Hey, really like this music, these guys are in a lovely mellow groove here.. they're all excellent players.. love the drumming! For those who 'Don't Get Jazz', it all depends on if you're prepared to educate yourself to appreciate it.. it's an acquired taste. When you're a kid you love sweets but you grow up and maybe then you prefer savory flavors. Listen to Jazz and read about it and you learn to dig it.. reggae and pop are easy to 'Get', Jazz needs more effort, but it IS worth It! Px :))
@Grimmjow567 Hey, it's easy once you've 'got' it sure! I Agree with you, but I also had to make the effort to listen and learn.. you only have to read the comments below to see there are plenty of people who still don't 'get' jazz. I think this music by Frizzera and co is very accessible, it really rocks I Love it.. scroll down the page though and there's a guy saying there's no tune and the beat's disoriented! HE obviously never took the A-train! Still into sweeties eh! Px :))
@pixiemark7 I like the freedom in this, they just ride along with it. It's not as structured as pop or blues or rock (etc). That's why I'm liking this, the 4/4 beats and 4-chord songs are starting to sound boring. Is there anything else I'll need to get? If so where can I find it?
@Uzzie101 Hey Uzzie, great to hear you're liking this too. If you want to find more jazzy stuff to listen to,check out people like George Benson,Pat Metheny,Joe Pass,Django Reinhardt.. they're all guitarists so it depends what you're into hearing. Cruise round YT here and discover new music, that's what I do.. If you really want to find out about Jazz maybe read some books on the subject and learn about how it evolved and various styles and players.. so much to find out and enjoy..Have fun,Px :))
Magnifico! Bravissimo! I signed up to YouTube because of this piece! I just had to say how, after maybe 20 or 30 listens, I'm still finding nuances and inspiration in it. From a compositional viewpoint, I'd be particularly interested to know how it came together. There's so much forward motion here, it's like a ride on a roller coaster.
I am sure this is really great but I do not get jazz at all, sorry. I cannot hear a tune and the beat sounds distorted. I've tried but I think i'll just stick to me reggae..
i don't really listen to jazz, but damnn this shit is sick! the whole band i mean, i listen to metal/rock where every instrument is basically in sync, but here, everyones all over the place. yet it all flows together. i like the drummers groove at 1:35- 1:50 especially. these guys get down...
in my opinion the best way to find new notes/phrases/groupings is to think in your head "don't play that, don't play that" and just see what comes out. I heard shawn lane used that system as well as many others. Defenitly works even at my skill level which is mediocor at best. Also making games for improv like banning 1 string for the piece or making every last 4 notes of each phrase 1 note per string.. really a mind workout that pays off reletivly quickly.
@That70sShowRocker73 trust me, I know exactly what you're talking about. Not to mention the feeling of your trousers flapping in the wind of the speakers (I occasionally play some heavy stuff myself, only with bass or guitar). ;)
@lorenzofrizzera hi there, this is fantastic, suprised you havent got Alan Holdsworth on the influences, ah well the lists are usually exhaustive these days! When are you next playing in London? cheers Alex
Im Tom. I play guitar in a rock Trio. The problem is, in rock, most people have been playing the same old petatonic riffs for the last "à years! And so I would like to get some inspiration from jazz. I used to listen to classical, but Ive noticed that that is all pretty boxed in aswell. So I was asking, do you have to know theory to learn jazz? And could you suggest any good jazz bands/guitarists who play this sorta jazz. I also really love stuff where they experiment loads!
@litlemadguitarist Ciao Tom. Yes, I think you should know some music theory to play jazz. But music is much more than jazz and some of my preferred musicians didn't knew so much about theory (Hendrix, B.B King, ...). If you want to discover this specific kind of music you could listen to Pat Metheny, John Scofield, Mike Stern, Avishai Cohen. Have fun! :-)
@litlemadguitarist I going through the same. Here's how to start: Focus on chords, each chord is its own universe. Jazz players accent/harmonize/play over each chord change, while rock players tend to just blanket a whole song in its overall Key, regardless of what chord changes come underneath. Learn jazz chords, then learn arpeggios for each type of chord (minor 7 flat 5 or dominant 7 flat 9 chords for example), then research what scales can work over each type of chord.
@Bennyslot Learning arpeggios is the quickest way to play over chord changes, but since arpeggios are usually only 3-4 note box shapes, you have to experiment with scales to extend tonal possibilities. For example, learn a Dominant 7 chord, then learn the Dominant 7 arpeggio, then learn Mixolydian and Bebop scales. I am not trying to oversimplify jazz by any means, but I know where you're at, this is how I'm starting to get more "jazzy" in my own playing, I have opened up a ton of new tones
@Bennyslot Last thing is, you'll find that even the pro players of country, blues, fusion, metal, rockabilly, etc. all apply the jazz style of playing over each chord change to their styles and it always keeps things harmonic and more interesting.
@litlemadguitarist Jazz is based in key changes, while soloing. As you have been told to solo over jazz you will have to learn theory but you can adapt it to rock just adding to your licks chromatic licks. There are some books that you can learn some licks, that will give you a different aproach to your solos.
You could also listen to Bireli Lagrene, joe pass, lee ritenour, larry carlton, robert conti, just to add some other jazz guitar players.
@litlemadguitarist Try Return To Forever. There's some great stuff in there! Al Di Meola is an amazing guitarist! He plays a Paul Reed Smith. Also in Return To Forever is Chick Corea, Lenny White and Stanley Clarke. They're wonderful
WOW! I'm a metalhead, but seriously, this is GREAT! Jazz is the most technical music I ever heard (and I'm a metal drummer!) loved it and I'll keep hearing you guys.
@That70sShowRocker73 And the hardest part is that even with awesome technique, players can come up with something that's not jazz at all. For the core of jazz is the feeling, the soul, in it. And this is what true jazz musicians, like these guys, are made of: they play with their hearts, through their fingers and instruments.
@saheltaja for sure! thx for the explanation. Anyway this was awesome and I like listenning to Jazz cause it's deep, although even metal is deep for me but I don't know if you'll understand. Metal is a loud music but it has great melodic and it makes me feel good and feel a "shivering"! (you understand?) I like metal because of the music, not becaus of style (like many others......) you probably know what I mean when I talk about the shivering feeling that good music gives you!

amazing playing toatlly love it. Very exciting to watch and listen to. Thank you very much for posting would love to play like this one day. Which album is this track from? Is the music available is South Africa?

Great playing all around. Very nice blend of Metheny-type ideas (and tone) with other, more traditional elements. That's what I strive for in my own playing and recognize that it's a real challenge.
