children are holding a Reticulated Python not a Burmese Python.
Even then, people entrap wild animals and think because they tame one, they can tame them all. Just look at the dude who almost got ate by that "show crocodile". If God put it in the wild, then let it stay in the wild.
I've had snakes for 46 years. I weigh 130 pounds and I own 2 (10 Ft.) Argentine Boas that weigh seventy pounds. The time worked with and quality of time someone spends with each snake has everything to do with it's trust bond and it's general temperament. I've been bit four times in 46 years if they were that mean and aggressive I doubt I would still be breathing or alive for that matter because a snake will always react instinctively and the owner is responsible to provide their needs.
This "new member of the family" at :42 and at :54 is not a Burmese python...that's a pic of a reticulated python.
So what was it, Nat Geo, a Burmese or a retic?
Neither of which could have eaten that girl BTW.
And, as usual, this story fails to mention the person at fault here, the irresponsible owner keeping a snake that size in an unsecured cage. There's no excuse for not having a lock on the snake's cage. No different than keeping a loaded gun laying around for a kid to pick up.
Hate to break it to you.... but your wrong. Dogs and cats actually saved people's lives, and if you don't believe me crack open a book about Animal Rescue Programs
I've seen pictures of people's faces nearly ripped off from a dog attack. I've seen pictures of people that interrupted a cat fight and ended up with multiple lacerations that had stitches. I'm a cat and dog lover, but they are not all nice and cozy and comfy to hug and call a good pet no more than some snakes might be.
Your pretty gullible if you believe even half those stories. It's entertainment. Look at the disclaimer when the show stars. Most of the stories are greatly exaggerated and even lies and they tell you that in the disclaimer by using big words the average person doesn't know the meaning of.
I got 5 herniated disk in my upper spine in 1998 from being rear ended by a truck. Was told after taken out with jaws of life and rushed to the Trauma Unit I would be in a wheel chair in 3 years forward. Had it not been for my love and drive to care for my snakes I would have stayed in bed on strong medication and would have become a vegetable. I owe them and their existence in my life more than words could possibly express.
They should distinguish between the different types of pythons. Not all pythons species grow to be monsters. There's a HUGE difference, when you're talking about a ball python or a reticulated python. 1 Starred simply because NatGeo should know better, especially when reptile owners are in the middle of fighting an ongoing battle with PETA an HSUS freaks over S373//HR2811. NatGeo just lost a bit of my respect.
Snakes have existed in our environment since the beginning of time and are by no means a new introduction in our society nor in the wild. They have been in our world longer than we have so why act like this is all new to everyone? Animal rights activist don't feel they should be out slithering around in the wild where they have always lived and they don't feel they belong in captivity Where do these people propose these animals should exist if neither existence is acceptable to them?
I think that activists want them to remain wild within the region in which they are naturally found but not to be introduced into an environment where they are not endemic because they harm the natural balance of the area.
So does pollution but you don't see the country and activist trying to ban environmental pollutants from manufacturing or factories. Our environment has sustained FAR more damage to it through the hands and lack of responsibility of the people that are always cutting corners and using sub-standard materials to build these factories and companies that all cause pollution and destroy the environment. You call smoke so thick you can't see skyscrapers a natural balance in our environment?
You have to understand that even though we love our snakes and we know how to care for them people that have never owned them or have terror attacks when they see one would see only the serious concerns with this issue because they don't know the animals if they've never owned them. It's a sad situation but this is what happens with irresponsible owners and there are some and it reflects on the people that are good, responsible owners.
Oh Iam aware of that :S It's really sad. Same goes with my pitbulls though people think there total man killers because if irresponsible ownership when mine hasnt bit anyone in the 10+ years Ive had him.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
The government needs to ban all dangerous pets, such as snakes, German shepherds, monkeys, and pit bulls. There's no reason civilians need to own these dangerous animals, when there's safer pets to own, like gold fish.
Buy yourself a gold fish. Some people like to own german shepherds, and when in the hands of a good owner a dog can be harmless. Although I do agree about the monkeys.
FUCK off you liberal! I love snakes! no snake ever tried to bite or attack me! ever! Idiots are what makes this snake how it was! read a book dumbass!
There's nothing wrong with keeping a snake like that, but it seems like that family was pretty irresponsible. Large snakes should only be kept by experienced owners and I doubt that guy knew what he was doing. Also, ANY snake needs a secure inclosure and they obviously failed to do that. Snakes can do a lot of weird things if they aren't taken care of properly, so the python may have been a bit mental after four years. No animal will do something like this without a good reason.
People aren't even supposed to have these kind of snakes. I lot of them just release the snakes in the wild, where they kill other animals. The snake was probably illegally imported. The people should of never gotten the snake. It shouldn't of had to die.
Very well stated and VERY factual. All snake owners know that if we get bit it's something that we did wrong or made a minor, careless judgment call on reading the snakes body language. A snake that is safely housed and has all it's needs provided on a constant schedule DOES NOT even try to come out of the enclosure and usually has to be prompted to do so. The owners are responsible for providing all of these needs. When they don't they have to accept responsibility for their lack of proper care.
They show a picture of the family pet-a reticulated python. Then they show a Burmese python escaping a poorly home made enclosure that was 1) too small, 2) had no lock.
The attack on the child was 100% the fault of the idiotic owner. It was no different than if he would have left a loaded gun on his table and his child shot someone with it.
But, because the general public had an irrational fear snakes, it's now the snake's fault. NOT!.
i would love to be squeezed like that!

