  • listened to a lot of players of this piece....your playing is different in that you vary both the tempo AND volume thruout the piece....everybody else is constant speed and volume and they appear to be playing at the limit of their abilities.....you have something left which goes beyond the others ability to mechanically play the thing at the llimit of their skill.

  • Wow - -wonderful. Your tone and touch are fantastic.

  • listen to the original recording by barrios himself he flies!!!!!

  • Of course your interpretation is perfet, people is jelous..

  • very good!!! Williams played this much slower, but i think Barrios wanted it to be played fast.

  • this song its awesome!!

  • Very well played.

  • Is the normal speed of this allegro solemne....is almost like 120 in a metronome.

  • HELP!!! Does anybody knows a song like this kind of music called "romance" ???

  • @WmusiclifeforceV1

    u might mean "spanish romance"

  • jouer ça avec une guitare désaccordée!!!!!!!!!!!!! ça fait un peu mal aux oreilles!!

  • bien

  • musicalidade perfeita.

  • obviously a wonderfully talented guitarist re technique etc but im afraid this piece is played way too fast. Its one of the most beautiful pieces of guitar music ever written ,listen to how David Russell plays it ..

  • I agree with you. When can I find the david russell`s version ?

  • Hi there, David Russell recorded an entire cd with the music of Barrios, its wonderful.Get it online eg Amazon or ITUNES. just saw him here playing in Dublin in July he's a genuis

  • is not about being fast in this piece...is the body of the piece that is so so difficult..besided u gotta play it with so much feeling and stuff..so i say 5/5 man and u added some tremolo in some parts so that would be a 8/5 ...great!!

  • i really enjoyed, you're very good

  • if i could play this that fast i indeed would. Feels like a diffrent song at this tempo i like alot well done sir

  • Nossa!!!Essa mão é mecânica

  • well sometimes the momentum gives the feel

if you have a pre determined view that fast playing yields no feel then you wont feeling , simple as that

  • did he mess up at 1: 38

  • masterfully performed

  • I like the tempo.

  • wow its good but a incy winy bit to fast it is realy AMAZING THOUGH REALY AMAZING

  • THIS is what I think music should be all about. Whether it's classical guitar or deathcore, as crazy as that sounds, it should be about the feeling.

  • I think If I were Barrios I would be glad all these guitarist are playing my amazing composition!

I have heard Barrios himself play it on his recordings. I have read his biography and he would be so happy that his piece that he tried to present to Segovia stood the test of time. I think this version is great he is feeling the piece the way he wants in the moment. Let us not forget Music is Art not perfect Math.

  • Amazing. I would just like to know if the people who have found mistake on this piece can play better than him.

  • He plays very well.

Its not true that he doesnt keep the bpm. He plays the song all the time on the same speed.

Actually, Denis Azabagic doesnt keep the tempo in the second part of his interpretation of the Allegro....i dont know if does it becouse he wants to do...but he slows.

I think there are a lot of jealous pleople around here....and it is not a competition.

    This guitar player is excellent!!

  • nice but i think he too fast...

    keep the tempo....

  • He plays very well!

And its not true that he doesnt keep the bpm. The song is at the same speed all the time.

Actually Denis Azabagic plays the second part of the allegro slower....i dont know if he does it because he wants....but it is not at the same tempo of the rest of the song.

I think there are a lot of jealous people around here.

    This guitar player is excellent!!

  • its not an easy song but he messed up a lot and there aren't many dynamics. there are many performers better than this guy here on you tube like denis azabagic who won an international competition with this piece in his repertoire

  • I saw Manuel Barrueco plays this piece about twenty years ago. This is the best I've heard since...

  • You should see the denis azabagic interpretation .. sounds strong when is necessary, sounds loud when is necessary and sound with much more definition notes

  • he won a world competition for that. awesome.

  • bad interpretation .. you play too fast and sound like noise

  • I completely disagree. We are all entitled to our opinion of course so i respect your view but i would say that was one of the best performances i have seen.

  • well i think he plays a bit too fast....but i don't think that's the problem...

he keeps slowing down and speeding up...he's not really constant with the tempo of the song....so it loses the emotion when he does that...

that's what i think...even though someone's most likely gonna' say when he slows down it accentuates the emotion...but whatever....these kinda' thoughts...they really are only worth a penny...

