  • Lucky buggers, my 91 strat plus and 88 fender "the twin" will have to do. But if use my Boss Parametric EQ with the twin I can actually get some pretty vintage sounding tone out of it.

  • Burgandy missed.

  • I hate the fake faces people make when they bend... posers

  • @Caveira138 It's called feeling not fake faces... Some people actually feel what they play and show it in their face expression. Why hate someone who show how they love what they do? Even if it's a simple thing as bending a string. have a nice day dude and don't hate!

  • @karlosman666 sorry thats probably some resentment from them trashing classic guitars like the Duosonic, Musicmaster and the Coronado.

  • @Caveira138 bastards! I think I look the other way this time. =)

  • @ 3:58 I thought he was about to say "apeshit."

  • What is this excerpt from?

  • very nice !! no better sound than a clean reverbed strat

  • 2:34, I love that comment

  • spettacolare !

  • I'd love to hear about gibson's from the same period, that would be ausome.

  • also what is this obsession with so-called 'vintage' electric guitars? In fact the whole notion that there is a vintage electric guitar is rediculous. It is one of the youngest instruments in the western world and is barely developed, unlike the grand piano for example. Sorry to be hostile but you really need to grow up a bit and see the instrument in the context of the wider world.

  • @Uberloinvongenchler It's because the older fenders were handmade back in the 60s. And they actually cost about $2000 back then (only $257 adjusted to 1960 inflation). Some play like complete dogs and others play very well. Many people like them because the wood is old and it sounds better than some guitars, but I'd rather have an old hunk of maple or something cut instead of paying a five figure price. I agree though, they only got expensive near the 80s or so.

  • @Uberloinvongenchler

Thanks for the lecture. But vintage is a relative concept and plenty of things from the 20th century can rightly be considered vintage -- cars, clothing, furniture, photographic gear...you name it. It's hard to understand why this is upsetting to you.

  • you can't say 'more unique'...and why are these guys bumming these guitars? there's a hell of a lot you can't do an a strat like play comfortably around the double octave...

  • The thing is CARL could make a fender 15G sound awesome, he rocks at guitar period, I have been playing 20 years, and still look up to him

  • You COULD get all this fancy and expensive shit. OR you could just play.

  • This guy is Ryan Giggs ?

  • r.i.p Ryan Dunn

  • I'm glad I stumbled onto these videos. very informative and I love all the vintage cool gear. you fellas rip a mean tone tweek on the strings too....good work.....keep it up.

  • He couldn't be more true about the whole single coil thing. Single coils just give you the dynamics, and add so much flavour and character to your playing... Nothing comes close. Fender Strat for life.

  • @pacrat90 thats very true...however..with that being said the blacktop strat is pretty sweet also...for a more "heavy sound"..but still retaining that stratty quality...which to me is a singing bluesy quality...just my 2 cents

  • Really? The dude with the sonic blue '63 strat is holding pretty much the greatest era and color strat ever and he says "but i want this ugly one over here, though".

  • 'You get the speakers reacting with the tubes' a bit like a head and speaker cab really; separation came in when amps were getting loud and vibration was becoming a problem. Combos are more portable; I would suggest that those are two sensible explanations to be going on with.

  • Damn these guys go for details!!

I just need 6 strings and an amp!!

  • I like these vintage lessons but if you can only sound good on 60s fender guitars and amps then you dont know how to play.

"Today" fender gear does same the trick. Its all in your head.

  • @pedrogoldfinger ....I beg to differ, not to split hairs but there is a reason players like Clapton, SRV, Duane Allman, Johnny Winter, etc., etc., recorded with these BF models like the Twin, Vibroverb/lux/champ, Deluxe. They are very transparent and if you aren't a good player these amps will reveal your inadequacies. The next chance you get play them side by side I think you will see what I mean.....and I'm talking about "original" BlackFace amps, not one somebody has molested or "improved".

