I would be so so so so paranoid that there might be some small opening in my suit or mask that would let them in....I'd probably find it hard not to run like hell even if I was "sure" I was protected. You guys have balls of steel.

That nest was Below Ground, They Built their nest around some old tree roots, very typical. Insect including follow Guidelines when establishing pathways, [just like ants following crack in the sidewalk, or follow ing an electric line=Guidelines]

Ah ok. Jesus, Ive encountered single comb wasps nests with at the most 20 per nest, small homes, but that is a Wasp /Yellow Jacket Metro City! :-)