The POSITIVE side of owning snakes for the intelligent name callers:Snakes don't cause allergies and don't carry Rabies, don't lick their own ass and then lick their owners in the face, don't chew up your furniture and defecate on your floors, don't have to be fed 2 or 3 times a day but once every week or two depending, don't have to go outdoors to use the bathroom two or three times a day, they don't copulate in the middle of a six lane highway and hold up the traffic.

Welp, on that note what about all the HUMANS running around shooting other people? What about humans that do drugs and get drunk and kill innocent people? Now, statistically how can any human consider a snake more of a threat in life to other people than they themselves are? Who is really the evil, Monsters in our societty?
1softkiss 2 years ago 2
It would take a snake of MYTHICAL proportions to swallow a human. Snakes don't generally waste time trying to kill something they can't eat.
Anyone think maybe this girl is lying about some facts? Maybe she got the snake out to cuddle in bed with her and somehow freaked the snake out. A jerky movement while dreaming? Who knows? Kids NEVER lie, right? Especially when caught in a bad situation!
Regardless, irresponsible ownership is at the core of this, not an evil, human eating snake!!! AHHHH!
DeviantConstrictors 2 years ago
She could possibly be lying, as she would have been 13 at the time of the attack and probably too large for a snake of that size to swallow. I agree that this is irrelevant, the fact remains that the snake got out proving either the stupidity or irresponsibility of the owners, or possibly both.

rebeldawg2169 2 years ago
You're entitled to your opinion but people that own snakes and have for many years understand their body mechanics and know their everyday habits. Snakes aren't aggressive creatures, they only defend their lives and they do not go out searching for people to eat putting it as clearly as I can. I wouldn't expect someone that knows nothing about snakes to understand their behavior. (Not meant offensively)
1softkiss 2 years ago
Yeah you take a great risk owning a big animal like this or anything else huge even owning a damn monkey can be dangerous these people weren't careful and were irresponsible by having a disfunctional tank that always falls into the hands of irresponsible pet owners I wish the on;y persons that could have snakes were people that are responsible. RESPONSIBLE
PS. And if you have small children in the house DDDDUUUUUUUUUUUUUHHHHHHHHH Its not safe bonehead
Godegypt27 2 years ago
you seem to be dancing around my question the snake was trying to feed on her
rebeldawg2169 2 years ago
The snake was NOT trying to eat that girl. That snake WOULD NOT have been looking for food unless the owners hadn't fed it in a year and if that was the case what happened would have been their responsibility, not the snakes because of their negligence.
1softkiss 2 years ago
For one if a snake approaches something with intentions of killing it to eat it, it will go for the head being the smallest part of anythings body. This snake started at the bottom and came up the girl, it never went for the head. Snakes can judge whether or not they can eat something based on size and her head being the smallest part of her body would have been the snakes target, not her feet or legs.
1softkiss 2 years ago

true the owner is at fault he should have had a better set up for this snake i agree but the snake was constricting this poor girl so does that not mean it was hungry and trying to feed on her plz educate me on this i will admit if im wrong
rebeldawg2169 2 years ago
A snake of that size could go for a year in captivity without eating. They can go all winter approximately six months and often do without eating during breeding season and they are in perfect health. Now, unless that guy hadn't fed that snake in over a year that snake would NOT have been out hunting for food it was looking for warmth. Snakes store their nutrients for winter and more or less hibernate. They are not vicious deprived starving creatures unless their owners NEVER feed them.