  • i agree, for the song the speed is not necessarily the problem, but for the fact that at that speed, when he slows down, it throws off his interpretation, if he played it slower, then i slowing down for accent is fine, but not at this speed

    informate amigo! :)

  • Oh!!! excuse, amazing interpretation, Mr. you are a great musician!!! congratulations!!!!

  • eso va para "chicomusico"

  • I feel it was a pretty competent performance - it's not an easy piece. And I don't necessarily think it's a question of speed.

Listening to Barrios' original performance, and Williams', it's more to do with knowing which note or notes need to be emphasised in any given phrase.

Were Lee to give a little more attention to the dynamics (just to differentiate things), we'd be in for a REAL treat.

  • olaganustu. elinize saglik...

  • first of all, lets congungratulet him, he plays it very well, ans so fast, but the technique and the art of playing this piece its very slow, it Gives a nice a better sense.

  • this movement is played fast in contrast to the preceding two. i study this piece and it is played at allegro speed with solemn emotion. this is a nice interpretation.

  • first of all, lets congungratulet him, he plays it very well, ans so fast, but the technique and the art of playing this piece its very slow, it Gives a nice a better sense.

  • To those thinking it's too fast. This movement represents the hustle and bustle of the fast paced city after walking out of the serenity of the cathedral, which is represented with the second andante movement. My interepretation is that it should sort of hit you in the face.

  • I didn't know that about the subject matter of the song. Knowing that, I still prefer hearing it a bit slower, but your entitled to your interpretation as you are the one performing. And since I can't even come close to playing that piece, I won't say you are wrong in playing it at the faster speed, that would be silly.

    Well Done

  • It does represent that, but I don't think the tension should be lost. Especially at the ending. I picture the third movement as people entering, there being a mass, people getting communion, leaving and at the end of the day after all the hustle and bustle, its just the cathedral standing there alone as day ends. I would slow it down at the end and really accentuate the run up and then the last two chords.

  • very good..but i personnaly prefer the speed to be slow at some parts.but i like ur left hand fingering.very relax...

  • Tecnica perfecta, sentimiento 0

  • too fast=/

  • Those that can't...critique.

  • His ending is horrible

  • perfect!!!!

  • not really sloppy thats friggen amazing man!!!very impressive

  • pretty sloppy in parts but still decent

  • Most elegant left hand movements

  • i think it's too fast too.

mtharbison -> i'm working on it, and i'm planning on playing it (completely, all 3 pieces) at my exam. I'll try getting a decent video of it.

  • i must say, it is very well played, but without any emotions really.

  • I think if people are going to post negative comments like "too fast...out of tune..." then why don't you post a Video Response and show us how it's done. Zimmer is a fine guitarist and I'm willing to bet toast the majority of people leaving negative comments.

  • Well mtharbison, I wouldn't say it was a negative comment...a negative comment would be more like "I think the color of this shirt sucks" or...."I think his guitar sounds horrible"...those would be negative comments, and I would never say anything negative. I simply made observations.

  • I can play that piece slow or fast...when you've been playing for over 30 years...it's just a matter of deciding to play it at the speed desired. I just happen to think that that section would sound a bit better slower...but just a little slower. I do think he plays it faster than most people would.

  • I still don't see any video responses? Hmmm can we not play?

  • poor in technical/musical balance.

  • Technical feats are ok when you're in high school, and you've got an electric guitar, and you want to impress a girl...you play Van Halen's Eruption...ok, now everyone knows how old I am!!! I noticed a string is out of tune, and he was getting tired....could hear it in his playing...I've been playing classical guitar for 30 years now...taught myself classical when I was 12...started when I was 5.

  • Hey souellette22 with all your experience why don't you do a video and show Mr. Lee Zimmer how to do the Allegro from La Catedral . I'm sure he would appreciate seeing how a real pro does it. For that matter so would I.

  • Well ntrimm, I don't have the resources to post a video at this time, but try researching other interpretations of that piece...I'm sure you will find a video that shows it played a little more comfortably.

  • I think there's an audience for the speed thing, but when you mature as a classical guitarist, interpretation means a whole lot more..it's like, there will always be people who eat fast and never really get the most they can out of it. You've got to feel the music, and notes....everyone forgets how fast a guitarist plays, but never forgets how emotional a performance was.

  • wow. just.. WOW

  • nice

  • I would looove to see the sheet music for this!

