ok, I know ASL very well. Its my 3rd language and I'm also hard of hearing. He is right. ASL is an actual language. You can go to college and take ASL. it does count as a language!! whatever he said he's completly right. no doubts about that.
if you see any hearing people insulting the deaf people that just means they're very ignorant.
cool! I used to be a hearing person until i developed Presbycusis at the age or 26 and now that i am 27, i also suffer from Tinnitus (ringing in the ears) I am looking to learn ASL but sadly, in Florida where i live no school or colleges teaches ASL...i am so bothered by it.
@staraction I live in Florida also. I'm 18, just graduated from highschool where I studied ASL for 2 years (ASL 4), was hearing until age 10, had a few accidents that dmged my hearing developed tinnitus, and then age 17 tinnitus worsened as well and finally hearing decreased to the point where I am now Hard of Hearing. I'm going to a college nearby to learn Interpret, hopefully with hearing aids I can hear well enough. There are many places in Florida to learn asl, if curious, please msg me.
Thank you for your detailed syntax and linguistics explanations. I have been working professionally as an interpreter for the past six years. I have some formal training but it is more accurate to say I've been "grass roots" trained. I appreciate gaining a deeper understanding of the language and culture. Thanks for your informative clips....
So, basically you're saying that "true ASL" has three parts: the language, the culture (which includes the people) and the history. 4 minutes 11 seconds to say that!?!
If all you are worried about is getting the message across, then all hearing people would have to do is write things down. This video is to help those trying to learn our language, not put them down, as you suggest.
DuDe you need open your mind not to put people down.. people who learn and try very to commuiate with other's .. as long they understand each other.. that the bottem line.. your ego gone way to far... relax take an vacation...
He is not putting people down, ASL is a language, and if you study ASL at a school, apart from the alphabet and numbers, these are the very first things that you learn. They are the basis of our language, and it would be impossible to form, or relay signs at all if you did not know these basic things.
Bravo! I tried very hard to get ASL as Foreign Language many years ago at Uof Utah ... after a while, success! I read in student newspaper "ASL officially foreign language at UofU" - woohoo! I graduated with ASL as foreign language (first hearie to do it)! Maybe if I had better communication (like in your vid) it could have been faster to convince those people .. anyway, hooray for all ASL teachers!

I've got a question, but please don't think I'm trying to be rude, or joking. I really am not.
Do your guys hands and arms ever get tired, from how fast, you sign?
Again If it seems like I'm mocking, I'm not I'm truly curious,

Probably, just how our vocal chords get tired, so does our hands and arms.

are you deaf? clearly you are quite fluent in ASL, but it doesn't look native/deaf school to me. (forgive me :) No insult implied)

Yup. I am Deaf. What else? :-) No, I never went to Deaf school. But went to Gallaudet Unviersity for a year. I immersed ASL since 4 years.

Yes, because it is for my vlog. I can make it more than 5 mins. I have to expand more on each point in different vlogs. Regards.
