Some of your fave movies could be remakes and you might not know about it, they've been around since the 1920's. The Maltese Falcon was a good example of a remake to a crappy 1931 movie and 1941's version was better
Impossible to match Brosnan's suave persona and Russo is leaps and bounds over the original...just one of those rare times where the remake beats the original.
Damn right, the original was sooo slow and this remake had better pacing and more modern style. It follows rule number 2 on my 8 rules of doing a remake and that rule is "If the original is terribly dated in setting or pacing and style", now some movies from the late 60's and early 70's are sooo slow they put you in a coma.
@Johnlindsey289 I agree but some people have a hard time separating nostalgia from reality...I do not. I can admire movies that are true classics , I am speaking black and white classics before I was born and dislike , dated movies that are more recent yet considered great by some.. I evaluate the movie and how it feels now not then. Some are timeless and true gems...others are not so lucky.
Number 3 on my rules for movie remakes is "The original isn't terribly well known or beloved". Let there be a special place reserved in hell for that person who tries to get a Casablanca remake produced for some movies should be off limits period. Films that are part of the fabric of cinematic history should be left alone as they have withstood time's test and can be enjoyed today such as Casablanca, Gone with the Wind, Citizen Kane, Godfather etc. but remake an obscure film
@Johnlindsey289 Sure there are some movies that beg to be remake...then again...I guess it would be hard to agree with everyone about which ones can and which ones cannot be remake.
Number 4 on my 8 rules of doing remakes is "The remake does inf act bring something new to the table while respecting the original" like for example The Thing, Cape Fear, King Kong, The Magnificent Seven, True Grit etc. all great remake examples as they brought something fresh to the story whether in concept or execution. A good example of a remake to an obscure movie is either 3:10 to Yuma or The Crazies.
Both versions of the Thomas Crown Affair are brilliant erotica. They are the peak of commercial film like the 48 & 64 'Killers'. Dunnaway and Newman are genuis and Rene Russo presents blowsy southern beauty better than anybody since Ava Gardiner. Piers Brosnan is not good enough, but alongside Russo in this movie anybody hotter would have been impossible, just as Reagans performance in the 64 killers was too hot
funny story about this movie, when i went to rent it from the DVD shop, i got home and put in the player and they gave me the old version of it when i wanted the newer version of it! :) lol

The only thing I disliked about this movie was how Catherine instantly suspected Thomas for the theft.