  • Surely we can be curious as to how this movement sounds, played at this speed? Well, this is what it sounds like - and Mr Zimmer has the virtuosity to do it; with scarcely a single slip and fine dynamics. If it was good for his ego, as somebody suggested, I'd say he deserved it. If I could do that, I know it would be good for mine!

  • When noone else will listen, and you feel very emotional if you could turn to this piece and play it heavy hearted, soft handed and calm, and share that personal moment it would be considered 'a performance'. You are phenominal, but robotic.

  • You're a very talented player, but you're sacrificing how smooth you can play the piece for speed.

  • su are a good guitar player, i know how it feels the tension when you are playing live, so 5 stars

  • too fast!

  • I think that you have a Ramirez guitar or im wrong?

  • You are wrong. It's an Oshita.

  • @lzimmer how can u tell??

  • yes, too fast, i play myself this work and i find Denis Azabagic's version the best, search for his name and you'll see.

rojas' version is neat and the scenery was nice, but it is not as professional as Azabagic's.

  • I believe you're a good guitarplayer, but it sounds like you had to catch your train that day

  • I love Berta Rojas's video of this allegro. It's near perfect. Mine was one live performance and I was playing in the moment.

  • Its good, but i get the impresion its rushed... a few notes are also left out... its almost like ur playing it for your egos sake... play so it sounds good for yourself and it will show...

  • One of my best friend's dad. That's amazing Mr. Zimmer! Hey, remember i was Lee Zimmer for a day? I miss going to NAMM, i'll be back someday. You're the best guitar player, Alex was right about'cha.

    Amazing performance!

    Andrew

  • I think it´s too fast.

  • speed is good but is nothing without emotion i say it is to fast even though its an allegro

  • Wow, that was amazing...but it does kind of lose some its 'emotion', because of the speed (in my opinion)...

  • ur speed is totally amazing

  • espetacular !!!!

    sem comentarios

  • wow this is simply amazing! wow!

  • BRAVO...extremely well done!

  • Amazing, one of the greatest pieces for classical guitar ever written, and performed to near perfection. This is probably the best I've seen anyone play this piece before.

  • beautiful thanks !!

  • I love it!

Very good job man

  • Only faggots talk about "expression" and "emotion" Pffftt... shut the fuck up!

  • No expression, no emotion, way to fast. Are you a machine gun or a classical guitarist? Technique is otherwise amazing

  • This guy waked up every morning, goes to his mirror and startles himself with what a badass he is.

Dude, you should walk into bars, go right up to the most attractive female there, swing the guitar off your back and own her life. Do that one time for me.

  • It's very nice that you commented. Everyone has different ideas on any piece of music. That's what makes it great.

    LEE

  • sorry. My english sucks

  • yeh, I know that. I tried to say that is played very fast! just my point of view.

I love this version's contrast, but this "pieza" (from my point of view) sounds better if you play more slowly.

    Saludos from Argentina

    Nico

  • My copy says Allegro solemne, which I view as a religious celebration of the "event". The event happens in the second movement, Andante Religioso.

    LEE

  • That the way how to play Barrios!

  • Yes Zimmer. Yes Yes Yes !

  • Great! That's the way Barrios used to play it!

  • Great job, got goosebumps the last 5 seconds..

  • Awesome! Fantastic technique. This allegro is wery heavy for the left hand to play.

  • very nice interpretation. For us classical guitarists, we can appreciate the skill required to play this piece well. Well done again!

  • I just listened to John Williams version of the 3rd movement, and he plays it about 10 seconds faster. But so what! It does not matter how fast you play, it is how emotionally and passionately you play it. JW's version is very emotional, but he does it without taking away the technical aspect. Zimmer here does very well, and I like his rendition.

  • Yeah, that is correct in terms of what the music is supposed to represent. For reference, the Barrios recordings are about 20 clicks faster than Zimmer here.

  • To Coolman321: If you have ever heard the original recordings of Barrios playing this, you'd know why he plays this so fast... ;)

  • I never heard the original record recordings of Barrios berfore. But I do understand that this piece is sppose t represent Mr Barrios impression of the "huslte and Bustle" of the city as he leaves a church. The previous movements represent Bachs music somewhat with, ironically, parallel chords similar to the organ.

  • This is a very impressive technical performance. But where is the expression? More like a typewritter performance than an artistic performance.

  • Put a sack over his head and enjoy the genius.
