who could have known a month later that this fire would create huge flooding problems from the monsoon....feel really bad for that 12 year old girl and her family
The South Rim of the Grand Canyon can also be accessed via Hwy 180 along the west side of the San Francisco Peaks, so visitors can use that alternate route while Hwy 89 is shut down.
Thanks for the video--Those of us who love Flag but live in Tucson have been wanting to see some. It makes me sick to my stomach that part of my beloved Flagstaff wilderness burning.
It was very quick! The satellite view shows the first hint of smoke at 1PM. A half hour later it was raging, and by 4:15, the smoke plume had reached the four-corners.
damn, i was just up there around 12-3... at 12 it didnt look like anything was happening. but after i grabbed a bite to eat, the smoke coulds were huge. driving back to phoenix, i could still see the clouds for a very long time.
sort of a terrible beautie to it

@sunsetreptiles if they take the 64 they'll be fine, which is the main road to the grand canyon anyway.

Thanks for the kind thoughts. It seems like everyone here knows one or more families directly affected by the fire and who have had to be evacuated.