  • @55slice Its a conversation I've had many times with shop people. I personally don't believe there is a general "best sounding amp" because it all depends on how you play it. What works for you might not work for me and the other way around. I play a mexican! strat with '54 reissues trough a Twin Blackface reissue cranked all the way up and believe me, any inadequacies are well exposed. I know it sounds different from old models, but it really works. For me 60s gear is not "needed" to sound good

  • @pedrogoldfinger ...true enough, one size doesn't fit all and you're right if you can play well you should sound good on just about anything. I'm just partial to the older stuff I guess...and that can be said for the vintage Vox AC30's, some of the boutique Crate VC's, and the Orange and Peavey amps....for volumn and tone live those old Class A amps are hard to beat as well...The old "Rivera" series Fenders are well worth the listen as well.

  • 5:07 - 5:10 just heaven!!!!

  • a douche is a shower!! you stupid shower bags

  • If Yngwie is a douche, then please make me a vagina!!

A "Soldier without faith" is doomed!

  • I liked the guy on left (his playing and tone ofc ; ) better

  • @WckrM Lol are you retarded?

  • @WTig3r

    Maybe

  • do we really need a lesson that shows us 60s strats are awesome??

  • That guy knew his stuff. Skill like that is getting rarer and rarer.

  • Stratocasters 4ever !! Oh, and Fender Acoustasonic Telecasters rule too!

  • @smkonwater23 no they don't

  • All the videos I see of them, the guy on the right always has to 1-up the guy on the left playability wise...it's funny haha.

  • @v0odoochild001 The guy on the right doesnt have to one up him, he's just a way better player. You should look his stuff up, Carl Verheyan, he's great.

  • I have a twin reverb 1966 blackface. The high's is so fucking intense and when i turn down the treble a loose tone. Help?

  • @SkateTS808 New speaker, beam blocker or turnin' down tone on guitar a bit

  • @jeTTa002 no i have great speakers Jensen original made in Chicago

  • @SkateTS808 sounds like youve got a capacitor or resistor or both that needs to be replaced, that would cause going from icepick unregulated trebles to squooshy crappola no treble and nothing in-between. Take in for a service the 50 to 300 bucks in a tuneup from a good amp tech is necessary from time to time and worth it.

  • hahahahaha.. " I want this".. then it ends lol

  • is the fender twin considered something of a holy grail? I've noticed that fender twin amps get the most youtube hits (as far as amps go).

  • Comment removed

  • @REALCougarsRmales Good question. I don't think so (but that's my opinion) I've got a '71 Fender Twin that looks and plays like the day it was made and I can't even get $600 for it on Craigs list.

  • Whoever these dudes are, or work for. They are awesome. I'm subscribing.

  • Faantastic...! ;))

  • The first guy seems like Ryan Gigs futeball player of the Man United xD

  • it's kind of funny that carl says you get something from the combo amps, considering that there's a whole nother group of people who say that you lose something with combos...

  • Did he say he would take it in the Brown?

  • Carl is a top session player in Los Angeles and a member of the band Super Tramp. . Just thought I would mention. The guy is amazing.

  • One word. AMAZING.

  • can sombody please tell me what are the differences between and old twin reverb and the reissue ones?

  • everything. Ha not really but there were variations in the old ones. Also a lot of vintage ones are no longer completely functional without a tube or speaker change. Nowadays they do there best but they aren't exactly the same

  • @rockboy8812

    Their Age.

  • Had a Super Reverb in Germany in the early 1980s . It had the 4x10 inch speakers ,man it was great! Wish I had her back!

  • I prefer strats, but single coils and humbuckers can both sound great, and both have their own unique, great sounds.

  • verheyen blows that other guy away

  • @guithero11 in my opinion the first riff the "other guy" played sounded eons better than anything carl verheyen played... (emphasis on _sounded_, and not "carl has moar shred skills")

  • Peter Green played a les paul and he was the tone master.. BB KING words. Page was known for his 59 les paul also Duane Allmans solo work on Blind Willie McTell cover Statesboro Blues was probably the greatist bottle neck solo ever and i do believe that was done on a les pau,l the most famous era of his playing featured him rocking sunburst and Goldtop Les Pauls, Dickey Betts also. Billy Gibbons 59' les paul player one of the best! These are all i'd say huge influential players!

