Thanks for this. Our cable is dropping analog real soon so I need to get a card that will read digital cable, I think we have "QAM clear channel" stations? I just learned about that. A lot to know.
i have a dell dimension 2350, pentium 4 2.4 processor 1G of ram visiontek radion x1300 pci card with 256 ram on the card and i have easy cap usb and i'm having trouble getting god video with it, are there any suggestions for me?
damn all comments that have something to say about old computer is going like 10 years back DAMN!!! LOL but wins 98 lmao WinME? Win2000 well a least you guys didn't say win95 lol old computer is like winXp from 2003 to 2006 but anyhow Win7 Media center is the easiest to use
@gigafide i have a laptop running windows 7 x86 and a desktop windows 7 x64. i want to buy a usb version of video capture. what u recomend and can u use wmc to record from cable (comcast) and in what format does it record? cuz i later intent to burn to a dvd to play on home dvd players etc.
Extremely cool video thanks,I have an older laptop that came with a tv tuner can you do a video showing us how to hook up an external digital converter (antenna)to the tv tuner? Also how can I use this as a home/computer monitoring spy cam system, which is accessable from a cell phone or another computer.I would need an external web cam -my older lap top didnt come with a web cam so show how to use /install that in the video if possible.Just some ideas 4 u ,thanks
i have a windows 98 compter and it wont go on the internet....can i just restore it back to defult or something and if i can am i able to upgare it to win xp or 7
I have been doing the same thing for many years. It is very easy to do. Right now, my son has an old 1.8 GhZ Celeron running on WinXP. He uses it regularly as a PVR/DVR and it does an excellent job. Not only that, he can use the computer for other tasks at the same time.
A few weeks ago I couldn't believe my luck that I inherited a Gateway GT4010 PC with 2 GB of RAM, a 200 GB hard drive and a AMD 64-bit and Nvidia GeForce 6100 graphics card. Had a bad OS so I got it free. I installed windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit version and upgraded to 4 GB RAM, much as it can hold. And this guy has pretty much the same PC and is calling it an "old" computer, only suited to us 3/5th human peasants.
When Ever I Get To The Part Where The TV Tuner Is Installed And I Do The Channel Test It Does The Fuzz On One Then When Its About To Give Me Picture For Channel 2 It Gives Me A Blue screen With The Name Of The TV Tuners Drivers In The Problem, It's Basically Telling Me I Need Windows Media Center Edition Of XP.Should I Install It? Or Is There A Solution To My Problem For XP Professional?
well there is a few problems first unless you have a nice graphics card such as "top of the line HD graphics card which run $50-$700( reliable ) then the quality of the video will such so using an old computer needs to be removed and to be able to use a remote then your going to need more software and or if your computers old or new you will need more hard ware the remote hardware is expensive and the software can be expensive and the free versions arent all that great. so pros n cons put out

As long as the old computer meets the minimum requirements for Vista, like this one does, then there's no problem running Vista on an old system. All of this works on XP as well if the computer doesn't meet the minimum Vista requirements.
Thanks for this. Our cable is dropping analog real soon so I need to get a card that will read digital cable, I think we have "QAM clear channel" stations? I just learned about that. A lot to know.

That's not old computer.. an old computer runs win 98.... and that software doesnt run on old computer... you are running the hungry vista.
At 5:04 you can see it's a 2.6 gHz PC... that's not an old computer... maybe 1.5 or less could be old

I have to disagree at the rate hardware is evolving hardware that us close to 2 years of age is old.

As long as the old computer meets the minimum requirements for Vista, like this one does, then there's no problem running Vista on an old system. All of this works on XP as well if the computer doesn't meet the minimum Vista requirements.
