It is usually clear, I think this may have been one of the cases where the baby passed his or her first bowel movement before delivery (the dark green/black looking poo can tinge the fluid colour) and that could be why they were in a hurry to deliver. The baby can get sick if it sits inside with the poo in the birth waters.

This is so it makes it easier to stitch it back. Besides, you'll be in too much pain from labor that I doubt this will be much of your concern. You need to take into account all of the time she was having contractions, dilating and pushing the baby's head down past her pubic bone, before you start saying "that doesn't look like hard work!"