  • For me a clean amp and pedals infront of it is the way to go. None of the effects loop business.

  • @bingefeller.... I agree, but i rather put a pedal such as delay or EQ in the loop of and amp rather then straight in. Ive try'd it on my super, and it just adds unwonted noise

  • Oh well, whatever works, eh man?

  • I agree!

  • I do most of mine through the front too (played with many cobinations over the years). I use a noise gate and a volume pedal in my loop, everything else in the front. I don't use overdrive from an amp much. To me only Marshalls, new hybrid Fenders and EVH's amp have good distortion/overdrive.

  • that guy looks like the bassist from green day!

  • yes , its his TWIN , HAHAHAHAHa got it? like the amp? HAHAHAHAHAH.

    omg im so alone.

  • lol

  • @Lemming16 LMAOSHMSFOTFAIDMT

  • @BassDude50000 mike dirnt

  • once again im here and there is arguing on a perfectly fine demo. put a hot rod 62 strat through it or a vintage 62 strat and that puppy would sound like sex.

  • some guys (like you) just can not hear the tone.

  • well, it's not worth fighting over, but I will say this. I have both Strat and a HB LP style and I like em both a lot. I do find myself playing the Strat a lot more because I enjoy the tone a lot more

  • your dumb, really dumb.who was that really famous gibson player? he was in a band with robert plant, oh yeah jimmy page. he used pauls live for the output level but in the studio and on most of his solos he used teles.strats.danelectro lipsticks. so pretty much you contradict yourself and say that 2 of the most influential players in history plus page, srv, all played strats. who didnt play a strat that created amazing tone, bb king with his hollowbody, garcia sg/custom stuff. santana-sg

  • A gorgeous looking piece....mmmmm.

  • the highway one is a great strat. personally i prefer the classic player 60s

  • the highway one y way worst than 90's mexico strat I think .......

    I DON'T LIKE THOSE SERIES

(I got a 90's mex and a lone star strat)

  • sounds amazing

  • the highway one sucks balls!

  • and so does your MOM! still doesnt change my mind i still and aways will say the 2007 sss highway ones sound better.

and heres some FACTS for ya BluesThor.

the 2007 highway one sss strats are one of the most sought after strats WHY? because of its tone versatility and old school strat feel. these are FACTS! not some BULLSHIT EMPTY OPINIONS.

  • the feel of the guitar could NEVER match the original strats fro the 60' and you know that! i have played the and they has and "square" feeling to it.. and the 60' reissues and stuff has that smooth feelin'.. thats my opinion..

  • so does your mom, lololololololol.

  • this sound is gorgeous

  • I wonder why when some people are intimidated by another person's talent, they call that person a douche bag.

  • Carl is a first-call session guitarist. You've heard him many times on albums, tv shows etc.

  • is that the guy from green day?? lol

  • omg no!

  • No, cause he's not playing power chords

  • Ah, don't use pedals there, the natural character of those amps are unmatched! The pedal seems to take that away.

  • he isnt douchy. he is expressive, i mean its funny how his attitude is similar to srv, that guy was no douche he just knew his shit. now a douche would be yngwie that guy is a douche

  • i think you are all douches. what's it to ya?

  • There's the point!

  • amazing player-his profile looks like the green day bassist in my opinion..

hopefully getting this amp soon :)

  • Yeah he's such a twat ... killer player that knows gear better than most of us will ever dream of ... how exactly does this make him douchy ? ... I guess well spoken polite musicians are morons.

  • well thats just personal opinion. personally i think a strat and a twin reverb is the best guitar sounds you will ever get.

