  • Well, Ed we have our competencies :-)! You can write songs that moves a lot of people!!

  • i got confused about half way through the video....BNL rocks!!!!!

  • *insert drool here* GODDAMN he's gorgeous!! When we saw them in Hali 2 weeks ago, I said to my boyfriend when Ed came on stage "That's my future husband" LMFAO!! As for recording... meh... w/e works for ya bud!

  • Dude, whatever works for you is cool with us, just keep up the great work!!

  • I love the fact he uses a mac!

  • It's funny seeing the saw up there on the mantle that eventually get knocked over by the cat.

  • Ed...call me. I will come set you up, free of charge with a very simple recording process. Your method is .... holycrapcomplicated. I speak Canadian too, just for the record.

  • Hahhaaa It's strange to see such talented muso's creating extra complicated (albeit creative) ways of doing things that have been made much simpler. It goes to show - he really is creative in the truest sense of the word! Lol Ed!

  • Here's a weird thought - last year I saw a band I'd just heard about 17 times. Now I'm totally over them.

I've been listening to BNL for over 10 years now and I've NEVER seen them live. But <3

  • GarageBand accepts WAV files. Thanks for all the inspiration.

  • There is indeed a better way, and it's called Adobe Audition, my love. It would probably take less time to figure out how to use it than you take to convert a single track...

  • You should use Adobe Audition. No need to convert the file type each time, and it's great for mixing tracks.

  • agreed

he could make it so much easier on himself and work faster if he just used this program, it pretty much does everything you'll need.

i'm a windows guy myself, but I never have to convert THAT much for anything, maybe a .mov to a .avi or mpg, but thats it.

  • On the first day, Ed bought his computer, and he was happy. On the second day, Ed bought the elaborate recording software for his computer and he was pleased. On the third day, Ed bought a recorder, microphone and cables needed for his recorder and was happy. On the fourth day, Ed remembered that he still needed on cable that he did not have. He said " This is very tiring" and took a nap. On the fifth day, Ed decided this is getting old, and leased a studio!

  • Ed can you be more attractive? Freakin a.

  • This is great, because that is essentially what I would like to do, but I wasn't sure if it would work. Apparently it does! Thanks!

  • i bet u get tired easily

  • Holy smokes, Ed, at this rate it'll be decades before a new BNL album! ;-) Whatever turns your creative crank, pal, just do it. Thanks for sharing this scary peak into the artistic mind, whoa!

  • Sometimes the more complicated way is the easier way and even if it's not it's just more fun to explain.

  • Ha ha, that's how you do that?!?! Now if only I knew what you were talking about...

  • Wow - yea, that is crazy. Must kill the creative moment. You can easilly get a small ad/da interface for the computer, or even plug the mic into the computer itself (sound card will convert) and record to garage band without all that converting. More power to you though and thanks for all the great songs I've loved.

  • I SO LOVE ED! You rock dude.

  • best way. anyway. just great. love u for those videos.

    lmao

  • LOL! Thats awesome...whatever works for ya =))

  • Ed, if you were really low fi you'd use an old tape 4 track... ahh the good old days.

  • Hey Ed, if it works for you then it's fine.

By the way you've have the most beautiful eyes.

  • Connect your microphone to your Mac with an iMic from Griffin and then use Audacity to record.

  • I don´t know if that little recorder thingy will act as a preamp, but if it will, just send the signal through it instead of to it, and put it directly onto GarageBand, or whatever software you like. Or you could, if using a desktop like I do, use a live sound mixer like the one(s) you´ve been using for years, sending the signal from that to a line input, usually found on the back of the computer. I don´t think many laptops have line ins, but you can get an external one for cheap.

  • whatever rocks your boat, Ed!

cause it`ll sure rock mine later, when the album comes out!

  • Cool Beans....? ..!

  • how did John and Paul double their vox on Beatles records? someone told me they just resang their parts??

  • Whatever he's doing seems to work. Ed is awesome! Can't wait for the new album!

  • seems to have done you right so far!

  • Hey good news for the music world!

Your a nut though man thats gotta be stressing? Was probably more stressing figuring out the process ghaha.

I have one program that does it all.

    Sonic foundry/sound forge

Your program probably has better quality though.

