Bis mistake is to try and keep the Prius in electric mode, this causes it to use a lot of fuel recharging the battery from the engine - everyone who drives a Prius for the first time makes that mistake, let the car 'do it's thing' MPG will be better, my averige MPG for the last 5,000 miles in mine is 62mpg - and that's in an early 'less efficient' 2001 Prius.
Thanks to traffic law, the Porche won't go any faster, so buy a Prius! Prius Aircon is very efficient so leave it on ,it makes little difference to fual efficiency.
jeremy clarkson done a similar test a few years ago with the old prius on top gear, put it against a M3 Saloon, 10 laps around the track at normal speeds to see which car was was more efficient, and.........the M3 won. why look like a dick in a prius when a sports car can be fuel efficient if driven properly. but noones gonna drive a M3 or a porsche and worry about fuel consumption
@SukhySs The prius was throwen in to the corners, the BMY was driven as gently as possible at the same speed. going forward uses less energy then going sideways!

You guys below don't get it - they are trying to determine which car gets CLOSEST to its ADVERTISED FUEL CONSUMPTION, NOT the BEST FUEL MILEAGE. And the Prius is optimised for city driving, and unlike any straight petrol engined car, will do much worse on the highway.
I don't understand this test, you compared a japanese futuristic fuel saving car with an electric engine that gets 23093049304934mpg and doesn't even turn the gas engine on unless it needs it.... against a performance car.. to see which one gets better gas mileage? this is the dumbest comparison I have ever seen
This is stupid, it depends how you drive. The person driving the porsche was driving like with a light foot but the prius driver was driving rough so i dunno if this is right.
remember...its how you drive that affects fuel economy. watch top gears video, they have a prius going around a track with the throttle completely open, and a BMW m3 following it. the prius gets 17mpg, the m3 gets 19.