  • @JayLacelle anything thru a twin reverb will sound great indeed

  • So they trash Gibsons in all their other videos? No- they don't. Thanks for showing your ignorance. They seem to like ALL nice guitars just fine

  • the only thing i hate about hteir videos is the fact that they always use the whammy bar. its like let the sound ring people, its a beautiful strat and a beautiful amp. aside from that amazing videos. good guitar players.

  • is dave playing through a vibroverb?

  • I think the guy on the left is playing an original Twin Reverb from the 60s. The ones you can buy now are a reissue of the '65 model (similar, but different colour).

Someone correct me if I'm wrong...

  • I can't believe how mint everything is after all these years! Everything they are showing is in perfect condition!

  • My only complaint about strats is that they're too harsh. My perfect match, is a Dean Palomino, with those real hot p90's, and that hollowbody sustain, but thats just me, great demo.

  • When Strats sound harsh it is because pickups are too high to strings or some of them really need the bridge to float. Try those things out, it will help.

  • k thanks

  • True. You clearly know what you are talking about.

  • Thanks. Yeah I love working on guitars and making them sound the best they can. I have found with strats that pickups, especially single coils, have to be the proper distance from the strings. And also making the bridge a floating brodge can help if it sounds too harsh.

  • Not all strats and bridge need that. I had the two piviot style on my Strat and in order for it to sound great it needed to float. I now have a six screw system and having it flat doesn't make it sound harsh, but rather a little more tight. Floating bridges are nice, I like to keep my flat though so I can tune down without problems.

  • It's all how the guitar is set up.

  • Haha "This is burgundy mist, which is just a gorgeous looking piece"

  • wat was the first song he played before he put the trem on?

  • Doobie Brothers - Listen To The Music

  • my lord...that inca silver is soooo beautiful.

  • 5 stars for you

  • I like the silverfaced Twins of the 70's more, but maybe I'm just weird.

  • I prefer maple over rosewood.

There's something about rosewood that repulses me.

  • Same here. My Strat has a rosewood neck and it's pretty nice, but the Mapple neck on my Telecaster gets me every time.

  • test

  • awesome video. while we're on the discussion of strings, i will say that most or all strats sound MUCH better with heavier strings. I never go below 11's anymore after i heard the difference

  • Agreed, but I love my bends, so I use Slinky Tops, Heavy Bottoms. I never found the G, B, and E strings to be all that much better for tone than those from the tens.

  • the guy in the left is very similar to Ryan Giggs(Man U soccer player)

  • Who is the guy on the left?

  • his name is dave hunter

  • Hey Fellas, I'm always restling with which string manufacturers sound the most resonant when playing clean. Do you have a preference?

  • Ernie Ball strings. nothin touches them. preferably the 9 Gauge hybrid slinky pack.

  • The brand of string really is such a personal preference thing, you probably should just trust your own ears. But if your fingers are up to it, try using heavier gauge strings, eg 11 on top, although the guitar set up might need tweaking.

  • I've got earne ball 11s. Check Taksins cover of rape me for that sound

  • Personally I use Nine-Gauge GHS Boomers, but a good set of Ernie Ball slinky's doesn't hurt either.

  • I've used alot of different strings, cheapest to most expensive i could find, and Ernie Balls just fell better to me and resonate great even will you're not plugged in.

  • I want this!! ahhaa!

  • perrrfecct blues tone

  • strats are the best guitar ever! end of conversation.

  • no, benedetto guitars are the best ever. if you ever get one please let me play it! :)

  • Guys thanks so much, It's an awesome info!

  • i find stratocasters to be so thin sounding. anyone else think that?

  • Certainly not Jimi Hendrix, Eric Clapton, Stevie Ray Vaughan, Robert Cray, Buddy Guy, and Pete Townshend. They liked them ok, but they would've sounded great with any guitar. It ain't the guitar man, it's the head, the hands, and the heart. The Fender Stratocaster is the best guitar that has ever been made, and the 50s and 60s Strats are specifically the best of the best.