    BNL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • great to see the process

  • Why not record a scratch onto a cassette tape, move that into a reel to reel, then process that to an actual record - sing along with that, recording with your Libby's soup can and some twine which is wired directly into into your computer and convert it to an MP3, sing along with THAT and then....er....

    Look a BUNNY!

  • LOL.

  • lmao.

as long as its a new album.. do whatcha gotta do, ed. <3

  • just get a small 2 or 4 track mixer - an RCA to 8th inch adapter and thats all you need to get it all into garageband. Its super simple.. even you can do it :D You rock Ed. No matter how you do it I'm sure it rocks.

  • Ed, your OCD tendencies are an inspiration to us all. :D

  • Either way Ed.. It works man!@

    LOL

    *****

  • small usb preamp the size of your hd player would record straight into garage band

  • lol, thats a long process

    dosnt it get tireing?

  • chicketty china the chinese chicken,

have a dumstick and our brain stops tickin'

watching x-files with no lights on

    we're dans la maison

I hope the smokey man's in this one

  • First, it's Smoking Man.

Second, why are you quoting this other than the fact that he wrote it?

  • Ha yes! more bnl!

  • Your description should now be converted into a song...just the way you presented it there. So record an instrumental riff, do what you said you did (Steps #1 through #23) and then we'll REALLY see how it's done!!

    haha, love it.

    Steph

  • You should check out Sony's Acid Pro (6 or 7)

My wife and I have used it for years and it's excellent and easy too! :)

  • I'll second that.

  • haha awesome.

  • These guys haven't made a video in a while

  • It will be perfect ANYWAY you do it!! ;)

    ~Kirsty~

  • Hahahhahahaahhaahaah.

    Try Audacity. It's so nice.

  • I just record directly to garageband / protools it works out pretty well

  • LOL! You're surrounded by engineers and people who know how to set it up for you and you never bother to ask them what interface to get?

Did you do this with a tape deck before there was a wave recorder? I know I did! hahahahahaaaaa

  • I think my head just exploded during the explanation, hee hee!

  • Ed, you can do whatever the hell you want, however the hell you want to do it. You don't have to fix it if it ain't broken!

  • WE MISS YOU !!

  • I laughed through the whole thing. I think you can record directly to Garage Band(vocals and guitar), then cut it up and sync it and edit there, then export it to iTunes.

  • Hey thats pretty cool! Even if there is an easier way, you mix it however you want. You always sound great either way!

  • Crackin' me up here... hey if you did it the easy way, there would be no challenge! Hey do what ya gotta do, I know I'm gonna love the music no matter how ridiculous the process is! :D

    ~Marie

  • you're missing a step!

after converting from a .wav file to .mp3 - you forgot to mention put it online and let all of us get a sneak peek at a song as it's being born!

  • Haha. Right on, Ed :P

I'm pretty sure you can convert WAV to MP3 in Garage Band, regardless. But hey, whatever works for you! iTunes may actually compress that file a bit, though I'm not sure. ^_^

    Keep it up, either way.

  • Why so complicated?Get a line6 TonePort or some other interface and record straight into GB or any other recording software.

Thanks for making me feel less low-tech man! Rock on!

  • Ed- no matter how you mix it...You are- always HI FI!

    or High- Five

    or HI 5 0

  • Maybe all those steps are needed for the creative process to flow properly. Just listen to the songs made so far; evidently it works for Ed.

  • And, further, Ed should never have to make his demos into a lossy format unless he wants to. Send me a message, Ed, and we can do a Screen Share between your Mac and mine and we'll work this out for ya! I often help my mom in Milwaukee (I'm in FL) the same way! :-) We talk over iChat and I show her how to fix her problems. One of the best features ever put in a computer, so of course iti's in a Mac! :-)

Um... not to say you're like my mom in techie-ness! :-)

  • I am positive you can record it directly into Garageband. THat's one of the primary reasons the software was made. Making music tracks easier to generate, serving as a mini Podcast studio, and getting BNL music to us more quickly.

  • I thought you could just import as WAV into GarageBand?

Anyway, it's pretty cool to see you rolling with consumer Apple stuff :)

  • Can't wait for your new stuff, Ed!

  • i can't wait for the new album!!!!

  • I'm almost positive that you can record it AS an mp3.

  • Bravo Ed. Bravo!