KROkrimpsonify202 2 years ago
dogs have been domestcated over hundreds of years sure there are cases of them biting but atleast they give warning and dont hunt you down and try to eat you while your asleep in the bed
rebeldawg2169 2 years ago
It's really difficult to educate people that are ignorant to facts. First of all a snake seeks warmth if it's enclosure is too cold. Many end up in people's beds seeking warmth I've even had a couple of my small Ball Pythons climb up onto my bed and get under the blanket with me if they are on my floor and get too cool. They don't hunt down people they try to avoid people generally. Why are you people blaming the snake? The owner wasn't housing it right so he was responsible, not the snake.
1softkiss 2 years ago
They display their own ignorance when they posted the video because it's not a Burmese Python that it shows the children holding and the enclosure itself??? Right even the worst of snake owners would never house their big snakes like that.
They tried to OVER emphasize how mean and vicious big snakes are and in the process made themselves look like total morons.

HuntsmanExotics 2 years ago 2
THANK YOU!!!!! If drunks weren't out with guns shooting snakes in the wild and didn't go out of their way to kill them with vehicles because they are ignorant then snakes wouldn't be so aggressive in nature and it's their faults snakes are safer in captivity than they are living in their own natural environment. Snakes have a higher mortality rate living in captivity. You don't see people hunting down dogs and cats shooting them for fun. But, wait, yeah they do that too.

DeviantConstrictors 2 years ago 2

bP112 2 years ago
1 in 25 taken from American Pet Products Manufacturers Association and that number is even quoted by the quite evil, HSUS who hate reptile owners. 1/3 of sales is taken from USARK in a publication given to the government. Deaths stats are taken from REXANO. Look 'em up!

1softkiss 2 years ago
@1softkiss
I think that activists want them to remain wild within the region in which they are naturally found but not to be introduced into an environment where they are not endemic because they harm the natural balance of the area.
stepaushi 2 years ago
So does pollution but you don't see the country and activist trying to ban environmental pollutants from manufacturing or factories. Our environment has sustained FAR more damage to it through the hands and lack of responsibility of the people that are always cutting corners and using sub-standard materials to build these factories and companies that all cause pollution and destroy the environment. You call smoke so thick you can't see skyscrapers a natural balance in our environment?

Using your logic, then the government needs to ban everything that is dangerous.
Can't eat chicken or eggs because of the danger of salmonella.

etc. etc. etc. ad nauseum.

ColubridKing 2 years ago 3
People aren't even supposed to have these kind of snakes. I lot of them just release the snakes in the wild, where they kill other animals. The snake was probably illegally imported. The people should of never gotten the snake. It shouldn't of had to die.
DinoMaster229 2 years ago
did you not hear it clearly say over 100, 000 burmese pythons have been imported legally. it is legal.
todo3000 2 years ago
Very well stated and VERY factual. All snake owners know that if we get bit it's something that we did wrong or made a minor, careless judgment call on reading the snakes body language. A snake that is safely housed and has all it's needs provided on a constant schedule DOES NOT even try to come out of the enclosure and usually has to be prompted to do so. The owners are responsible for providing all of these needs. When they don't they have to accept responsibility for their lack of proper care.
1softkiss 2 years ago
Factual? Did we even watch the same video?
They show a picture of the family pet-a reticulated python. Then they show a Burmese python escaping a poorly home made enclosure that was 1) too small, 2) had no lock.
The attack on the child was 100% the fault of the idiotic owner. It was no different than if he would have left a loaded gun on his table and his child shot someone with it.
But, because the general public had an irrational fear snakes, it's now the snake's fault. NOT!.