  • definetly the most iconic guitar. They just don't work for me. I much prefer guitars like the fender coronado and epiphone riviera with depth and presence. i'm sure they're not a strat player's cup of tea being ''cumbersome'' and whatnot. I do love fender amps though. tweed and blackface but i have to say that the strat sounds alot juicier thru the tweed amps.

  • but also keep in mind that Hendrix and SRV used the shittiest cables they could find - SRV used coiled radio shack cables - check out Cesar Diaz's interview on tonequest. why? to cut the brutal high end frequencies - which is what I HATE about strats (even though I love strats) : ) they also had their amps modded by experts to get more meat and less ice pick. what makes me nuts about strats is how easy it is to get that annoying thin "clicking" sound when you pluck. shitty amps I guess

  • I agree and disagree, thefew said it best its not in the guitar its in the player. Personally strats dont work for me but I cant argue with the greats who used strats. You cant say any guitar is the 'best' Guitars are just tools. Like Victor Wooten says I dont play bass I play music. I think the music is the most important not the guitar. Use whatever works for you man.

  • lol. i guess u went walking into that.

when i look at the other guys comment, to me a strats a strat. im not into vintage. more performance. most important. and yea it just depends what your playing through. i can get some amazing tones.

i guess it just depends what your into! u reali dont get many coronado guitars any more. dont like them to b honest. im not a les paul man either. meh... every guitar player is looking for a different tone.

  • That's true. It would be nice if fender re-issued them (coronado). just for a little while.

  • YEAH!! I am part of the anti strat crew. If you think that then get a telecaster or a jagstang. They are thicker.

  • yay! we have a crew lol i've had a tele and a jaguar but i much prefer semi-acoustics. I'm thinking of getting a '52 vintage hot rod tele though. The one with the mini HB in the neck.

  • I hate strats with Rosewood necks, but Maple necks, come on man... *Drools*

  • i have to agree with you there

  • why?:D

  • I've only used Rosewood on my HB guitars until i got my Strat ('08 MIA standard) which is Maple and wow what a differnece, the playability is phenomenal. Mine has a great gloss on the neck so it looks slightly darker, beautiful.

  • I agree. They're just so special.

  • i do!!!!!!! thats why i put two active emg humbuckers on mine. fucking sweet, i play metal to soft jazz...hahahha big difference but it works.

  • here's the thing with strats - I find that if u can manage to get a great tone out of 'em then u get a really serious kickass tone that rules. but its hard to get a great tone without high end harshness. what I have found is that the speakers and tubes (bascially the amp) are wayy more important - maybe 70% of tone and the rest is the guitar - mostly pickups. try playing a squier strat through a great amp vs a top of the line strat through a POS amp - you'll see how important the amp is

  • i retract my previous statement to some extent. I have played wonderful strats and i have played crappy ones. More crappy than wonderful. Sometimes, you just need a strat. I'd like a 60s pink one with aged plastic, gone yellow from cigarette smoke :D

  • great amp, great playing.!

  • What OD pedal did you use 3:35?

  • *at

  • thats a route 66, basically a tubescreamer with an optional bass boost.

  • i got a usa 70's strat that is the most beautiful guitar ever. i also got a 71 fender twin, which is the most beautiful amp ever. the two together would make a grown man cry. i love them both and count myself very lucky.

    fender for life!

  • i know its harder to dial in your tone on single coils, but man its worth it when you get it. I'll spend up t a half hour on each pick up to get it just the right height and angle.but the tone is awesome.i use a '74 twin reverb that has been gone thru inside and out and has been reversed to the blackfaced specs.great tone, even from my MIM strat

  • There a lot of history and awesome sounds together on those Beasts . . .

  • whats the name of the first song, he plays?

  • i cant get pinch harmonics when I combine 2 single coils.

    Not enough noise.

  • gah

    stop comparing brands!

nothing is better than the other,

    they're different in many ways!
