Yes, Danny scares us all. He is the monster of all monsters. Don't even go there.....we'll NEVER, EVER come near him........none of us.......Ask Clapton, Beck, Page, Holdsworth, Carlos, doesn't mater.....whom ever you think is the best. They'll all tell you. Danny was, as Neil Young put it...."in a different building."
Thank you so much for posting this video, it was such a tragedy when he committed suicide I cannot for the life of me understand why he didn't got more famous and made a good fortune out of his playing. It just shows there are no justice in this world. And then other so called artists make so much money it's crazy. Danny Gatton, you gotta define your musical experience pre-gatton and post-gatton :) TeleMaster!!!
i love the fact that during some of these vids they haven't edited out the couple of mistakes he makes, like when the amp goes wrong, and he makes no bones about them!it shows he was human, superhuman maybe, but still human and capable of a mistake or two and thats what it's all about!fantastic, and i wouldn't mind making a couple of mistakes to play like he could!
Chet Atkins, Jerry Reed, Merle Travis, Glen Campbell, and many others were legends and may have achieved more fame but Mr. Gatton was equally as good if not better than anyone whoever picked a guitar.
I'd never heard of him till finding these videos on YouTube. He is the most amazing guitar talent I've encountered. Off to find some of his recordings....thanks for putting this up.
I agree, the guy seemed like a really cool person. Sorry I didn't learn his name until after his death, though I sure heard his music behind Roger Miller.
This is more than just an inspiring videoseries you uploaded here on youtube 4engle! i was searching for this a long time but couldn't get it anywhere. The old vhs i had, didn't work anymore and i recently restarted to play guitar again, so you are a wishfulfilling juwel for me now...thanx a billion times.
I wish I would have seen Danny G sooner. Thank you internet! I have been looking for a new spark in my playing and these 9 videos are certainly sparking it!
I watchen every single piece of these episodes...its something fantastic, I was looking for something like this...Danny must have been a wonderful person...shame I didnt know him earlier...Im more into blues rock music, but these things are so useful, I have to use em
Such a down to earth guy, yet obviously complicated. I always think of the question: what happens of you become the greatest guitar player in the world and nobody cares? He could play circles around the millionaires but was still playing clubs when he killed himself.
thanks for all these videos...I saw Danny with Robert Gordon in NYC at the now defunct Lone Star Cafe in the early 80s...one of my best concert memories!
Thats just silly right there... I love the end,,,,, A lot of guitarist use effects to achieve the showmanship he does through a clean amp. Think of all the tricks and tips he showed you in 9 videos given you so many different tones sounds without anything more than a delay pedal. how many of the so called greatest ever can do that. Most of who watch are guitarist and we have listen to and seen most tricks yet he still amazes.
@Thm46: Danny once sort of admitted he'd be hard-pressed to play heavy metal, and I never saw him play legit classical guitar - but I bet he could have faked it well. Other than that, the guy could play pretty much whatever he pleased. I miss you, Danny... RIP.
i saw this guy a long time ago on Austin City Limits and my jaw dropped. He did the beer bottle slide and then started playing with a dish rag on his fretting hand. This man was truly the real deal. R.I.P. Danny Gatton
you can,t help but be impressed when you see what this genius could do! he obliterated all boundaries and transcended and went beyond what normal guitarists would do, his guitar knowledge was unsurpassed period... from no2 gatton dude.
ha he tips it all in w/ a slide thing sounded as good if not better than anything
ive ever heard by all my masters duane lowell landreth ...
man cant help but get a little angry thinking he threw it all away
but that's balanced by just a humbling admiration for what the guy could do
truly t-r-u-l-y the best ive ever seen i only hope he has his peace
and thank him for what he left behind
t/y very much for this series of tubes breathtaking stuff start to finish

4engle. Thanks for posting this.
Just been Watching part 1-9.
Knew he was very skilled, but this was ??? WOOW.
Very inspiring.
Got my tele, half way through, sort of, had to. (Not that I'll ever reach as "high as his hips, or maybe knees" for that matter)
Can't tell much about a person, just watching a few video clips, but I'm left with the impression that he had a nice and warm personality, as well.
Those "small" comments, made me laugh quite a few times.

Thanks a lot for this video.
I believe it's the best starting point for any DG fan as he breaks down he's technique, and then go further to some of his video lessons.
Thanks a lot!
